We bbeganegan a short conveconversationrsation as he waited to be led into the jail and he asked me if I wwasas wai.ting to see SABA.BABA. I just bbeganegan to answer him as they jerked tthehe rope and pulled him inside the jajail.il . I foundfoand out later thatthat he was an opposition party member and an educated lUaU.mau. Eventually, the CIDeID Investigator came out (he had been inside the jajailil office the entire time) and thoroughly checked my credentials and insisted that my visa for India was invalidinvalid.. I finally showed him all the proper stamps and he took my passport against my wishes and returned inside the jail. From inside, I could hear them tapptappinging my name on the telegraph and was warned that I could probably be arrested if they could get permission from New Delhi. He returned my passport afteafterr my repeated insistance and rudely told me that the visitivisitingng time had expired so there was no possibili�ypossibili~y of meetingmeeting BABA for at least a week. As you can see, I was stalled all day for no reason and in the end; they deemed my re quest in a hypo critical manner.manner . Answer We were given a lice ridden blanket and a cement floor with no cleacleann clothes or cots. In the first months, however, there were 30 of us in the cell at one time and all had been arrested without any toothbrush, change of clothes or blanket.
