  • Geological Considerations in Dams Failure Teodora Barbuntoiu A
Geotechnical Hazards | Geological Considerations in Dams Failure Teodora Barbuntoiu A Thesis in the Field of GeoEngineering For the Degree of Bachelor of Applied Earth Science Supervisors: Dr.Ir. W. Broere Dr.Ir. D.J.M. Ngan-Tillard Delft University of Technology July 2019 Teodora Barbuntoiu | Geological considerations in dams failure | AESB3400 Bachelor Thesis Abstract Dams and reservoirs pose safety concerns to society worldwide. In case of a disaster, the water impounded in the reservoir escapes and destroys everything in its path. Reasons for failure range from geology, hydrology and seismicity, to design problems, lack of maintenance and poor field investigation. Prior cases show that various dams gave away mainly due to geological causes, so there is a particular interest to see how the local terrain features could influence the longevity of the structure. Three historical case studies are discussed in order to emphasize the impact of geology regarding dam failure. The Saint Francis Dam is a prime example of poor site investigation, where the lack of knowledge on the foundation rock led to the rupture of the gravity dam. The Malpasset Dam gave away predominantly due to underestimated effects of the uplift, nevertheless, the geologists were unaware of an active fault system and the mechanical properties of the rock mass. The Baldwin Hills Reservoir comes with a more thorough site investigation, yet still, due to earth movements, the water from the reservoir infiltrated through the embankment. Therefore, geological features at the site need to be included in the design options of the dam in order to ensure a safe, feasible and economical project.

  • Play Superenalotto Online
Play SuperEnaLotto Online The history of SuperEnaLotto All the way back in the 1950’s, a lottery named “EnaLotto” started in Italy. A few decades later, lottery organisers SISAL rebranded it to SuperEnaLotto – the lottery we know and love today. All the way until 2009, SuperEnaLotto didn’t have it’s own winning numbers. Its winning digits were taken from the first winning numbers of regional lottery draws held by Lottomatica in 7 different Italian cities: Bari Florence Milan Naples Palermo Rome Venice (for the bonus “Jolly” number) From 2009 onwards, its winning numbers were selected in an independently held single draw. How SuperEnaLotto works To become a SuperEnaLotto jackpot winner, you need to match the 6 lucky numbers that are drawn. Players choose 6 numbers out of a possible 90. A bonus ball, called the Jolly, is randomly chosen during the draw. The Jolly number allows those who matched 5 balls an extra chance of taking home a cash prize. SuperEnaLotto rollovers and giant jackpots SuperEnaLotto is one of the lotteries that does not have a cap on their jackpots. That means there’s no limit to the amount you can win with this Italian lottery! The biggest SuperEnaLotto jackpot ever won was an impressive €177.8 million in 2010. While it was won by one ticket, it was part of a lotto syndicate of 70 lucky players. How to play? Choose 6 numbers out of a possible 90 A bonus ball, called the Jolly, is randomly chosen during the draw. The Jolly number allows those who matched 5 balls an extra chance of taking home a cash prize When to Play? SuperEnaLotto draws three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 19:30 (CET).

But with a recent spike in the price of road salt and a shrinking salt supply, that process may take longer than usual. “The road conditions aren’t going to clear up as quickly,” said Quincy Combs of the Charleston Street Department. “We’ve really had to conserve (salt).” Before last year’s snow sea- son, one ton of road salt cost $49, Combs said. At the beginning of this season, that price had climbed to $90.50 per ton and is now near $168 per ton. To reduce salt use, Combs said the city is salting only targeted streets and intersections.
