Impulsado principalmente por una fuerte demanda, se ha expandido consolidado y globalizado en los últimos 15 años en países de todos los niveles de ingreso. La ganadería es fundamental para la subsistencia de alrededor de mil millones de las personas más pobres del mundo. Las aves de corral, en el mundo rural en particular, son esenciales para la subsistencia de muchos agricultores de escasos recursos, puesto que a menudo es el único activo que poseen. Este tipo de aves representa aproximadamente el 80 por ciento de las poblaciones de aves de corral en los países con déficit de alimentos y de bajos ingresos y contribuye significativamente a: (i) la mejora de la nutrición humana, mediante el suministro de alimentos (carne y huevos) con nutrientes y micronutrientes de alta calidad, (ii) la generación de pequeños ingreso y el ahorro, es- pecialmente para las mujeres, mejorando así la capacidad de hacer frente a las crisis y reduciendo la vulnerabilidad económica, (iii) proporcionar abono para el huerto y la producción de cultivos. La importancia de las funciones socio-culturales y religiosas de la producción avícola rural para el sustento de pequeños agricultores, más allá de su importancia económica o nutricional, también es ampliamente reconocido. Esta publicación es una recopilación de artículos cortos que dan una visión general de los bene- ficios de los productos de aves de corral y proporcionan información sobre los diferentes aspectos de su producción.     FALL 2020 VISIT OUR WEBSITE -From the Dean - Greetings alums, supporters, faculty, students, and friends! This academic year continues to be one like no other. We understand how our entire world has changed since early 2020 and that we are all facing challenges that test our patience, our endurance, and our creativity. Early in the summer of 2020, we began planning for this fall a mixture of teaching modalities but with limited face-to-face teaching. We are pleased with how things have gone. Students have persevered, faculty have pulled out their best ideas, and UNO has delivered the best education it can amidst these extraordinary times. Kudos to our faculty and our faculty leaders who have gone above and beyond this semester. The College of Liberal Arts, Education, and Human Development continues to move forward despite the challenges that the virus has thrown at us. As you read through this newsletter, you will see how much we have accomplished. I am more than proud of our faculty and students. Please continue to support us as we continue to work through these difficult times. Our students are working hard to continue their studies despite financial hardships.
