Assumption Catholic School (ACS) in Perth Amboy, NJ proudly congratulates its former student upon his reception of the Sacred Order of Deacon. Anthony Robert DiStefano, class of 1979, received the Sacred Orders of Deacon through the imposition of the hand of the Most Reverend Joseph W. Cardinal Tobin, C.Ss.R. Archbishop of Newark on Sunday May 21, 2017 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. Deacon Anthony attended A.C.S. from kindergarten to eighth grade. Always an exemplary student, Anthony and his family faithfully attended Assumption Catholic Church where Anthony regularly served as an Altar Boy. Upon graduation from Rutgers School of Law, Juris Doctor, with Honors, Anthony devoted his practice in defense of workers' compensation claims. In 1994, along with his partner Joseph Biancamano he founded the Biacamano&DiStefano Workers' Compensation law firm where he worked until answering Christ's call to the priesthood. He was recognized by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Compensation Law Attorney. Anthony entered the Seminary and began his studies in preparation for the priesthood. His final step on the way to the reception of Holy Orders will culminate on the last Sunday of May, 2918 when he is scheduled to be ordained a priest.

JUNE 11, 2017 6 St. Nicholas Catholic School, Passaic, NJ is #1 (Number one) in the State in Algebra 1 Contest

After taking a series of four competitive Algebra I exams sponsored by the Catholic Math League, the 8th grade at St. Nicholas Catholic School in Passaic, NJ has scored First Place among all eleven participating Catholic middle schools in New Jersey, and 7th place among all 100 participating Catholic 8th and 9th grades across the country. In addition, students Konrad Leszczynski and Stefan Mychalko distinguished themselves individually by placing first and fourth, respectively, among all middle school students who took the test nationwide.

On May 6-7, eighteen children received their Sacrament of First Penance and their Solemn Communion at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Passaic, NJ. It was a joy to all of us to welcome them fully in these sacraments and be part of their celebration. We congratulate them and their families. JUNE 11, 2017 10 Longtime Bridgeport, Pa. Pastor, Rev. Msgr. Dr. Ronald P. Popivchak Celebrates Golden Jubilee of Priestly Ordination

Bridgeport, Pa.— Sunday, May 28, 2017, the parish family of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church here honored Rev. Msgr. Dr. Ronald P. Popivchak on the occasion his 50th anniversary of priestly ordination.

Father Ronny, as he is affectionately known, celebrated a Divine Liturgy of Thanksgiving which was also attended by Metropolitan- Archbishop Stefan Soroka, Auxiliary , Bishop Emeritus Basil Losten of the Stamford Eparchy. Concelebrating clergy were Very Rev. Robert Hitchens, Very Rev. Wasyl Kharuk and Very Rev. Taras Lonchyna.

Metropolitan Soroka was the homilist and recounted the dedication and love with which Msgr. Popivchak has served his faithful in Bridgeport since 1972 and the reciprocal love the faithful have for Father Ronny. He noted, when Msgr. Ronny proclaims the Gospel, everybody listens and

Science Fair Winners from Grades 6-8

The students of St. Nicholas School in Minersville, PA, once again participated in a School Science Fair. The Science Fair projects showed the creativity and initiative of the students. The following themes were researched by the winners: Chemicals found in bottled water; best insulators; sunscreen effectiveness; how various liquids affect the rate at which rust occurs; the effect of hot tubs on blood pressure; effectiveness of various liquids on the cleaning of metals; changing the color of live flowers; the use of energy by different types of light bulbs; and sugar content in various drinks.

The school honored the Holy Mother of God

with the annual May Procession. Each student presented the Mother of God with a carnation and after prayers and songs honoring the Mother of God, this year’s Jr. Sodality President, th Francesca Modica, placed a crown of flowers on the icon the Mother of God. This year, in celebration of the 100 anniversary of the Apparition of Mary in Fatima, the students prayed a rosary for peace before the icon of the Mother of God. Graduations: Preschool
