Become an AHAVA Parents’ Association volunteer and/or join one of our parent association clubs. There is something to fit everyone’s time, interests, & talents!

Lunch Program: AHAVA’s school lunch program is staffed by parent, grandparent, and family volunteers who help serve our children with healthy and delicious food choices each and every day! Volunteer once a month or once a week – any time you can give helps.

Hesed Committee: When Schechter families are in need of Hesed [acts of loving kindness] due to illness or death in the family, this committee swings into action providing food or other forms of support.

Class Parent: An integral part of every classroom, class parents help with special classroom activities, projects, and class trips, as well as serving as communication liaisons between parents and teachers, and about AHAVA programs throughout the school year.

School Supplies: Love school-supply shopping? Then this is the committee for you! AHAVA volunteers on this committee work with school faculty to plan and prepare supply boxes for each class that parents can order online for the upcoming year. Students receive their AHAVA school supply boxes on the first day of school.

Parents’ Night Out: Parents need some “down” time away from their children – and a chance to meet other Schechter parents. And, AHAVA needs parents to help organize and coordinate this program. If your idea of fun is throwing a party, then this committee is for you!

Moms’ Night Out: Help plan and organize “An Evening Away” event for Moms’ Night Out.

Dads’ Night Out: A great opportunity to meet other Dads and enjoy some male bonding. Volunteers are needed to help organize and coordinate the program (all are welcome).

AHAVAreads Book Club: Join our new bi-monthly book club, AHAVAreads, and make new friends. AHAVAreads book selections vary, but include leading Jewish and Israeli authors. Book club selections are published in Hebrew and English, and discussions are often bilingual.

The Lorraine Eras, z”l, Seudah and Shpil: Dedicated in memory of one of Schechter’s most committed parent volunteers, the inaugural Lorraine Eras, z”l Purim Seudah and Shpil (Yiddish for play or game) will provide a festive Purim meal and traditional comic dramatization of the Book of , for the entire Schechter Community.

Schechter SpiritWear Apparel: Be part of Schechter’s “swag” (Stuff We All Get) apparel team – help outfit our entire Schechter community with the latest in Schechter-branded kippot, headbands, sweatshirts, pajama pants, and other “SWAG” (Stuff We All Get). Volunteers needed to “model” and help sell apparel at school-wide events.

Art to Remember: Art to Remember” provides parents with the opportunity to order fun memorabilia displaying their child’s original artwork. This committee needs volunteers to coordinate with the vendor, manage the program orders, and distribute the ordered art.

Lulav & Sale: Each , Schechter families can purchase & Etrog sets from AHAVA. Volunteers are needed to administer the process, including placing orders with the vendor and distributing orders. This is another finite project, perfect for the busy parent.

Community Bash: This lovely, fun-filled, family event features games, art projects, entertainment, and festive foods. Volunteers are needed to help organize and coordinate the program, food, assemble goody bags, set up, and clean up.

Middle School Sukkah Party: This kids-only evening event for Grades 5 to 8 is the fall social event for our middle school. Volunteers are needed to help organize and plan the activities, entertainment, and food.

Mishloah Manot: As part of the celebration of Purim, each and every Schechter family receives a beautiful basket filled with goodies. This committee is perfect for parents who are imaginative and would enjoy creating interesting baskets with fun themes that our Schechter families can enjoy, as well as for parents who are organized. Volunteers are needed to come up with basket themes, source the goodies, assemble and wrap the baskets, and organize and coordinate their distribution.

Early Childhood Purim Carnival: Costumes, face painting, games and crafts, it wouldn’t be Purim without a Purim carnival! Volunteers help plan, organize, and coordinate the program as well as supervise carnival booths, set up, and clean up.

Yom Ha’atzmaut Celebration: Help make Schechter the place to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day outside Israel. Volunteers create and implement this community-wide event with game booths, entertainment, food, and fun.

Celebrate Israel Parade: Be a chaperone, coordinate the spectator’s gallery, and work with educational team to plan Schechter’s participation in this premier event celebrating our love of Israel.

Faculty Luncheon: To show our appreciation for all their hard work on behalf of our children, AHAVA plans and sponsors a teacher appreciation luncheon each spring. Volunteers organize and coordinate.

Teacher Hospitality: Let’s show our appreciation to our children teachers by providing them a light breakfast every Rosh Hodesh and during Parent-Teacher conferences. Help organize, prepare, and serve food.

Holiday Foods: Make each special at Schechter. AHAVA volunteers deliver treats to classes on , Sukkot, , Purim, Tu B’, and other hagim [holidays]. Your job is to organize and coordinate the program. Prepare and serve treats alongside other parent volunteers.

First Grade Presentation: Schechter parents coordinate the culmination of first grade learning with a meaningful and lovely ceremony; each first-grader receives his/her own personally inscribed Siddur. Parents assist teachers to plan/coordinate the event, help set up and decorate the gym, organize and set up the food.

Second Grade Humash Presentation: A special presentation and celebration as each second-grader receives a personally inscribed Humash. Your job is to assist the teachers to plan/coordinate the event, help set up and decorate the gym, organize and set up the food for the reception.

Third Grade Ceremony: Third-Graders, their families, teachers, and friends come together to mark the end of using the beautiful Havdalah sets they each create. Your job is to assist the teachers to plan/coordinate the event, help set up and decorate the gym, organize and set up the food for the reception.

Box Tops: Collecting “Box Tops for Education” has enabled AHAVA to purchase such important items as new playground equipment and library materials. You can help coordinate this important school fundraiser.
