Times Square is a major commercial intersection and a neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan It takes its name after the former location of the New York Times. Its name used to be « Longacre Square » but on April 8th 1904 it was renamed « Times Square » under the mandate of Brinton McClellan Jr.

In the past, Times Square used to be one of the most dangerous place in New York City. During the 30's it was the place for prostitution, drugs, crime. Times Square became the symbol of deliquency and corruption. In the mid 90's, Rudolph Giuliani improved the neighborhood and the sex shops were closed . Prostitution, delinquency and crime were eradicated by the application of the so-called "zero tolerance" policy.

Today Times Square is a constantly buzzing tourist magnet; the square is even one of the most visited places in the world. Times Square is one of the most desirable place for advertising, with the area's famous electronic screens and striking billboards : the best known labels have their digital billboards on Times Square : H&M, American Outfit, M&Ms... There are over 100 shops.... the Disney Store and a largeToys"R"Us. Times square is the best place for shopping in New York. ...

Times Square is also best known for its entertainment, and plenty of visitors come here to attend a Broadway show. Times Square is also home to MTV's headquarters and ABC's 'Good Morning America' is broadcast in front of a live audience from its office at 44th and Broadway.
