Salutations unto the Shire of Rosenfeld!

Welcome to Mistress Juliana who begins her tenure as Rosenfeld’s Chronicler. I have no doubt The Thorny Truth is in capable hands and can expect good things! Remember…the newsletter is only as good as its content so please feel free to contribute!

Rosenfeld made a great showing at King’s Round Table with nine in attendance. For those who may not be aware, King’s Round Table is an administrative meeting where officers take required warranting classes. It also provides an opportunity for those interested in serving in an office to sit in on various meetings and get a feel for what those offices entail. I recommend this “event” highly. Thank you for those in attendance and for those serving as officers. You are greatly appreciated!

We will meet for Officers and Populace as scheduled on Sunday, February 13th at the Genecov Room in Tyler. If you are an officer, please email me if you will not be able to attend. For those traveling to Kingdom Arts & Sciences, it is my hope you have a safe journey and perhaps return in time to join us as we will look forward to news of grand works at the event.

Several events are on the horizon that may interest our populace:

Kingdom Arts & Sciences February 12th (Bjornsborg) Gulf War – 20th Anniversary March 11-20 (Lumberton, MS) Loch Guardian/Defenders of the Rose May 6-8 (Loch Soilleir) Coronation May 13-15 (TBD) Queen’s Champion May 20-22 (TBD) Steppes Warlord May 27-29 (Steppes) Fiber Day (unofficial event)* July 23rd (Rosenfeld) Central Region Academy of the Rapier August 19-21 (Rosenfeld) Three Kings: Tournament of the Cross November 4-6 (Rosenfeld)

Of course, there are many more events on the Kingdom calendar which may interest you so I would encourage you visit the Kingdom Calendar page on the Ansteorran site or check your Black Star for more information. (*Fiber Day is an unofficial event being coordinated by Mistress Rhiannon and HE Radegund.)

On a side note, I welcome the populace of Rosenfeld to post (to the list) when you will be traveling to events. Perhaps we can coordinate someone bringing a pop-up or one of the larger 10x20s to take advantage of an opportunity for fellowship.

Until next we meet,

Julia

From the Exchequer

Greeting unto Rosenfeld!

The Exchequers office now has an ER Deputy. Many thanks to Mistress Rhiannon for agreeing to take this important position. Remember to bring your check advances, requests and receipts as necessary to get any funds needed.

I am usually at the monthly officers and populace meeting and am going to try to attend the fighter practices as well so you can catch me then.

In service,

Sarah

From the Chronicler

To the good and gracious people of the Shire of Rosenfeld does Juliana Avenel, chronicler, send greetings and wishes for all good health.

I want to thank everyone for the warm wishes and support as I begin serving as your chronicler. Rosenfeld is a creative, energetic group, and I’m excited to be a part of it. FinThorny Truth is a beautiful publication (thanks to my predecessors, particularly HL Carlotta, Lady Faina, and Duchess Julia!), and I promise to do my best to make it something the Shire can be proud of. I welcome any suggestions, comments, and, of course, any submissions (articles, artwork, etc.) you may have at any time. Some of you have already shared ideas for additions, and we’ll be working over the coming months to make those a reality.

I remain, as ever, yours in service,

Juliana Avenel

From the Rapier Marshal

As I write this I am looking out the window at a dreary January morning thinking about how cold it is going to be this afternoon and wishing I could go to fencing practice today instead of working today.

With the beginning of the new year, let’s get fighter practice off to a great start. Our February practice will be on the twentieth of the month. I am planning on taking at least one road trip each month to a practice in the area. If anyone is interested in traveling with me on the first or fourth Sunday of the month, please let me know so that we can arrange to meet and travel together either in one vehicle or as a group.

Rhiannon

From the Minister of Arts & Sciences

Most Charming Lords and Ladies,

I am of the belief that we did indeed have the best of holiday seasons and have much to lend us cheer. Twelfth Night twas a splendid affair abundant in diversions. Ansteorrans bidding for best boast -did show their qualities. Laughter rebounded from end to end of the hall-I be not sure of the winner yet the show itself had much merit. The feast was such that though there was no room left I could not deny the temptation of the desserts. A grand time was had by all.

Our scribal guild is back on track and met as usual on the Last Thursday of January. Uncommon accomplishments were achieved (the key to this comment is known only to those in attendance that evening and I assure them that it shall not be repeated). The last Thursday of February shall fall on February 24th. We begin at 6 and continue until 9 in a newly remodeled room spacious and comfortable. Please join us if you may. I secured a bounty of charters at Twelfth night to last us for some time, or calligraphy arts may be practiced if you will. Lord Gottfried will be observed in the corner carving something for a certainty. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any questions or needs for scribal guild!

In addition, our gracious Lady Rosesia is coordinator for Sewing Guild and we shall have our first gathering the fourth Saturday of February (2/26/11) from 11 am to 4 pm at Knotty Girls Stitchery 322 ESE Loop 323 Suite 156, Tyler TX (the Loop and Broadway area next door to Tuesday Morning). Sewing Guild will be the 3rd Saturday of each month beginning in March. Bring your machines, fabric and work on whatever you choose. Contact Lady Rosesia with questions at [email protected] and watch for notices and reminders on the list.

Do recall please that we shall benefit from the expertise of Mistress Rhiannon teaching us Blackwork embroidery at the March A & S meeting which will begin at 2 p.m. prior to the populace and officers meeting. Of course, again, we will send reminders and other specific information regarding materials and the class in the coming weeks. Kingdom A & S will be here soon so consider entering something-if nothing else for the valuable feedback that you will receive.

I do sing praise and gratitude for the massive number of missives sent this month unto me in response to my plea for information of your A & S projects/activities (I do but jest as naught was sent save one). Be not so humble Rosenfeld-thou art creative and artistic and

I delight in noting each of us for the kingdom to see (I do prithee for in February shall I beg again for thy news trusting that thou wilt favor me even with a -lacking our Lady Elena’s presence…very well, no more puns for now, I do promise.

In sincerity- I wish for peace, joy, prosperity and fun in our days and spirits always assured that the best is yet to come.

Blessings,

Emma Farewyll Rosenfeld MoAS

From the Event Stewards for Three Kings

To Rosenfeld I send greetings!

Lord Aodh has agreed to be Deputy Steward of this year’s annual event. It is not too early to start considering what role you would like to play.

This year’s theme is "Tournament of the Cross," and if you have any ideas, please let me or Lord Aodh know and we will add it to our agenda. All suggestions will be considered.

In service,

Sarah
