Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city, is located in the south eastern corner of on the banks of the Brisbane River. There are seven commercial radio stations licensed to broadcast in the Brisbane metropolitan area, though other commercial radio stations can be heard in certain areas of Brisbane. There have also been numerous new stations launched since 2009, broadcasting DAB+ digital radio services in digital quality sound.

In comparison to the 2011 census, the population within the radio licence area of Brisbane has increased by 8.82% to 2,195,380. The birthplace for 75% of the population was Oceania including Australian, New Zealander, Indigenous and Islander persons.

Brisbane has a wide range of educational and training facilities for all ages. There are several universities, TAFE colleges and private training institutions in Brisbane. 501,741 people (23%) were attending an educational institution in 2016; 38% of these in infants or primary, 28% attending a secondary educational institution, 26% attending University or another tertiary institution, and 8% attending TAFE. 921,142 people (42%) already have a tertiary qualification; of these, 45% have a degree and 55% have a certificate, diploma or another tertiary qualification.

Of the total dwellings (763,899) in the Brisbane radio licence area, 26% are owned outright and 36% are mortgaged. Private rental properties represent 31% of total dwellings.

16% of the total households in Brisbane have a household income range between $21,000 – $41,999pa, 22% between $42,000 – $77,999pa, 12% between $78,000 – $103,999pa, and 35% over $104,000pa.

AGRICULTURE There are over 122 thousand nut trees in the region; the area produces over 276 thousand kilograms of avocados and nearly 13 thousand kilograms of nectarines. Farms in the area support nearly 30 thousand beef cattle and over 11 thousand dairy cattle.

EMPLOYMENT The majority (59%) of the labour force of 1,136,248 is employed full time. The main industries of employment are: • Education and Training/Health Care and Social Assistance; • Wholesale Trade/Retail Trade/Accommodation and Food Services; and • Manufacturing/Electricity Gas Water and Waste Services/Construction.
