Svenskt Gudstjänstliv Årgång 82 / 2007 Svenskt Gudstjänstliv årgång 82 / 2007 Hjärtats tillit förord 1 omslagsbild Luther skapade ett eget emblem eller vapenmärke, den s.k. Lutherrosen, som han såg som en enkel symbol för hela sin tankevärld. I ett brev den 8 juli 1530 ger han följande förklaring till sitt emblem: Först är det ett kors, svart i ett hjärta med naturlig färg, för att jag skall påminnas om att tron på den Korsfäste gör oss saliga. Ty om man tror av hjärtat, blir man rättfärdiggjord… Ett sådant hjärta skall sitta mitt i en vit ros som symbol för att tron ger glädje, tröst och frid – den sätter kort sagt den troende i glädjens vita ros. Tron ger inte den frid och glädje som värl- den ger. Därför skall rosen inte vara röd utan vit, ty den vita färgen är alla saliga andars och änglars färg. Rosen skall stå i ett himmelsblått fält som symboliserar att glädjen i anden och tron är en början på den kommande himmelska glädjen. Den är redan nu en del av tron, som i hoppet griper om det man ännu inte ser. Vad är »lutherskt»? 200 ragnar holte 243 Recensioner förord 5 Förord sven-åke selander Titeln på årsboken Svenskt Gudstjänstliv 2007 är hämtad från Dietrich Bonhoeffers psalm i översättning av Jonas Jonson: »Med hjärtats tillit att Guds goda makter / beskyddande och trofast kring oss står» (Psalmer i 2000-talet, 817). Samspelet mellan »hjärtats tillit» och »Guds goda makter» är också ett bärande tema i Ingmar Johanssons mässa: »till dig. Kroppens och innerlig- hetens mässa». Eftersom hjärtat inte bara lever i tilliten utan också utsätts för sår, »vårt sår», »hjärtats sår», sjunger man i mässan om sorg och onda dagar. Mot denna bakgrund framträder Gud som »den läkande kraften», som den som kan »rädda våra skrämda själar», som får människor att känna att: »du får komma precis som du är. / Du är älskad precis som du är. / Du är väntad precis som du är» (Johansson, »till dig», preludium). Man kan urskilja två tyngdpunkter i Bonhoeffers psalm och Johanssons texter och musik. Hjärtat står som symbol både för den oroliga, sökande, hjälpbehövande människan och för den människa som funnit sin tillflykt och trygghet hos Gud, och för hjärtpunkten, dvs. det centrum i den kristna tron, där oro förbyts i trygghet, i mötet med det frälsande budskapet: »en- dast kärlek läker hjärtats sår». Både hjärtat och hjärtpunkten framgår också av följande vers i Bonhoef- fers psalm: Än plågar allt det gamla våra hjärtan, än tynger onda dagar som vi minns. Kom, Herre, rädda våra skrämda själar med frälsningen som vi har skapats till (817:2). Har man väl funnit och upplevt hjärtpunkten i den kristna tron kan man också uppleva i sitt hjärta att: 6 svenskt gudstjänstliv 2007 I goda makters underbara omsorg vi väntar lugnt vadhelst oss möter här. Gud är hos oss var afton och var morgon, Guds kärlek genom varje dag oss bär (817:1–5). Fem gånger sjungs denna refräng i psalmen. Trygg musikalisk utformning understödjer också Johanssons budskap: vägen till ett hjärta som kan leva i tillit går via upptäckten av och inlevelsen i den kristna trons hjärtpunkt: frälsningen. Eller uttryckt med Ingmar Johanssons text: För hur skulle Kristus komma Hur skulle Kristus Om inte på detta omvälvande sätt Genom ett brustet hjärta Genom ditt hjärta Älskade, var inte Var inte rädd Älskade, var inte rädd (Predikan) Vi tror på den namnlöse guden som laddar vårt liv med liv Som bor i vår omsorg om allt som är skört, hjärtats vilda knytnävsslag Vi tror att Gud är den läkande kraften i sorgen som vidgat våra liv (Credo) För Martin Luther och för evangelisk – luthersk trostolkning var och är samspelet mellan hjärtats behov av tillit och trons hjärtpunkt: frälsningen i tro på Kristus avgörande för möjligheten att kunna leva »i goda makters underbara omsorg». Om hur budskapet om detta samspel kommunicerats och kommuniceras till människor handlar denna årsbok. Martin Luthers trostolkning står i centrum. Det handlar också om hur man i olika sam- manhang sökt föra hans trostolkning vidare. En viktig fråga för Bernice Sundqvist i hennes inledande uppsats är: »vad betyder det för Luther att bli välsignad»? Ett av hennes svar är att Luther ville betona »välsignelsen som Guds omsorg och beskydd […] Luther vill väcka tillit till en vänligt välsignande Gud» som beaktar både kroppsligt förord 7 och andligt. För att uttrycka detta lyfte Luther som välsignelseformel fram den aronitiska välsignelsen, som berättar om »hur Gud beskyddar och ger ljus, nåd och frid», formuleringar som skapar »en rätt tillit hos mot- tagaren». För Luther var trons hjärtpunkt, frälsningsbudskapet, något som borde väcka glädje i hjärtat. »Var man må nu väl glädja sig / här är stor fröjd på färde». En nådig Gud var trons hjärtpunkt och budskapet om detta ett glädjebudskap för hjärtat: »Nun freut euch lieben Christen gmein». I den psalmen förmedlar Luther hjärtats glädje över djävulens nederlag och Guds seger. Inger Selander och Jørgen Kjærgaard visar hur detta glädjebudskap förvaltats i olika översättningar i Sverige och i Danmark fram till vår tid. Trons hjärtpunkt och människans sökande efter tillit kommer i kyrkoli- vet särskilt fram i nattvardens sakrament. Lars Eckerdal visar med utgångs- punkt i Lutherpsalmen »Gott sei gelobet und gebenedeiet» / »Gud wari Loffuat och högeliga prijsat» hur kommunionsången utformats i Svenska kyrkan. Kronologiskt kan tidsspannet mellan originaltexten från 1524 och Den svenska psalmboken från 1986 tyckas vara långt, men budskapet är detsamma: »Gud vare lovad! Han som i sin godhet / mättar oss vid natt- vardsbordet» och »förnyar våra hjärtan» (A. Frostensons översättning). Att uttrycka tron i musikalisk form var en väsentlig uppgift för Luther och reformatorerna. Men hur skapa en musikalisk form som inte bara underströk den intellektuella utan också den emotionella innebörden i den tyska texten. Musiken i den traditionella latinska texten riskerade att motverka upplevelsen av den tyska bibelöversättningens puls. Om dessa problem skriver Birgit Stolt (med biträde av Ragnar Holte). För Birgit Stolts analyser spelar principer från retoriken en avgörande roll och ger nya infallsvinklar. J.C.F. Haeffner var en stor beundrare av Luther och hans reforma- tionsverk. Det gällde av naturliga skäl särskilt Luthers insats på musikens område och påverkade utformningen av Haeffners koralbok. Det är inte osannolikt att Haeffner tillagt Luther en större roll än vad som verkligen är fallet. Om sådana problem skriver Anders Dillmar. Luther har naturligtvis inspirerat till text och ton inte bara direkt utan också indirekt, inte bara på 1500-talet utan ända fram till idag. There are few main problems in the history of Western art, from the age of manuscripts to the age of movies, which have not received the benefit of Pan's learned, pointed, and playful pen. From this point of view, therefore, almost any subject would provide a suitable opportunity for building on foundations already laid by him to whom we all wish to pay homage. The task becomes at once more difficult if, in addition to this, more specific aims are to be considered. A Swede, for instance, wishing to see the art and culture of his own country play apart in this work, the association with which is itself an honor, would first of all have to ask himself if anything within his own national field of vision would have a meaning in this truly international context. From sight-seeing in the company of Erwin Panofsky during his memorable visit to Sweden in 1952 I recall some monuments and works of art in our country in which he took an enthusiastic interest and pleasure.' But considering them as illustrations for this volume, I have to realize that they are not of the international standard appropriate for such a concourse of contributors and readers from two continents.

Especially the historical perspective from Filmlyd og filmmusik and the interviews from Short Cues would have been useful in the context of Vilhelm’s book, that generally supplements the existing Danish literature well. In general Det visuelle øre is well-written in a fluent, easily read language. But the wide (journalistic) use of clichés and metaphors generates a nagging irritation that undermines the otherwise convincing presentation. This also applies to the titles of the chapters. A general in- consistency in the many film titles mentioned throughout the book also disturbs the reading: most are mentioned in Danish, some in English, and some in both languages. More serious proof errors also appear – for example Erich Wolfgang Korngold was not born in 1879 but in 1897 (p. 30). But these are details in a generally sturdy work that offers an impressive amount of information about and insight to the work and thoughts of professionals in film music. I think it would make a useful text book for university courses of ethnomusicology across Scandinavia (and why not in other countries?). The reader might already know a great deal about the singing in his or her own country, but the broad spectrum that this book presents makes it possible to compare the different singing traditions to each other and to discover interesting differences.

Here, two distant relatives to Valdemar IV have a claim to the throne and delegates will need to decide who will succeed to the throne. SINAITICA (2): IOASAPH OF RHODES’ INVENTORY OF THE ARCHBISHOPS OF SINAI ALEXANDER TREIGER In September 1640, Ioasaph of Rhodes, the archbishop (in 1617-1660) of the Sacred Monastery of the God-Trodden Mount Sinai drew up an inventory of the hierarchs of Sinai mentioned in Sinai Arabic (and, on a few occasions, Greek) manuscripts.1 This inventory is preserved in Sinai gr. 2215, fol. 27r / p. 51.2 In his Abridgment of Sacred and World History (Ἐπιτομὴ τῆς ἱεροκοσμικῆς ἱστορίας), first printed in Venice in 1677, Ioasaph’s disciple Nectarius (1602-1676, patriarch of Jerusalem in 1661- 1669) incorporated the information from Ioasaph’s inventory into his own catalogue of the Sinai hierarchs.3 Nectarius’ catalogue, in turn, was worked into the various Greek ‘Descriptions’ of Mount Sinai, the first of which was printed in Tîrgoviște, Romania in 1710.4 An updated Arabic translation of it is preserved in Beirut, Bibliothèque Orientale 17, from 1 This article is the second installment in the series ‘Sinaitica’.     Wittenberg Influences on the Reformation in Scandinavia by Simo Heininen, Otfried Czaika Wittenberg was the most important source of inspiration for the Reformation in both of the Scandinavian kingdoms, the Danish kingdom and the Swedish kingdom. In both kingdoms, the authorities played a defining role in the Reformation, though it proceeded very differently in these two Early Modern states. The Reformation became securely established most quickly – both politically and in terms of church law – in the Danish core territory. Sweden, on the other hand, was de facto already a Lutheran country before 1550, though it did not become Lutheran de jure also until the last decade of the 16th century. Particularly in the peripheral parts of Scandinavia (especially Norway and Iceland), the Reformation went hand in hand with closer political integration in Scandinavia and it was therefore adopted rather reluctantly by the population. Notes Indices Citation Political Background From 1397, the kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden were united in a personal union (the so-called Kalmar Union) under Danish control (ᇄ Media Link #ab). In the early-16th century, the union was approaching its end. There were increasing tensions between Denmark and Sweden, the latter being governed by regents from the House of Sture. In November 1520, Christian II of Denmark (1481–1559) (ᇄ Media Link #ac), the last union king, was crowned for a second time in Stockholm. After the coronation festivities had been concluded, a heresy trial was staged with the help of the Archbishop of Uppsala and the accused were the supporters of the Sture party.

    1 The ‘long reformation’ in Nordic historical research Report to be discussed at the 28th Congress of Nordic Historians, Joensuu 14-17 August 2014 2 Preface This report is written by members of a working group called Nordic Reformation History Working Group, that was established as a result of a round table session on the reformation at the Congress of Nordic Historians in Tromsø in Norway in August 2011. The purpose of the report is to form the basis of discussions at a session on “The ‘long reformation’ in Nordic historical research” at the Congress of Nordic Historians in Joensuu in Finland in August 2014. Because of its preliminary character the report must not be circulated or cited.     Martin Berntson Chapter 8 “Our Swedish Moses and Saviour”: The Use of Biblical Leaders as Power Legitimization in Reformation Sweden The Vasa-regime that seized royal power in the kingdom of Sweden during the early sixteenth century was in urgent need of a power legitimization that could both corre- spond to well-known traditional symbols and narratives but also at the same time le- gitimize the new regime and its adherence to the Lutheran Reformation. The use of Old Testament kings and leaders such as David, Jehoshaphat, Joseph, and Moses could thereby function as typologies relating to the Jerusalem Code. However, through relating these Old Testament kings with their responsibility for the peoples’ spiritual needs and with their distinctive biblical foundation, the Jerusalem Code was trans- formed and adjusted to early modern Lutheran political culture, emphasizing the king’s responsibility for the Church and for the people’s spiritual well-being and the lack of biblical foundation for the Catholic sacramental culture (for example, mass in Latin, pilgrimage, and the use of sacramentals). It could also be argued that the fre- quent use of figures such as Moses and Joseph was a significant part of the Jerusalem Code in Sweden, signifying both the importance of humility and God’s providence in the secular government. Introduction In the kingdom of Sweden the introduction of the Reformation coincided with a na- tional political revolution. The process towards establishing a national Protestant church was to a large extent governed by the political and economic needs of King Gustav Vasa (r. 1523–60) whose regime marked Sweden’s leave-taking from the Note: This article has been presented as a paper at the Sixteenth Century Society Conference in Bruges in August 2016 and it has also been discussed at a workshop at the Norwegian School of Theology in Oslo in September 2017.
