International Day of Yoga -2020 Screening of PSA films, ‘Celebrities Speak…’ by Films Division
Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in India and practiced across the globe. The International Day of Yoga is celebrated on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. While recalling the importance of Yoga as an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition that embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Minister of India, in his UN address on 27 September 2014, suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.
On the occasion of International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21st June 2020, Films Division showcased public awareness films under title ‘Celebrities Speak…’, highlighting importance of Yoga for physical and mental well being. The multi lingual collage of 10 short films featuring celebrities from all over India were streamed on Films Division website and You Tube Channel.
In ‘Celebrities Speak’, renowned singer, Asha Bhosale and well known artists, Kabir Bedi, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Ramesh Aravind, Venkatesh, Rana Daggubati, Shiva Raj Kumar, Shivaji Satam, Sonali Kulkarni, Purnima Saikia, Ritabhari Chakraborty, cricketer Anil Kumble and many more shared their experience of how Yoga & Pranayam help to bring balance between body, soul and mind.
This year the IDY was celebrated amid the pandemic, COVID-19. The health enhancing and stress busting benefits of Yoga are especially more relevant than before in the prevailing situation. Adding to the theme of IDY 2020, “Yoga at Home, Yoga with Family”, Films Division exhorted people to practice Yoga regularly with the help of messages by celebrities from different walks of life..
The one-day online film festival on International Day of Yoga was well received and recorded 759 online viewerships. The eventl was covered by various print, electronic and social media as annexed. Films Division website
