Civilian Exclusion Order No. 81

1. Pursuant to the provisions of Public Proclamations Nos. 1 and 2, this Headquarters, dated March 2, 1942, and March 16,1942, respectively, it is hereby ordered that from and after 12 o'clock noon, P. W. T., of Wednesday, May 20, 1942, all persons of Japanese ancestry, both alien and non-alien, be excluded from that portion of Military Area No.1 described as follows:

All of that portion of the City and County of San Francisco, State of California, within that boundary beginning at the inter­ section of Nineteenth Avenue and California Street; thence easterly on California Street to Presidio Avenue; thence south­ erly on Presidio Avenue to Geary Street; thence easterly on Geary Street to St. Joseph's Avenue; thence southerly on St. Joseph's Avenue to O'Farrell Street; thence easterly on O'Farrell Street to ; thence northerly on Van Ness Avenue to California Street; thence easterly on California Street to Market Street; thence northeasterly along Market Street to ; thence southerly and following the shoreline of San Francisco Bay to the southerly limits of the City and County of San Francisco; thence westerly along the said southerly limits to Junipero Serra ; thence northerly on a line established by Junipero Serra Boulevard, Worcester Avenue, and Nineteenth Avenue to the point of beginning, to­ gether with all other parts of the City and County of San Francisco, and all parts of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, State of California, not covered by previous Civilian Exclusion Orders of this Headquarters.

2. A responsible member of each family, and each individual living alone, in the above described area will re- , port between the hours of 8:00A.M. and 5:00P.M., Saturday, May 16,1942, or during the same hours on Sunday, May 17, 1942, to the Civil Control Station located at:

Raphael Weill School Auditorium, 1501 O'Farrell Street, San Francisco, California.

3. Any person subject to this order who fails to comply with any of its provisions or with the provisions of published instructions pertaining hereto or who is found in the above area after 12 o'clock noon, P. W. T., of Wednesday, May 20, 1942, will he liable to the criminal penalties provided by Public Law No. 503, 77th Congress, approved March 21, 1942, entitled "An Act to Provide a Penalty for Violation of Restrictions or Orders with Re­ speci to Persons Entering, Remaining in, Leaving or Committing Any Act in Military Areas or Zones," and alien Japanese will he subject to immediate apprehension and internment.

4. All persons within the hounds of an established Assembly Center pursuant to instructions from this Head­ quarters are excepted from the provisions of this order while those persons are in such Assembly Canter. J.LDeWITr Lieutenant General, U.S. Army Commanding
