MEDIA RELEASE 26 August 2018 Finalists announced for 2018 Radio Awards th Finalists in the 30 annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) were announced today and featured new categories and first-time nominees, plus Australia’s top radio presenters competing for the coveted Best On Air Team in both the AM and FM (Metro). Two-time winners in the FM category Kate, Tim and Marty (Kate Ritchie, Tim Blackwell & Marty Sheargold, Nova Entertainment 2016, 2017) are amongst the finalists that include, five-time winners Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson, (The Kyle and Jackie O Show, KIIS 1065, Sydney); Jonesy and Amanda (Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller, WSFM, Sydney winners in 2012 and 2014); Hughesy & Kate (Dave Hughes & Kate Langbroek, Hit Network, SCA), Fifi, Dave, Fev & Byron (Fifi Box, Dave Thornton, Brendan Fevola & Byron Cooke, Fox FM, Melbourne) and first time finalists in the category, Kennedy Molloy (Jane Kennedy & Mick Molloy, Triple M Network, SCA). The Metropolitan Best On Air Team AM title will be a contest between last year’s winner, The Continuous Call Team (Ray Hadley, Bob Fulton, Darryl Brohman, Erin Molan, Mark Riddell, Chris Warren & Mark Levy, 2GB, Sydney, Macquarie Media Limited); Breakfast with Steve & Basil (Steve Mills & Basil Zempilas, 6PR, Perth), David & Will (David Penberthy & Will Goodings, FIVEaa, Adelaide, NOVA Entertainment) and Laurel, Gary & Mark; (Laurel Edwards, Gary Clare & Mark Hine, 4KQ, ARN, Brisbane). Another highly competitive category is Best Talk Presenter, with all four finalists this year from Macquarie Media Limited; Ray Hadley (2GB), Ben Fordham (2GB), Neil Mitchell (3AW) and Tom Elliot (3AW). Best Music/Entertainment Presenter has been split into two categories this year with Nova stablemates Ryan Fitzgerald, Tim Blackwell and Kate Ritchie up against Carrie Bickmore (Hit Network) for Best Entertainment Presenter. Best Music Presenter finalists are Melissa Doyle (smoothfm) Steve Fitton (WSFM), Ugly Phil O’Neil (Triple M, Sydney) and Katie Mattin (Nova 106.9 Brisbane). This year’s metro finalists for Best Newcomer On-Air include; Brendan Fevola (FOX FM, Melbourne), Grant Denyer (2Day FM), Xavier Ellis (hit92.9 Perth) and Libby Trickett (Triple M Brisbane). Three new podcast categories have been introduced for the 2018 ACRAs to celebrate the best original podcasts produced in Australia. Four awards will be presented - Best Original Podcast (Branded); Best Original Podcast (Unbranded) and Best Radio Show Podcast (Metro and Non-Metro). Entries were received from 260 metropolitan and regional radio stations across Australia. Stations outside the metropolitan areas are well represented at the ACRAs with more than 200 finalists from country and provincial stations. This year the gala black-tie event will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday, 20 October and will start at 6.00 pm (red carpet 5.00 pm). Chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia, Joan Warner said: “There is a wealth of talent across metropolitan and regional Australian radio and we look forward to celebrating the 30th year of the ACRAs,” Ms Warner said. Organised by Commercial Radio Australia, the national Awards cover 37 categories. Winners are announced in each category across four areas: metropolitan, provincial, country and Syndication/Production Company and encompass all areas of commercial radio broadcasting including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment. The ACRAs differ from television’s Logie Awards in that they are peer judged by industry members.     MEDIA RELEASE 19 October 2019 Jonesy & Amanda win Best On-Air Team FM at Radio Awards Successful WSFM breakfast hosts Jonesy and Amanda (Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller), have been crowned Best On- Air Team (Metro FM category) at the 31st Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs), announced this evening at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane. The win caps off a great year for the much-loved duo, who have notched up 14 years on air together and previously won the coveted award in 2012 and 2014. 2GB’s drive time host Ben Fordham won Best Talk Presenter for the fifth time and 2GB morning presenter Ray Hadley was awarded Best Current Affairs Presenter, bringing his career tally of ACRAs to 33 across all categories. The Best On-Air Team (Metro AM) was won by Afternoons with Erin Molan & Natalie Peters, the first female duo to host a news/talk show on 2GB and the first all-female team to win this award in ACRAs history. NOVA’s popular drive show Kate, Tim & Marty won Best Networked Program and Best Syndicated Australian Program. Best Entertainment Presenter went to Triple M funny man Lawrence Mooney, while Rebecca Morse, half of Hit107 Adelaide’s new breakfast duo Bec & Cosi, won Best Newcomer On-Air. Paul Neville MP Chairman Standing Committee on Communications, Transport and the Arts RG.95 Parliament House Canberra ACT 2600 [Dear Mr Neville] ABA Submission to the House Committee on Communications Government’s announcement of the inquiry into the radio industry, particularly the adequacy of radio services in regional and rural Australia, is very timely. The Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) has implemented many of the provisions of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992, including those relating to the planning and allocation of new services. Eight years later, it is opportune to consider the extent to which the deregulation of radio broadcasting has delivered improved services, and whether legislative provisions have adequately addressed community needs. The ABA welcomes the opportunity to provide the attached submission to the House Committee. The submission provides an overview of the effectiveness of the legislative provisions, in particular, those that are relevant to the Inquiry’s terms of reference. We would be happy to provide additional information on any particular aspect of the ABA’s submission should the House Committee so require. I note the House Committee may conduct public hearings in relation to matters covered by this inquiry, and I would be happy to attend if invited to do so.     MEDIA RELEASE 9 October 2017 Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen back as hosts of the ACRAs, plus performers & presenters announced Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen, best known as members of the comedy group The Chaser, will host the 29th annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) in Melbourne, for the second year running. The satirical comedy stars are the first to host radio’s night of nights for the second time, with previous hosts including Shane Jacobson, Sharon Osborne & Merrick Watts, Kelsey Grammer & Amanda Keller, Charlie Pickering and Stephen Curry. Chris and Andrew have worked in radio throughout their careers and were part of the full Chaser team that made their radio debut on Triple M with The Friday Chaser in 2003. The team has produced over 15 radio and TV shows and in May this year returned to Triple M Sydney for a 12-week stint hosting the Radio Chaser show. “We're thrilled to be returning as the MCs of the ACRAs,' said Chris and Andrew in perfect unison, reading notes written by the organisers. “It is the premiere radio industry event. Now stop reading and smile for the cameras.” This year’s ACRAs will feature a top line-up of Australian performers. Sheppard, the Australian indie pop band with the worldwide successful song “Geronimo”, will open the show. Ricki-Lee Coulter will perform her new single “Not too Late”. Plus, Caitlyn Shadbolt whose debut single “Maps Out the Window” hit number one on the Country iTunes chart, will perform in front of the commercial radio industry at the 29th annual awards.

    MEDIA RELEASE 7 October 2014 Award winning entertainer Shane Jacobson to host Radio Awards Shane Jacobson, one of Australia’s most loved actors, presenters and entertainers, best known for his role as Kenny in the highly successful film of the same name, will host the 26th annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs). Jacobson who most recently starred in The Time of Our Lives, The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner, Mother and Son, Top Gear Live with Jeremy Clarkson and James May, and Jack Irish with Guy Pearce, is no stranger to radio, having once enjoyed a regular radio segment back in 1999 on Melbourne’s Gold FM. Jacobson will host the radio industry’s gala awards on Saturday 18 October at Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre with some of Australia’s most popular radio hosts joining him on stage as presenters. “I have great affection for the live and spontaneous nature of radio and look forward to catching up with some old friends at the ACRAs,” said Jacobson.
