Newsletter No. 6 Term 1 Week 6 11th March 2020

Principal’s Corner – te iwi tahi tatou – we are one family…

Dear Parents & Caregivers

Olivia’s Give-a-Little page Over the Christmas holidays, Olivia in room 2 was diagnosed with Lymphoma. She is currently in Christchurch Hospital to receive treatment for at least 6 months. She is doing well and we are in regular contact. The school would like to support the family as best we can and invite you to help out if you can. We have set up a Give-a- Little page for the family. Please follow the link below to make a donation. The money raised will help the family with travel costs and child support. We wish Olivia well with her treatment and look forward to seeing her back at School. https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/olivia-1

Building update The new classroom block is getting close to completion and will be named ‘Totara Ridge’. We hope to be able to use Totara Ridge on the first day of term 2. The next stage of the building project will be the refurbishment of J Block and the rebuild of the Admin block. As you can imagine relocating classes, along with the office, staff room, meeting room, resource rooms and principal’s office is quite a logistical nightmare. We will let you know the movement plan once we have ironed out the details.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during the rebuild. It’s certainly a challenge to rebuild a school while still remaining operational.

Threeway Conferences These are coming up on the evenings of 31 March and 1 April. These are a great opportunity for your child, you and the teacher to set up and discuss goals for the next term. More information will come out soon, along with the link to book a time.

Playground Our playground has seen better days and it’s time for a revamp. Unfortunately, new playgrounds are extremely expensive and as a decile 10 school, we get minimal funding from the Government. We rely on your fundraising to do all the extra things, such as school-owned Chromebooks, Ipads, new PE equipment etc... However, this year we will work very hard to put as much fundraising as we can towards a new playground. We will keep you informed as this project develops.
