‘A closer look at costumes’ offers a retrospective tour of hidden gems and an overview of the distinctive dress styles of individuals or groups that reflect class, gender, profession or activity in time.

While each of our manuscripts has its own unique character reflecting the diversity of the Middle Ages, there is one thing that all of them have in common: the exceptionally high standard of quality.

Then as now, the question of what is appropriate is subject to fashion and local cultural norms. Will it give rosy cheeks and reason to gossip?
