Derecho storms through the Midwest August 12, 2020
A destructive derecho stormed through a long stretch of the Midwest on Monday, bringing torrential rain and dangerous straight-line winds to Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. With wind gusts up to 112 mph, the derecho moved from far southeastern South Dakota into Ohio in 14 hours — downing trees and power lines and damaging crops, homes and buildings.
