Athletic Training Services The Athletic Training Room is a fully independent operation of athletics that employs two certified athletic trainers supported by athletic training students. As physician extenders, the staff provides athletes with what they would receive from a physician’s office. Injured athletes do not have to schedule appointments or travel to receive medical services because the ATR is directly in the athletic setting. That mission is to prevent and care for athletic injuries while improving the performance of all Highland athletes, and their dedication to this mission is one reason HCC athletics compete at a superior level.

2017 Season Recap For the first time since 2011 the Highland men’s basketball earned a trip to the National Tournament and went 1-2 in action in Danville, Illinois falling to Arkansas Mid-South in a tough buzzer beating game.

The Scotties put together a season that saw the second most wins in school history finishing 26-9 overall, winning a Regional VI title and finished second in the KJCCC. Highland during the season broke a pair of team records setting single season best marks in free throw percentage (73.3%) and three point field goals made (296). Head Coach Jerre Cole also became the winningest coach in school history.

After a 1-3 start to the season the Scotties responded and put together a strong 2017-18 campaign going on to pick up big wins and qualify for the National Tournament. Of the nine losses on the Scotties had eight of them come by single digits.

Highland finished the season ranked #18 in the final NJCAA DII rankings putting together the second most wins in a single season.

2018 Season Preview The Highland men are coming off a 26-9 season that saw them earn a bid to the NJCAA DII National tournament for the first time since 2011 and claim a Regional title. There 26-9 record marks the second most wins in a single season in program history. Scottie men enter this season preseason picked second in the KJCCC DII level behind only Johnson County (Fort Scott, KCK, Labette and Hesston finish out the pre- dicted order third through sixth).

Only two players that saw the court last season for the Highland men are returning this season but there is more experience than that back overall with a pair of redshirt players back on the court after a redshirt season last year. All-Conference player Taiveyhon Mason returns to pace the Scotties and once again be the maestro on the court for Highland at point guard. Mason returns after being the second leading scorer on the team last year averaging 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game starting in 34 games. Joining Mason back from last year’s team is DJ Doakes who played a role off the bench last year seeing action in all 35 games last year averaging 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Andre Jackson and Jaquan Daniels re- turn to the court for Highland this season after a redshirt last year and bring two years of experience in Head Coach Jerre Cole’s system with them. Jackson and Daniels both suited up for Highland during the 2016-17 season and each played in all 32 games. Jackson started 28 games averaging 5.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, while Daniels averaged double figures posting 1.51 points per game along with four re- bounds per game. On top of the four players back with experience at Highland the Scotties bring in a group of five guys that have college experience before coming to Highland.

Cole Barton, Tristen Hull and Malik Cushon all suited up last year for another team and transfer to Highland from Quakerdale, St. Cloud State and Cowley, while both Rashon Johnson and Luiz Machado Jr. come to Highland after redshirt seasons at other schools. Add in freshman, Stacey Jones, Amear Johnson, Eric Johnson, and Jaron Flowers and the Scotties have a group of diverse talent with length and plenty of athletic ability.
