A champion day for our Christmas Show at saw an overall top call of £2020 with every section full of stock.

Christmas Show. The prize for the highest price per 52 + 85 163 84 156.9 kilo on the day was won by Chris Jenn, Fairholme, Overall 85.80 195 80.60 181 Woolsery who realised 195p for a pen of 42kgs at Light Ewes 79 45 £82.00. Followed by 2 vendors at 189p Terry Heavy Ewes 94 84 O’Reilly, Rectory, 42kgs £79.50 and Mr G Rams 86 74 Goss, Pixton Farm, 42.4kgs £80. There were another 20 pens which realised 185p and over.

Top price per head on the day for a pair of lambs was £85.80 from Geoffrey Heywood of and the Primestock Show prize for the highest price per head for a pen of 3 lambs or more was won by Mike and Ken Hill of for a pen of 52kgs and reached £85. Numerous other pens sold at £82 to £84.

388 DRAFT EWES & RAMS

A lot more on offer with many plain and light ewes on offer again this week. The big heavy ewes that were on offer sold to a top of £94 from Bernard Allin of Launcells. Several pens of other big ewes sold between £85 to

£92.

274 STORE LAMBS

Again all store lambs very much in demand with again no large framed lambs on offer. The average framed lambs saw several pens over £64 to a top of £66 which won the Christamas Show prize for Highest Price on the day won by Messrs Govier & Son, Great Hele Barton, for 30 Charollais x lambs.

A superb Christmas Show entry of 265 being the biggest entry on Show day for many years.

A nice entry of 62 Stirks saw a top call of £505 for the best of a team of 14 Blues from A.P Andrews of with Roger Jenkin of Manaccan, West hitting £472. Terry Souch of Hartland sold a cracking line up of Blue Heifers at £465 with another group from Mr Andrews at £460 which included the Champion ‘Stirk calf on the day’ kindly sponsored by Milling.

Over 200 baby calves saw the Show Champion kindly sponsored by Bridgmans awarded to Messrs Isaac of for a lovely Blue Bull (34 days old) and reached £440 purchased by Jim Rapson of Milton Abbot. Other young Blue bulls in from Kevin Parsons of Jacobstow at £430 with Messrs Petherick of Kilkhampton at £420 and £410 for babies from Messrs R Johns & Partners.

Limousin bulls topped at £410 for Messrs Renfree of Quethock with one of the best runs of Limousins ever seen at Holsworthy topping at £402 from Messrs Collins Partnership.

Chris Bailey of Park Lane topped the Charolais at £345 with Messrs Cobbledick topping the Simmentals at £328 with baby Simmentals at £140 for Messrs Knapman of South Molton. Messrs Juke of Werrington topped the Herefords at £245 just in front of a quality run from John Colegrove of St Ewe at £230. Angus bulls from Colegrove Partners hit £180 with Messrs Dilling at £172 with Ross Headen of Weare Gifford at £160. Holstein bulls topped at £140 for Messrs

Tallamy with the best babies at £95 for Jeff Endacott & I.M Mitchell of St Winnow with Messrs Tancock at £85.

A splendid entry of heifers saw Messrs Jenkin of West Cornwall hit £400 & £350 (x3) for Blues with the best baby Blue heifers in from Kevin Parsons at £252. The Champion Baby Heifer kindly sponsored by Folk to Folk reached £300 (32 days) and purchased by Derek of . Lots of heifers £240 plus with more buyers ready to spend.

A massive thank you to both vendors and purchasers for the Christmas Show and a big thank you to the Show Committee for their input of this successful event on which has set the building blocks for next years sale with added classes!!

Our Judge Mr Neil Parris, had a tough job with several very good consignments on offer finally awarding both ‘Best Group of Steers and Heifers to Ken & Richard Ford of Bideford for their 18 month old pure bred Charolais realising to £1070 for 4 Steers and £1095 for a group of 3 Heifers and also a Pedigree Charolais heifer 19 months old soar to £1120. Several forward continentals saw a much stronger trade than previous weeks reaching a top of £1300 for two 26 month old Limousins with the Herefords from the same farm selling to £1170. Some well farmed Charolais from Messrs J. McInerin of Broadwood topped at £1175 with 4 British Blue’s fetching £1115. Young Continentals sought after with some good well bred cattle on offer topping the steers was Miss B Heale of Holsworthy with 4 Hereford 8-9 month old steers fetching £880 and 8 month old Heifers to £730. A real shortage of young dairy x continental steers and heifers saw several bunches 10-12 month cattle exceed £630, more required. A stronger Friesian Holstein trade this week with a top of £860 for a 24 month old steer from Mr R Griffin of Whitstone with other 2 year old steers to £840.

This week’s winner of the Lark Plant award for top price store cattle goes to Mr Barry Vickery, Kilkhampton for Limousin steers reaching £1300.

The top price this week was £500 for a 2011 Holstein Cow from Mr M Burnard of Pyworthy with others from Mr J. Heal, Dolton to £490.

11 OTM WEIGHING COWS Auctioneer: David Kivell – 07899 960272

Meat cows topped at 95p this week for a 726kg Holstein from Mr M Greenaway of with other heavy cows (700kg+) from 80-86p. Small meat cows were a harder trade at 50-70p.

Thank you to our vendors for a good show of cattle this week the championship was won by a British Blue Steer from Miss L. James, Higher Soldon Holsworthy weighing 644 kilos selling for 216p £1387. Limousin Heifers weighing 610kgs from Mr A Axford of Pyworthy sold at 183p £1113. Native Heifers from Mr B Vickery Killock Farm, Kilkhampton topped at £1114 for a 690kg heifer 162p with Aberdeen Angus from the same farm to 171p.

A full shed of dairy cattle including a good entry of fresh milk for the Christmas Cracker Show and Sale enjoyed a very strong trade. DAIRY CATTLE Top Ave

Overall top price of £2020 was achieved by a 1st Calving Heifers (1st Quality) 1900 1777 2nd calver ‘Bartinney Goodwhone Dakota GP82’ 1st Calving Heifers (2nd Quality 1600 1465 freshly calved yielding 46Kgs and sold on 2nd Calving Cows (1st Quality) 2020 1705 behalf of Messrs DW & RJ Warren from 3rd –5th Calving Cows 1950 1642 Penzance. An outstanding trade was seen by In Calf Heifers 1450 1267 all in milk cows and the top price was closely In Calf Heifers 2-5 months 950 710 followed at £2000 for the 1st prize best cow in Yearling heifers 600 480 milk ‘Tenoaks Minicio Floss GP81’ another Heifer calves 190 153 freshly calved 2nd calver yielding 42Kgs and sold on behalf of Gordon Davis, Tiverton. A tremendous trade was seen for older cows in milk with ‘Wardada Dennis Lillie ASR’ a freshly calved 3rd calver yielding 40Kgs & rising sold at £1950 on behalf of F.E Adams & Son, Torrington. Another 3rd calver yielding 44Kgs sold at £1900 as part of a smart consignment of cows from Messrs J Kempthorne & Sons, Bodmin. 4th calvers topped at an impressive £1700 for ‘Hawkleigh Hotshot Lady EX90’ selling on behalf of Messrs PF & MW Fishleigh, Winkleigh.

A good entry of freshly calved heifers also saw a very strong trade topping at £1900 on 2 occasions for the same vendor Messrs RN & D Jenkin from Manaccan, Helston for October and September calved heifers which included the 1st prize heifer in milk. Many heifers exceeded £1800 including WA Hooper & Son who sold 3 heifers from their ‘’ herd above this mark, PH Reed from also sold heifers over £1800 from his ‘Gidcott’ herd. An outstanding trade was seen for all qualities of in milk cattle.

Close to calving in calf heifers had an excellent trade topping a £1450 on behalf of Brian Bath, Bude with Gary Richards of Helston selling in calf heifers at £1380 & £1320. Early to mid gestation heifers saw an easier trade compared to the close to calving heifers topping at £950 From Messrs RS & AJ Delves, East Sussex. An entry of grazing type dry cows had a solid trade topping at £700 on behalf of Messrs DG & VM Hale, . Yearling heifers from the Coppice Park herd of Mark Hillson, Yelverton topped at £600 for a 14 month old maiden heifer. Heifer calves saw an easier trade topping at £190 for a pair of heifers from Mr D Thorner, Ashwater.
