Carry on your service to the suffering humanity - continue your duty as allotted to you. There is no reason to be worried. At all. Victory is surely yours.

SHRII SHRII ANANDJU4URTI

THE TRIAL

BABA'S STATEMENT

Shrii Shrii Ananda Murtiji , the Rev. Marga appeared in the court of Mr. R. P. Srivastava, the Special Munshif Magistrate, on 18-9-72 in connection with the much publicised case. He has not been keeping good

health for long. As such, He was brought in an ambulance in charge of a medical officer and a magistrate. The Rev. M.G. made his 90-minute statement required u/s 342 CR. P. C . which was recorded in English by Mr. R. P . Srivastava Special Magistrate in a camera in presence of both Prosecution and Defence lawyers. The press was not allowed on this occasion.

Hardly had the Rev. M .G. entered the courtroom and taken His position on a cot , specially placed for Him at a little distance from the Magistrate's chair , the Magistrat asked Him , "In which lang uage shall I record your statement?" At once went forth the clear reply: "I know more than two hundred languages . You can record my statement in any language you prefer. However , for your convenience , i lI you can record my statement in Engl sh.

In course of cross-examination , the Magistrate referred to the prosecution ) contention that due to certain incidents at Ananda Nagar (Baglata , Cooch Behar and Calcutta , the Avadhuta and other whole-time workers of the organiza tion, Ananda Marga, had defected, and some of them had started a rival insti tution , Shishu Niketan , at Kakdwip - a fact which caused concern to Him.

While refuting the above-mentioned contention, the Rev . M. G . said that ilthere was no defection after the Ananda Nagar incident or the Cooch Behar incident . But after Calcutta incident some workers left the organization. It did not cause concern to me, because Ananda Marga is a , and even if a man leaves the organization, he follows the cult and I had no reason to become concerned ."

DFTS-02837 In reply to another question about recelvlng of reports regarding the defection of 7 workers and their anti-Marga activities, the Rev. M.G. said, "I did not receive any report and I do not receive any such report . It was never brought to my notice that the said persons have defected from the or ganization."

While answering a query regarding His position and role in the organisa tion, Shrii Shrii Ananda Murtiji said that He was founder President of ANANDA MARGA PRACARAKA SAMGHA and the Guru of ANANDA MARGA CULT. In this connection, He stated that only ERAWS was a department of ANANDA MARGA PRACARAKA SAMGHA and no other organisation, as mentioned by the prosecution, was branch of A.M.P.S. or affiliated to it.

While the Magistrate asked Him, by way of referring to the prosecution charge, whether Anandamurtijii was claiming Himself to be the Taraka , God incarnate, like Siva and Krishna, He refuted the charge by saying that Ananda Marga did not support Avatarvada. lilt is false," He said, "to say that I claim •••••that I am Taraka Brahma and God incarnate in the line of Lord and Krishna and Buddha. Those who say that I am an Avatar do not know anything about Ananda Marga Philosophy ."

In reply to another querry, He denied that under His orders, Madhavananda went to Calcutta to take over from Tapeshvarananda the duty of circle commander, V.S.S., Calcutta Circle.

Then the Magistrate referred to certain prosecution charge s that on 27- 7-70, under his orders, Tapeshvarananda was tortured by Samb oddhananda in the presence of Madhavananda, to extort some confession regarding his association with and collection of funds (in the name of Ananda Marga) for Shishu-niketan Kakdwip . Anandamurtijii described all those facts as "incorrecLII Thereafter the Magistrate raised a few more points: That Tapeshvarananda begged mercy from Anandamurtijii and was refused on the ground that he (Tape shvarananda) was working against the organization. All these points, He said, were false .

In the course of further cross-examination, He described the charge as false that He ever ordered Sarveshvarananda (G.S.) to condemn Tapeshvarananda and other defectors in a meeting of the workers at Tatanagar . Re ferring to His role in the organisational hierarchy, He said, III am only constitutional head. I do not hold any official powers and I never issue any order. No such order as alleged above were issued by me."

In reply to another prosecution charge that on 28-7-70 at a Tisco Bungalow, Anandamurtijii and some other accused persons conspired to kill Tapeshvarananda and six other defectors within seven days. He stated that "no workers' meeting was ever held at '::'atanagar and hence all the ab ove facts are false."

While replying to another querry, He clearly denied to have ever ordered the formation of any Execution Body.

He further denied the prosecution charge that on 29-7-70 He ordered to do the execution work near about Tatanagar so that the help of Mr . Akbauri Himachal Prasad might be available. "These facts," He said ridiculously, "have been concocted by some interested party.1I

While replying to a charge that He (Anandamurtijii) scolded Madhavananda for not completing the murders of all the seven persons within the alloted time, He said, "Since last three years I never talked to Madhavananda . I had stopped talking with him after the Cooch Behar incident . All the above facts are false ."

2

DFTS-02838 He described as totally false and concocted the prosecution charge that He came to know from a newspaper the news of recovery of three unidentifiable dead bodies in Tatanagar Jungle and in a meeting of some accused persons He advised Sambuddhananda and others to be cautious in the future.

While replying to the point regarding the letter of Tapeshvarananda which he gave back to Vishokananda and subsequently was burnt up, He said, "No letter was given to me at Tata.1'J.agarj and all these facts are false."

In course of further cross-examination, the Magistrate referred to the prosecution charge that He (M.G.) ordered Madhavananda through Sarveshvarananda to murder Amulya Kumar instead of showing mercy to the latter at the request of G.S. -- to which He replied: "All these facts are false and fundamentally baseless."

To another charge that He expressed satisfaction when Madhavananda saw Him on 16-8-70 after completing the murders, He replied, Madhavananda was not allowed to come to my room after Cooch Behar incident. I was so much displeased with him and Krishnananda that I never talked with them thereafter. All the above alleged facts are false."

While the Magistrate referred to another prosecution charge that Mrs. Uma Sarkar insisted upon Him for producing Tapeshvarananda and others and after being convinced of the murders left the organisation, Baba described the allegations as 'incorrect' and 'concoction of fertile brains.'

In reply to another querry of the court, as to whether Krishnananda was told in Calcutta that those persons were punished under His orders because of their espionage on behalf of Govt. as also their anti-l1arga activities, Baba said, "All these facts arc incorrect. I never talked to Krishnananda after Cooch Behar incident and he could not have asked me anything."

To another prosecution charge that Avadhutika Ananda l1aetrejii, was told by Baba that the said persons had been killed in the interest of the organisa tion, Baba said, "All these facts are baseless, false and concocted: as, He said, He never talked to ladies except in meetings.

While ans\vering another querry, Baba told the Hagistrate that there was no conspiracy as alleged. "All these facts are false" - He stated. Asked about the hand-bill, wherin the said seven persons were denounced for anti marga activities and subsequently, declared enemies of the organisation, as the allegations go, Baba replied, "No hand-bill was handed over to me by P.A. Vishokananda. All these facts do not concern me."

Then the Magistrate referred to the prosecution charge that the Shishu niketan, Kakdwip which was started by the defectors was ordered by Baba to be smashed, and that later on, an Ananda l1arga Primary School has been opened in the same building -- to which Baba' s reply .JaS: "We have got so many schools and all those facts concern my office and not me. I do not know if Ananda l1arga school has been started in Shishuniketan building at Kakdwip.

Before closing the cross-examination u/s 342 Cr. P.C., the court asked Raba if He had got. anything to say more obviously to ma.'k::e His posi t.ion clearer .. And finally Baba traced the background of entire episode, throwing light on His position, role etc. of ex-Madhavananda, ex-Vishokananda and ex-Krishananda. He said, "My ex-P.A. Vishokananda was discharged from that post in the last portion of Sept. 1971. I had a programme at Calcutta from the 24th of Sept. 71 to 5th Oct. 71. nile I was at Calcutta Vishokananda was served with the 3

DFTS-02839 relieving order on the 27th Sept., 1971 in the evening. He refused to accept that order. The incoming P.A. Acarya Ramananda Avadhuta was present at Calcutta at that time. We requested him to take charge and he took it. Next morning, ie.e, on the 28th of Sept., Vishokananda requested me to retain him as my P.A. but I expressed my inability to comply to his requests. He then requested me to retain him even as my domestic secretary, if not as p.A. and to allow him to remain in my quarter. "I said that your request shall be co nsidered at proper time. On the 1st of Oct., 1971, when I was just going to sit for my evening puja, my wife Smt. Uma Sarkar came from her father's place and she requested me to retain \Tishokananda as my P .A. I tola her that already I had a parley with Vishokananda, you need not request me, but she went on requesting me again and again in the same irritating way. I told her that you are a lady, you have your own work, and don't poke your nose in other affairs. She became furious and said that she won't live there and she left the house with Vishokananda. lile leaving the house with Mrs. Uma Sarkar, i.e., my Calcutta residence, Vishokananda took away all the money that I had in that residence, and up till now he has not submitted any account of expenditure, and did not return the unspent cash to my new P.A. For this, a case was filed against him in S.D.O.'s court, Patna, in Oct. or Nov, 71. It was long before Vishok ananda was interrogated by the C.B.I.

Regarding Madhavananda during my Cooch Behar programme, in August, 1969, near about J anmasthami, MadhavaIlanda and Krishananda were in charge of my security and other arrangements. But when I was attacked hy some anti-social elements, they fled away from Cooch Behar. They did not go away as gentlemen, they fled away with my security car even. They went to Calcutta and everybody there condemned their actions. I was to hold Mahacakra at Howrah after going from Coach Behar. Everybody wanted that disciplinary action should be taken by the General Secretary against l'1adhavananda and Krishananda for this improper action. The younger generation, particularly Japeshananda, l'1rityunjayananda and a few other young boys becamp v0ry much vocal against Madhavananda and Krishananda. Madhavananda started looking on them as his enemies. Mrityun jayananda was so much excited that he openly declared: The tortures, humil iations and insultations under went by Baba were unbearable and that he would resort to -killing, by pourine petrol and burning himself somewhere in Calcutta Maidan. When this news was conveyed to me, I informed him per messen ger that according to Ananda Marga, there is little difference between suicide and homicide, and as such, he should refrain from such a homicide decision. I don't know why the General Secretary didn't take any step against Madhavananda and Krishnananda. From my side, there was a mute protest. Thence forward I did not talk to them and did not allow them to enter my room. So far as I know, from that tiDe they were suffering from a sort of inferiority complex. Due to inferiority complex, they joined hands with Vishokananda, conspired against me, concocted many a story against me, with the intention of regaining their lost position, by humiliating me and my Ananda Marga. I have nothing more to add, please.

ANANDA PRINTING GRAND OPENING OCTOBER 25

On the morning of October 25 Margiis from the Wichita area (many repre senting most sectors of the Uni ted States) rose early and silently made their way to the new print shop (some three and a half blocks from the National Headquarters) , A..rriving in silence, they qu Lckly moved throughout the building and at a silent command the almost timid tones of BABA NAM KEVALAM echoed. As the volumn rose, the bliGsful joy of another Ananda Marga project was under way, and Ananda Printing was vibrated with a Dharmacakra for its MARGII opening. An opening for the general public was held throughout the rest of the day, and for sure many felt something they couldn't explain due to the early morning Dharmacakra.

Ananda Printing will do regular business printing during regular business hours, but when the business doors close at 5:00, the Ananda Marga and community service doors open. All Ananda Marg printing (National office, AMURT, RAWA and for Jagritis from around the country) will be done with volunteer labor at the lowest cost possible. Also, all community, church, ecology, environmen tal, youth action, spirituill non-profit and any other groups dedicated to the upliftment of humanity will be able to get their work printed for a price they can afford. In short, Ananda Printing will do both business and social service printing with one helping pay for the other in dollars and the other paying for the other in blissful vibrations.

DFTS-02841 SADVIPRA NEEDS YOU

Feedback from the first issue has started to filter in, and it is apparent that there is much room for improvement in Ananda Marga's North American news paper. On of the chief criticisms of Vol. 1, No . 1 , and a problem that we have felt here in Wichita is that the news coverage is rather limited in scope, centering mainly on Ananda Marga projects.

Throughout the country, and the world, there are events and projects which would be of interest and relevant to a journal which is trying to nourish the spiritual growth and social vision of its readers; the problem is funneling this news into the editorial office of SADVIPRA.

In answer to this problem, the cditorial staff of SADVIPRA is making contacts with spiritual and social organizations which might be the source of such news. We are also exchanging SADVIPRA for other publications, and will try to reprint important articles. But another pressing need is for SADVIPRA to have its own staff of correspondents. This should be easy for us with Jagrities in every state and on every continent. All we need is for people to step forward and take on this responsibility.

It would be very helpful if each jagriti would designate someone as a SADVIPRA representative. in journalism is helpful, but not nec essary. Please send in this information, and we will contact you and will help to establish a strong network of correspondents.

Another need is for more financial support from the Margiis. Our sub scription list still totals less than 200. If you enjoyed reading SADVIPRA, express it tangibly - subscribe. If you didn't like SADVIPRA, give a vote of confidence in our ability to improve and subscribe too (you can send in your suggestions for improvement along with your order.)

New subscription rates are $3.00 for 12 issues and $4.00 for 18 issues.

Prompt action on both of these matters is essential if we are to continue with the regular pblication of SADVIPRA. Action makes the man great.

Sadhana Dutta (Lorraine Spiegel) has just arrived in the United States with her husband, Ravendra. In a recent visit to Wichita, Ravendra related many stories about Baba and devotees with Him. We felt that all of the lovely stories about our Guru should be available to everyone. suggested that if we would collect some stories, she would organize them for printing. Her request is that you print or type your Baba stories and send them to her.

DFTS-02842 PUBLICATIONS IN PROCESS

A nightmare of the Publications Secretary might be Dada Yatiishvarananda returning from a tour which found him traveling to 35 units. A reception committee greets him at the Wichita Airport and is completely startled to see him staggering under the load of two very heavy boxes. Inside --- thirty different Ananda arga Introduction Booklets, each one from a different unit. The nightmare is that each unit sees much the same need, i.e., an introductory pamphlet or a book on AMYS Ratha Yoga, and each unit completes their own. wt.at a tremendous misuse of Baba's Energy.

So now, dear brotners and sisters, we have a Review Committee, we have a print shop, we have Baba's love flowing through each of us, but one thing is missing regarding printing and publications. We need communication of information regarding all publications and complete utilization of energy and time. We need cooperation of all of you to make this attempt at coor dination successful. Use us as a clearing house for all about publi cations. What sorts of publi.cations are needed? Books? Pamphlets? Posters? Handouts? Who wants o write them Which artists are interested in illus tration, graphics?

In order to present a more accurate, consistant and esthetically pleasing image of Ananda Marga to the public as well as our own members, all publica tions bearing the name Ananda Marga must have written approval of the Publi cations Secretary before printing (please understand this rule is an aid, a necessary element i coordination of publication.)

If you are planning any type of pUblication from a simple hanuout to a book, please send a rough draft, outline, or general plan along with the purpose of the propoced pUblication to the Publications Secretary at the National Office. Copies vJill be made and the material sent to the various members of the Review Board. They will read as objectively as possible, make notations and return it to Wichita. There (in Wichita) the Pracar, Publica tions and Public Relations Secretaries will incorporate and analyze the ideas into the preliminary material and send it back to the originator. The origi nator will then write or rewrite the copy and return the final draft to the PUblications Department. At this point, the work will be finalized and printed or presented La Lhe Review Board for final comment and then published.

(Technical advise is also available regarding all phases of the publish ing/printing process. Take advantage of this as well as the presses.)

The following are books and brochures in different stages of preparation:

1) A book with sketches and descriptions of all the

2) A booklet on teaching hatha yoga, many beautiful techniques and suggestions.

3) A booklet on how to do pracar, especially geared to those starting new units or struggling with older ones.

DFTS-02843 5) An introductory booklet for new initiates, so we can have our choice of one or two to give to a "particular" new initiate.

6) Ananda Marga in Practice (On the Path???) covering the material of the 16 points in a detailed but beautiful manner; and

7) The "slick brochure," a pracar pamphlet designed for UDe with the more established community, very versatile with inserts for your area ( if you desire) and it will be able to be changed to keep ir.formation up to date to suit the needs of particular units) regions, etc. It can also be used as a program and/or mailer.

Here are some publications which are temporarily or nearly out of stock in Wichita, so don't send for them until they are revised or reprinted: Old Ananda Marga Cookbook ( orange ) , On the Path, Ananda Marga in Social Service, and all of Baba's books not mentioned in the publications list.

"We like God because he didn't make the same color fl owers or the world ugly. God made the world beautiful. We will help make the world beautiful. Will you help make the world beautiful?" KEVIN BABLF,s - age 10

Some neighb orhood kids ( black and whit e, ages 6-12) walked into Ananda Printing a few days ago. They \'Jere curious about what kind of st ore we were opeing. Uththaman ( Dick Griffin ) and Giita ( Susan Eaton) explaine d that a print shop was being opened.

"Se e, I told ya it wasn't anything for kids!" stated one boy and they all started to leave.

"Wait a minute, we'll do things for kids as well as grown-ups," said Uththaman.

"What do you rrint?" came the reply from a little girl.

""'Jell, we print stationary, envelope s, business cards, books, pamphlets, handouts, programs, forms, etc." Uththaman told them.

"See, you guys, its another grown-up business for grown-ups let's go home!" and again they started to leave.

Giita glanced over at a copy of Sadvipra inspiration! "We print newspapers, do kids ever write newspapers?11 she asked.

All at once seven or eight very excited voice s shouted, "Could we? Could we?"

Of course they could and with that, Baba manife sted a beautiful children's newspaper, "GErTING TOGETHER" ( copy enclosed) . The kids got all the ads, wrote the article s, drew the pictures, even did some of the typing and most of all, they put across a me ssage of truth and beauty that all "grown-ups" can relate to.

They had re cently formed a club, the Blacks and \fhites. The day after the inspiration hit, they had the whole paper drawn and written. It was at this point that Sukumar ( Steve King ) took the reins and guided them through the next stages of the developing newspaper. The interaction between Margiis, storekeepers and kids was and is great. When the paper was printed, the kids distributed over 300 copie s at 5¢ each in less than 5 days.

The newspaper itself explains the need for children!s comments and crea tive expression to be made to the public. We need the LITTLE pe ople to help us BIG people get it together. ALL WE ARE SAYING IS GIVE KIDS A CHANCE.

DFTS-02846 NATIONAL SOCIAL SERVICE TEAMS AND YOU

In the last month some far reaching dicisions and plans have been made about Ananda Marga Social Service in this country; mainly, they involve the decision by AMURT workers in ltJichita to divide the team into separate "lelfare and relief teams. National AMURT and Welfare Sections will have the national overview of their respective areas; an effective system of communication between local units and National AMUHT a.l1d Welfare Offices will carry infor mation about priorties and their maintenance and goals, and their implemen tation. National workers are now undergoing training in relief and welfare areas and are researching projectG and implementation techniques.

Ananda Marga is a tree with two trunks - sadhana and service; with the new steps being made at centering national social service efforts, the two will continue to grow and intertwine more beautifully.

AMURTnl

By mid-Novenber, the organizational structure of National AMURT will have been developed into a concrete form. Even now, as this structure is shaped, the present national tea members in Wichita are taking on new jobs - res ponsibilities to insure that certain high priority tasks are completed by the winter UKK. These are:

1) To communicate to the units how the National AMURT office will coor dinate diGaster relief activities

2) To receive and corelate information from units on local AMURT activi ties, training and organization; and

3) To continue intensive training in disaster relief and rescue techni ques in Wichita as well as set up a tentative national training program utilizing services of other relief groups as well as AMURT tralners.

It is time now for all Margiis to begin to pull together to set up an effective and prepared relief organization that is national in scope. The National AMURT Office is striving to create channels that will permit all relief efforts to flow together, so that all can participate in Baba's plan for service.

a WELFARE t'J

I'!e have been sO b188sed to feel Baba I s great love growing always stronger in our hearts. Especially when we come together for seminars, there is no doubt as to the Divinity of our Master, the magnitude of His Mission, and so we must do His work. Up until now, Margiis throughout the country have gotten involved in various social service projects, there have been great

II

DFTS-02 successes and also many mistakes, but never a chanel to share these inval uable experiences. The newly-formed National Welfare Section will serve this vital need by coordinating all social service projects and information. This will be accomplished by:

1) Maintaining active communications with all units as to service projects and individual Margiis involved in service work.

2) Coordinating all this information so it can be shared throughout the units - to help with ideas for starting ongoing and parttime projects, how to improve programs, how to incorporate Ananda Marga techniques in other agency social service work.

3) Coordinating the establishment of all permanent social service projects.

Plans for the structural organization are being completed now, and more detailed information on how each unit will be able to participate will arrive before UKK . The first communication exchange will be a social service in formation form - to begin best utilization of our experiences, and this will be sent to units in the next few weeks. Baba tells us that we, as spiritual soldiers, must undertake the mighty task of saving the earth, by our and by our service. Hay we all join together to undertake this glor ious task. BABA JAl!

SUGGESTIONS FOR SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAHS FOR THANKSGTVTNG

'rhere are many people who do not enjoy the love of friends and family, and whose lonliness is especially agonizing at times of national celebration like Thanksgiving. You can help bring Saba's love with some very simple, but vastly rewarding social service projects:

1) Visit a nursing home -

a) Find out, by calling, if most clie'1ts are paid for by welfare (these are usually the most alone people) and then ask if you can come visit for a few hours. b) Bring food - fresh fruit and baked goods are particularly wel come, and you should be able to get food donated if you explain the project to food wholesalers S;1permarkets restaurants Cyou might want to get materials donated and do the baking yourself.) c) Prepare some songs - with musical instruments. Traditional spirituals are great and everyone loves BABA NAH KEVALAH (Dada

Jaga Deo reminds us when we sing Kiirtan, we're effecting the

vibration of the entire area - country ••• think •• if all Margiis had a project like this on Thanksgiving! Tf you can play simple guitar cords it really helps bring people together! d) Select inspirational readings - passages from the Bible are really liked by senior citizens. e) Don't have any expectations of thanks, gratification - just go in prepared to do devotion to Baba and you 'Nill be amazed!

This kind of program can be used also in:

2) Children's orphanages

3) Hospitals - especially long-term like veterans or community hospi tals where welfa' CI",tipntro: Elrp " 'nt.

12

DFTS-02848 4) Individual familip8 - contact the department of welfare" explain that you'd like to visit a needy family and bring some food and you'll be overwhelmed by the response (We get calls every day from welfare, etc. needing social service volunteers. )

Also, when Acaryas visit your unit, bring them to your service projects. We have been bringing the new Dadas to the day care centers, school for retarded, yoga class for handicapped and its been great for pracar. Staff in these projects have been initiated, and we have gotten much inspiration and ideas from working with the Dadas. Prepare the group before you bring Dada, suggesting how yoga can be utilized in the prograJll.

In Wichita, we have begun 1) using chanting in all our projects, 2) doing daily meditation at day carecenter, and 3) using exercise and massage with retarded children.

VISTARA HOUSE GROWS NEARER

By Babais infinite Grace, Vistara House will open sometime in late November or December. Fund raising continues as we begin remodeling the newly acquired house. The house parents, Rick and Kristine Duffin, will move into Vistara House to supervise the remodeling.

Everyone anxiouoly awaito the grand opening. The most oomber of those waiting are on the 8th floor of the Wichita City Jail. It is there that judicated girls, some of whom will live at Vistara House, are presently placed. These girls are frustrated, tense and misguided. They need a secure envirormlent, and people who can teach them about consideration, cooperation and most of all self-discipline. These are the needs Vistara House will ful fill for these girls. What will make Vistara House unique from other similar projects is the ideation of love and unity that will be the of the entire program. In all of our endeavors, we will be successful if we apply proper ideation to our actions.

CATCH YOUR ELEPHANT

On any major project which you may undertake, there is always that difficult problem of deciding exactly what to do first. We know that we had two big "catches" to make:

1) Our elephant (the mascot of the Blissful Orange Elephant Garage Sale and Carnival) and

2) The people who we wanted to corne to the Blissful Orange Elephant.

The purpose of these two "catches!! was also twofold:

1) '1:0 raise moneJ)' for Vistara House, Inc., and

2) To gain the support of local people for our cause and to show them that Ananda Marga are just normal people like you and me.

13

DFTS-02849 The goal of gaining publicity/understanding of AMYS and Vistara House came much closer to being realized than the fund raising part of the event. We had excellent cooperation with local radio and television stations as well as newspaper coverage. One TV station came and video-taped preparatory work for the event while other stations televised the actual garage sale and carnival.

The Governor of Kansas had planned to appear, but due to last minute committments was unable to. However, he sent a representative from the Governor's Commission on Drug Abuse to do the honore. Miss Kansas came in cognito (almost) in her blue jeans instead of the usual crown and gown. Other local and state officials were aware of the event and either came, sent represeEtatives or sent best wishes for success.

Along with the mentioned celebrities, some talented mUSlClans agreed to donate their time and energy. We had a jazz trio, four different guitar players, a country/western group with Goody Goodman on the piano, Candillo's Latin Brass, a Barber Shop Chorus, Barb Life on piano, and a clarinet quartet.

The Garage Sale was the most successful of the money making aspects of the BOE. The total amount of money made ,vas $1 250, Ivith about $900 coming from the Garage Sale.

In a garage sale, most of the work is in the preparation. We probably had one of the biggest garage sales ever in Wichita spread all over the backyard of the Jagriti. It took many workers hours to sort and price the items, but only boro cashiers to man the sale during operation. Although we sold a lot, there was much left over.

As a major money making event, the Carnival was unsuccessful. We planned too much! We did not have enough people to organie what we planned, and as it turned out, we could not really focus the event. If the planning had been done on a smaller scale, a few hundred dollars could have been raised without a lot of effort.

We also had a Bake Sale, and Baba as usual. the perfect plan master, made sure that lessons were learned. All ingredients for the cookies and cakes of the sale were donated by local wholesalers, so we made money on what we sold. and then delivered the left over 600 cookies to His less priviledged children in hospitals, children's homes, old folks homes and mentally retarded centers.

Probably some of the most important returns of this project are the and experience e;ained by AMURr workers. Slovlly, ever sO slowly, it seemed we learned the need for good solid organization. Not just a rough outline, but a detailed sketch of the whole picture. This is necessary for maximum utilization of time, money and energy.

Another area where we gained a lot of experience was the handling of volunteers. Actions speak louder than 1tvords, we found. Don't do pracar, be pracar. Always have a ready smile or friendly word and a jar of cookies marked "For Volunteers."

I have received several letters from both and groups of parents for information on spiritual education. Most wish to offer services or request them. One way all of us can come closer together in realizing our mission of establishing joy-filled, beautiful, and creative schools is to say our needs and abilities more clearly to each other. I should like people interested in the project of an Ananda Marga School System to send in a 3 X 5 card with the following information:

NAME: AGE: ADDRESS: TEL. NO:

Purpose: 1) I wish to learn to t:ach 2) I am experienced in teaching and want a position 3) I have several children and want an Ananda Marga school in my community 4) I have other resources which I would like to place at AMYS disposal Other

Clarification: Explain your purpose in your own words, and give background where relevant. For example, if you want to learn to teach, what educational experiences have you had? Do you wish to study only in the U.S. or abroad? Be as specific as you can imagine. If you want a position, are there geographic preferances, salary requirements, etc.? If you have children, what ages, what schooling, how much could you afford by way of money and effort monthly-yearly to a school? Do you know of buildings or land in your area that are reasonably priced which could house an Ananda Marga school? etc. etc.

Once I have this information, Nandita and I can organize it and send it back to you via the Crimson Dawn or by special newsletter.

Currently, many people are interested in learning what paths have come to my attention that might be viable roots for Margiis to grow from into teachers.

News: Currently three Margiis are enrnll prj at the Waldorf Institute. Krpa and Vishok are applying to Emmerson.

Let's face the truth, Ananda Marga schools will begin, flourish and thrive when teachers becune full in their meditation and their creative external expression. In order for artistic teaching to be born, artistry must be cul tivated in our daily lives. We can only feed others to the extept that we have food in our pantry.

DFTS-02857 PRACAR SECRETARY REPORT

Last summer 15 units were sending repo rt s . Since the, with the help of the new forms , communication in this area has increased phenomenally. We have had correspondence from 92 units this month, 87 of which sent formal reports.

The rapid incease in our communication level is beautiful . To grow both externally (in numbers) and internally (in our personal progress . knowledge and strength) closer communicat ion will be ne cessary . It is a matter of mutual support - "reporting" give s information on the strengths and we akne sses of individuals so that coordination between them is possible and programs to help us grow can be implemented.

If you know of a unit which has not sent reports or gotten in touch with the Pracar Secretary lately , please encourage them to do so immediately. We are having to assume that addresses whi ch give no response are incorrect , and will therefore be dropped from the next Crimson Dawn lsting ..• Looking forward to hearing from you again next month _

DFTS-02858 September 's Back-to- school Special in Ananda Marga is an increase of ac tivity on all fronts. As the beginning of the month has the incoming mail box swamped with over 80 (eighty! ) unit report s, ,/e sometime s get the feeling that Baba' s growth spurt has already started. He said that when he was re leased from jail Pracar would increase 16 times more .

"How can a unit se cretary be blue , when he 's secretary for Baba? All I can say is that while the pay' s not great , the fringe benefits sure are beauti ful . But I espe c ially like the retirement plan - Moks 'a. Oh Baba. Sometimes its hard to see Baba as the clash , but its sure easy to see the cohe sion as our Baba."

PUBLIC RELAT IONS SECRETARY REPORT

Public relations has been a forgotten area of Ananda Marga Yoga Society . Now with Babn 's trial mwing headlines in United States papers and papers around the world, wl. t the world public and more important to us , what the United States public thinks abuclt Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii must not re st in the hands of the corrupt . We must make our love for Baba, our kno'tJledge of the philosophy , our sadhana and our "movement toward bliss : be felt accross the land. We must talk to the public. We must tell them ab out Ananda Marga in a rational intellectual , loving way that the Ame rican public can relate to. Baba has said that the ideology is the most important thing to communicate to our brotl. rs 'l.d s ist e r s , not what we wear , not hm-J we look , not what we (limited ego us think , but the communication of the divine ideology to the people . This can best be shown through service. The record of the AMURT Team in Wichita has brought Baba' s great me ssage of service to many who have watched the selfle ss service given by AKURT Team members .

Each Margi i will have to tell others the true st ory of Baba 's trial . Know the facts. Do not exaggerate. Do not play Guru one-upmanship game s with other pathG o Tell our Gt ory , prac tice our ideology , live a Margii life by example . 'r ime is too important to 'iJaGte putting down other sister 's and brother 's trips. Critici sm ab out t'leir trip is often insecurity about your O-V\iil . Be great by your service , sadhana and sacrifice , you \\rill never be great by your criticism.

Remember we are all Baba 's public relations experts. Each time you take the step of sacrificing your ego for HIM , HE will take ten cosmic steps closer to your .

DFTS-02859 FAVORABLE DE CISION FROM IMMIGRAT ION

On October 11, 1972, Ananda Marga received a letter from the Regional Commissioner's Office of the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The letter represented a document affirming a favorable decision on our appeal to establish Ananda Marga as a religious organi zat ion , thus making it possible for approval of a petition to accord Third Preference Immigrant Status (per manent residence visa) to Acarya Yatiishvarananda Avadhuta.

This decision is really a milestone for Ananda Marga Yoga Society. We have been striving for this status from the Immigrat ion and Naturalization Service for three years . Now that we have succeeded, three things have been accomplished:

, 1. Acarya Yatiishvarananda Avadhuta now has a permanent U.S. visa.

2. Any other minister of Ananda Marga, regardless of nationality , (Baba l) can re ceive the same without any difficulty.

3. The decision gives Ananda Marga a great deal of credibility.

These are gift s of Grace.

Our immigration lawyer, Haskell Darst , has done a tremendous job for us and now we must pay him for hiD services. We paid him $750 . 00 as a retainer fee with an additi onal $2, 250 .00 to be paid if we were successful . It is obvious what comes next . The Nat ional Office needs help to pay for Mr . Barst 's services. We request at least $25.00 from each unit to cover the cost . Clearly de signat e with your money that it is for "visa expenses," and BABA NAM KEVALAMI I!II

DFTS-02860 UKK

This ioYlth , in the first maj or planning session for this winter's Nati onal UKK , we wat ched as a program slowly began to evolve and unfold within Him , within us. We seemed to be sculpturing the form the b ody - but only He can create and give it life , energy and spir it . The retreat wants to be a warm , positive spir itual growing experi ence for everyone attp-nding - to allow growth in both inoivou;li and spheres, so that an individual re turning to hi s or her unit will be better prepared to deal with what needs to be done (within oneself and in the society. ) The site is not yet definite , so neither are the plans but you \tJ ill be kept informed as they crystal ize out of the supersaturat ed solut ion of thoughts and ideas in our collective mind . Jayashrii, from Denver- has moved to Wichita to direct thiB flow , and people from all over the U.S. will be c ontribut ing in specific areas .

A few guidelines have been se t to help us all achieve this maximum growth and devotion - firs': all attending the retreat will have to be initiated prior to the seminar and familiar with Ananda lilarga pract ices and philosophy. Many people , all across the United States feel that it is ne cessary that a person have some backgro);.nd before being thro\>J n into a he avy situat ion like the Nati onal UKK . In some units, a person may not even be initiated unless he or she has at tended some class or has been doing BABA NNq KEVALAH medi ta tion for some time . In the past , the few new people who at tended a UKK and bene fitted are far outnumbered by those who could not takc the intensity of discipline required to make the seminar flow beautifully . nor could they understand the devotion manifested so strongly . There will be more UKK's, even Regional , State or City level , for those who cannot attend the National . But , even then . those at tending should be initiated and have some previous knowledge about Ananda lilarga , its ph ilosophy and practices.

The second pOint , wh ich an overwhelming maj ority of Margi is wrote in the ir UKK suggestions lS that all (ALL ) attending the retreat will have to pay the required fee. As one sister wrote , "It Beems clear what the next retreat rules should be : NO ONE let in the doors unl e ss he or she has pai d Anyone can scrape together the money if given two months warni ng. Anyone ."

Finally , no one sjould bring the ir pets to UKK . Please have a friend or relative take care of your pet while you at tend the UKK .

If we can make the physical level of the seminar flow smoothly , we will all be fre e to turn our attention to the more subtle mani fe stations of His love . So , to summar ize , all who attend must :

1) Be ini hated

2) Pay

Not be anirr.als

DFTS-02862 Thi s section of "Crimson Dawnlf is specially prepared to relate the events and progress of Ananda Marga outside of the United States. Previously , all of the information in this section was extracted from letters sent by the Acaryas in various countries to the National Office . However" this month there was not enough informat ion contained in the letters we received to paint any picture for others to see the activities "Around the World.l1 In order that "Crimson Dawn" can relate more news from Ananda Marga in other countries, each Acarya should appoint one of his students to write a regular monthly news story for inclusion in the "Crimson Dawn.1! So Acaryas around the world , if you want others to know about the progress of Baba's Mission in your Sector or Region, please send your news story to:

LENDING A HELPING HAND

So here I am lending a helping hand in the National Office -- just recently arrived from Anchorage , Al aska, and now find my self part of the flow here .

The National Headquarters /or whatever/ was exactly this whatever when I was in Alaska . Yet a certain feeling was present -- a feeling of someone doing something right somewhere. It was nice going to the jagrti once or twice a week -- getting together with peopl e, getting it together yourself, a dance, a song , , a smile .

Now in Wichita it 's the same .

Gary Snyder Regarding Wave

This is an appeal for all Margiis to follow the sugge stions put forth by Matthew Lyon in Crimson Dawn II thus to put Margiis in the Community solidly . We here in Warren have found that working in community oriented jobs and mergi ng with our brothers is more beneficial than doing "Ananda Marga Service Proj ects.!! We must all remember the Shiila that warns us of groupism. By working as a teacher, fireman, doctor, minister or whatever, we are doing service to become a part of the greater brotherhood and to spread the Marg by our ac tions. I truly believe Baba want s us to be solid as a group in Dharmacakras an d in spirit , but to spread out from there to help our brothers in what ever way we can. To me this means not' being overly concerned with starting new service proj ects which can at times be superfluous but to get into existing one s and watch the changes. This is often a harder, slower road to travel , )ut His work is being done . I am personally involved in my work with non-Margiis, but am coming to realize that eveyone is a Margii, and hopefully Baba can use me to help others progress . So here we work with local ambulance rescue groups, state police a d other sorts of community people . There isn't a real need to say we are in Ananda Marga, but rather to let things flow into place and do pracar by our actions . Baba will let all people discover the Ananda Marga as they "come of age ." Our community knows we are part of Ananda Marga, but we don't pn sh it in any way , but rather let them discover by themselves that we aren 't wierd or freaky , but real . So often this seems to occur around here with Ananda Marga and other spiritual groups -- that we sl owly e;row and rise up into the Community from all directions so that vIe are part of the wh ole and the people are amazed that it is so.

DFTS-02864 We all saw the mountain in the distance . Some of us came out of our homes and apartments to get a better look. Some forgot ab out the mountain and played in the trees and flowers , in the streams and ponds, dancing and laughing. 'rhe rest of us continued and got to the foot of the mountain, and we all looked on murmuring "Incredible ! Divine !"

Immediately about a dozen of us began to climb . Faster and faster we climbed; the hand-holds and footrests secure . Exhilerated and excited up we ascended. Soon the crowd loomed far behind and began to disappear . Up ward , ever upward we went . The rocks became moist and slippery, the sky gray but otill . Than oomeona olippcd and f ell . W8 all paused and looked at each other. Some began to climb down ; the others of us looked up and began to climb again. The rocks became looser illld the footing not so secure , but onward we climbed without a despairing thought .

Then a ledge some of us were on, gave way and we slipped down into a hidden but semi-protected, semi-secure cleft of rock . The others were knocked off by the falling rock. Far ab ove we saw a very strong and secure ledge where we wanted to get to and rest when suddenly the whole piece of rock cracked and fell . Musing how lucky we were , we discovered a trickle of water ill1d some mountain berrie s. Refreshed we began agina , ascending ever upward. The skies darkened, the cold increased, but ever upward we climbed. The winds vhipped our faces and 100se::1ed our grips on the rock , but our sinewy hardened 'hands stretched ever upward. Nothing lole affirmed will make us turn back, no nothing. Up ruld up we went , the rains and sleet began to chill us to the bone . \veakening , one of us fell, but ever upward the rest of us went . NO ! !! the few of us remaining yelled, we will not stop ! The winds howled louder and blew stronger, but tight ening ruld buckling under, we continued though where , we could not see , but we knew we were going upward. The roar became intense and the climb , very slow. With such strong winds now coming in all directions , we couldn 't tell if we were go ing up or down , or sideways , but we kept climbing. We were still climb ing when we suddenly reelized there was no wind or rain, but only \Yarm filling ruld covering everything. Seeing everything glowing with such a radiant effulgence, we qu ickly found ourselv8s sitting on the rocks of what we thought was the top of the mountain gazing at the great expanse of the earth and the heavens. Behind us was rulother mountain, snow-covred, even higher than the first . Smilingly , I went on , not even turning to sek' if I was followed.

This i s the path of Sadhana, this is the razor's edge and devotion is the only balancing rod. Oh my sweet Lord , "I" don't want to climb all these mountains all the time - - "l" don't want to do all this work all the time . I want to be wtih You and have You with me always. The Maya of Your own Liila is strong , ruld dancp. we must . And the Maya of Your organ i zation is strong , but create we must . "I" don't want to accomplsh anything, becuase "Ill cannot .

I want to be with You , Father, and nobody else . "All other things create such pain. "Ill don't want to think of anything for "I" -- only You. But 1 111 1 forget and 11111 hurt and 11 11 1 think what III" should do. Oh my Beloved , let Thy Devotion flood and inundate my wh ole being that only You may be housed in this vehicle of flesh and bones.. May "I" retire a...Y}d leClve like the unwanted guest .
