MLK 2020 CELEBRATION A 4- day event celebration The Life and Legacy of REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. January 17, 1 pm - 4 pm - Day of Service Participants will serve at five locations throughout the Roanoke Valley. Registration will take place January 8 – January 15 in the Moody Center. Check-in on January 17 will be in the Moody lobby at 12:45pm. The service project will be at the Feeding America Southwest Virginia food bank from 1:30 - 3:30 pm (students will return to campus by 4:00pm). January 18, 7 pm, VAC Auditorium – Movie – “Betty and Coretta” Coretta Scott King and Dr. Betty Shabazz develop a friendship after the tragic deaths of their husbands, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Through their strength and dignity, they carried on the civil rights movement becoming role models for millions of women all over the world. January 19, 2 pm, VAC Auditorium - “What Is Your Life’s Blueprint?” Rarely seen footage of Martin Luther King, Jr., speaking to students at Barratt Junior High School in Philadelphia on October 26, 1967, where he delivered his speech "What Is Your Life's Blueprint?" Participants will engage in dialogue about their life’s blueprint. January 20, 12 pm – 1 pm, Goodwin Private Dining Room – MLK CONVO Conversation Openness Navigate Vocabulary Opportunities Exploring the public speech, “Our God Is Marching On.” (parts 5 and 6) King delivered this speech on the steps of the State Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama, after the successful completion of the Selma to Montgomery March on March 25, 1965. January 20, 11 am – 1 pm & 5 pm – 7 pm - Moody Counter - Paper Linking Participants will have an opportunity to write their names and short message reflecting their tribute to Dr. King and wishes for the Hollins University Community. The linked messages will be displayed in Moody. .
