Description of archival group
The EPP Group in the European Parliament was founded on June 23rd, 1953 as a political faction (CD Group) in the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). In July 1979, following the first direct elections to the European Parliament, the group changed its name to the “Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democratic Group)"; as of July 1999 it was officially called the "Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats" (EPP-ED Group). After the elections to the European Parliament in June 2009, it returned to its old name as the "Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats)."
The archival group currently comprise 106 running meters of texts and span a period from 1952 to 2008.

The ACDP (Archive for Christian-Democratic Policy) first took over the CD group's materials in February 1982 in Luxembourg. The then Deputy Secretary General Friedrich Fugmann handed over the group's entire archive, which included documents from its founding up to the early of 1970s. In the November 13, 1981 contract between the ACDP and the CD group, represented by its chairman Dr. Egon A. Klepsch, it was agreed that the group would hand over their old files after each election period. However, the files could not all be acquired in the subsequent period because they were no longer being collected and archived in a single location in Brussels, as they had been previously in Luxembourg. They remained in various offices and were often destroyed. Nevertheless, due to the efforts of Ms. Inge Kotzak from the group's documentation center, much could still be saved. Noteworthy is the almost complete collection of the group’s meeting minutes from between June 1953 and January 2008. As with other important meeting minutes, they have been recorded with the individual data necessary to enable targeted access. Other important files are the meeting minutes of the group's Presidency (1978–2006) and Bureau (1954–2001). The minutes and papers from the Group Chairmen's Conference (1986–2006), the meetings of the group’s Secretaries General (1999–2000), and the Bureau of the EP (1997–2004) were acquired from the office of the former Group Chairman and EP President Hans-Gert Pöttering and from the group’s General Secretariat. The General Secretariat's correspondence and the materials from study days and other events also document the group's work. This work is also evident in other sources concerning the preparations for plenary sessions or the group's publications. Documentation was integrated into the holdings, which served as an archive for the group's staff until it was acquired. Since 2001, access to the group's intranet has made it possible to print and archive the group’s meeting minutes, as well as those of the working group.
Entire series of publications, such as the group’s printed work reports, CD-Europa, Europäische Hefte, etc., as well as collections of materials that did not directly relate to the work of the group, were separated and transferred to the archive library.
An important addition to the EPP / ED Group archival group are the files from the CDU/CSU Group (Christian Social Union) in the European Parliament (ACDP 09-010). In this context, reference should also be made to the other holdings in section 09 of the ACDP (international Christian Democratic organizations):

The ACDP also archives a series of personal papers from former and, in part, current members of the European Parliament, or the Common Assembly of the ECSC prior to 1958, which includes materials for the Christian Democrats group. These can be found online in the (archive's) fully searchable summary of records at www.kas.de
The finding aid contains only the archival materials that are viewable in accordance with the access regulations of the Archive for Christian-Democratic Policy of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the contractual agreement with the CD / EPP group in the European Parliament.
