Este artículo sostiene que: a) los sistemas económicos son una expresión de sus propias culturas e historias y, por lo tanto, no pueden exportarse a lugares donde la cultura local no apoya su implementación; b) la aplicación indiscriminada del modelo alemán (luterano) a todos los países europeos (principalmente a los países católicos mediterráneos) ha fomentado el crecimiento económico en la UE a diferentes velocidades; c) Italia, cuna del capitalismo católico, intenta actualmente reaccionar contra las medidas de austeridad, impuestas por las restricciones económicas del modelo alemán, centrándose en el tercer sector y en las empresas sin ánimo de lucro, que son expresión del capitalismo católico originado en la Tercera Orden Franciscana. This paper argues that: a) economic systems are an expression of their own cultures and histories and they cannot therefore be exported to places where the local culture does not support their implementation; b) the indiscriminate application of the German (Lutheran) model to all European countries (mainly to Mediterranean Catholic countries) has fostered economic growth in the EU at different speeds; c) Italy, the cradle of Catholic capitalism, is currently attempting to react against austerity measures –imposed by the economic constrictions of the German model– by focusing on the third sector and non-profit companies, which are an expression of Catholic capitalism originating in the Franciscan Third Order. Yocum This dissertation considers a spectrum of five distinct approaches that mid-twentieth century neo-Thomist Catholic thinkers utilized when engaging with the tradition of modern scientific psychology: a critical approach, a reformulation approach, a synthetic approach, a particular [Jungian] approach, and a personalist approach. This work argues that mid-twentieth century neo-Thomists were essentially united in their concerns about the metaphysical principles of many modern psychologists as well as in their worries that these same modern psychologists had a tendency to overlook the transcendent dimension of human existence. This work shows that the first four neo-Thomist thinkers failed to bring the traditions of neo-Thomism and modern psychology together to the extent that they suggested purely theoretical ways of reconciling them.

The first statement under- scores the importance of private property to the freedom and personal develop- ment of a person and declares that the right to personal property is a natural law. The second statement reminds us that God has destined the goods of this earth to the benefit of all people and nations, and, therefore, they must also be enjoyed by all. When either statement is divorced from the other, misunderstandings, controversies, or even ideologies easily result. This holds for the Catholic theory of society as well as for Protestant social ethics.     Dubrovnik Annals 11 (2007): 25-47 25 Original paper UDC 930.27 (497.5 Dubrovnik) OBLITI PRIVATORUM PUBLICA CURATE: A RAGUSAN POLITICAL EPIGRAPH AND ITS HISTORICAL BACKGROUND NELLA LONZA ABSTRACT: This article examines a Latin inscription Obliti privatorum publica curate from the Rector’s Palace in Dubrovnik. It affords basic co- ordinates for its dating, analyzes the message in the context of the Ragusan political epigraphy, and casts light upon an inscription in the Minor Council Hall, unknown until now. The maxim is being discussed as a theme and topos of diverse philosophical works, political speeches and sermons from antiquity (Plato and Cicero) to the Enlightenment, with emphasis on its reception and adaptation in the Ragusan milieu. On the basis of the identical inscriptions from the Basel Town Hall (H. Holbein the Younger, 1521/2) and Italian village of Lustrola (1690), the author concludes that this political adage did not stem from Dubrovnik, but was probably borrowed from a florilegium widely popular in Europe of the day.
