A continuing feature of motion pictures up to 1970 starring the late Ken Takakura, using prints donated by Takakura Productions. Program runs from January 6-24. No English subtitles.

A portrayal of the dying Ainu ethnic race in Japan. Then a hoodlum gang goes after the team for the money. Returning to his hotel room after completing his job, he finds the body of a dead woman. Realizing he was framed, he searches for the killer while evading the police. ABASHIRI BANGAICHI Director: Teruo Ishii Cast: Ken Takakura, Tetsuro Tamba / 1965 / 16mm/ BW / 92 min./ No English subtitles STORY: A man is at the end of a three year prison term at Abashiri Prison. The leader of the prison inmates secretly plans an escape and takes the man with him against his will. The 1st of the Abashiri Bangaichi series which made Ken Takakura a top star. ABASHIRI BANGAICHI AKU ENO CHOSEN Director: Teruo Ishii Cast: Ken Takakura, Kanjuro Arashi /1967 / 35mm/ Color / 90 min./ No English subtitles STORY: A man is invited to Fukuoka by the owner of a youth rehabilitation center, which he later joins. He then meets a youth and the two pledge a vow of law abiding brotherhood. However the youth is approached by his former gang and ordered to kill the boss of a rival gang. Filmed in Fukuoka. JINSEI GEKIJO: HISHAKAKU TO KIRATSUNE Director: Tomu Uchida Cast: Ken Takakura, Koji Tsuruta 1968 / 35mm/ Color / 109 min./ No English subtitles STORY: A and his woman come to where they are taken in by a gang boss. Indebted to the gang boss, is involved in a gang turf war, and is arrested. Out of prison 4 years later, he finds everything changed, including his woman… HIBOTAN BAKUTO Director: Kosaku Yamashita Cast: Junko Fuji, Ken Takakura /1968 / 16mm/ Color / 98 min./ No English subtitles STORY: With its boss murdered, a yakuza gang disbands. 5 years later, the murdered boss’ daughter is a skilled gambler. In Osaka she learns who killed her father and seeks revenge. The film which put Junko Fuji on the map of success as an actress. HIBOTAN BAKUTO HANAFUDA SHOBU Director: Tai Kato Cast: Junko Fuji, Ken Takakura /1969/ 16mm/ Color / 98 min. No English subtitles STORY: Oryu, the gambler, comes to stay with the Nishinomaru family in Nagoya, which is busy preparing for a gambling competition they have hosted for generations. Yet a rival family plots to take over the operation. Indebted to the Nishinomaru family, Oryu stands up to the rival family.
