Message 1. Rescued by Truth (8th)

Narrator 1(Nadia): Welcome everyone! Thank you for joining us to celebrate being “Rescued by Truth!” As we joyfully gather to honor Jesus’ birth, you can see there are a few among us not very happy. Let’s listen carefully to see if we can help them capture the true spirit of Christmas.

2 (6 students have marched in with shackles on their wrists, dressed in black robes and form a line across the front. The voice of Satan and the students is heard as each Prisoner steps forward. On the screens are shadows labeled Satan and Student)

Voice of Satan (Dain)(unseen): Hello, ______.

Voice of Student #1 (Joe): I just lied to my parents again. (laughing) I thought it was no big deal, but some of the lies grew to be really big ones which ended up hurting my other family members. And then I was disrespectful.

Prisoner #1(Tanner): I am guilty. (hands and head drop down when done talking)

Voice of Satan (unseen): And here we have ______.

Voice of Student #2 (Lainey): I made fun of other people and put them down. I crushed the confidence of those other girls! All the friends I betrayed .all the feelings hurt . … …

Prisoner #2 (Grace): I am guilty. (hands and head drop down when done talking)

Voice of Satan (unseen): And look here, if it isn’t ______.

Voice of Student #3 (Ella): I stole money from my brother when he was younger. Then later from my parents whenever I needed some extra cash and it led to recently stealing a new t-shirt.

Prisoner #3 (Elisabeth): I am guilty. (hands and head drop down when done talking)

Voice of Satan (unseen): And here is Mr. ______the wrestler!

Voice of Student #4(Trevor): I have been so focused on winning that nothing else matters. I have been self-centered!

Prisoner #4 (Jacob B): I am guilty. (hands and head drop down when done talking)

Voice of Satan (unseen): And ______, it is so good to see you. I need more quiet, timid Christians so the light cannot shine through.

Voice of Student #5 (Mya): I don’t say much to anyone because I am so scared of being rejected. I get tongue-tied and nervous so I don’t speak the Truth or even tell when I witness something wrong.

Prisoner #5 (Gracie): I am guilty. (hands and head drop down when done talking)

Voice of Satan (in black robe/hood with hidden face, standing still): Yes, everyone, welcome to the Truth revealed about these youth in front of you. People don’t realize how any sin can make a big difference in people’s lives. It warms my heart to have so many quality citizens working with me, to destroy people 3 and stomp out any light in this world. They are mine. (motion to the five in black robes) They listen to me and they work with me. With my guidance, they will help diminish light, crush hope and remove joy from this church and school. Yes, I have established a strong team to resist any changes . …

(Jesus enters down the center aisle, dressed in a white robe with arms extended.)

Jesus (Aiden): Fear not! Everyone! I have come! The Truth shall be revealed! They are MY children. I know them by name and they know me. (to Satan) You have no power or authority here. They have all been cleansed by my blood.

Voice of Satan: No-o-o-o-o-o! (whining) It’s not fair! (turns angry) You may be the victor and own their soul, but I can still steal joy and hope and love from their lives. I am the devil - I will not give up so easily.

Jesus: Be gone! (Jesus starts taking off the black robes and shackles of the youth. Under the black robe is a white robe. When Jesus is done speaking, all the youth are now dressed in white robes. Have two helpers in white robes, one to hold the shackles and one to hold the robes that Jesus will lay on their arms.)

Jesus: (The numbers listed represent which prisoner Jesus stands in front of while saying the line.) 1) You understand that all your sins have been washed away. 2.) That is why I died on the cross, so you may have eternal life. 3.) I stand between you and my Father and your sins are seen no more. 4.) As far as the west is from the east, so your sins have been removed from you. 5.) Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool, for I am your Savior! (to all prisoners) Now live as free believers. Celebrating new life in me! You have been rescued from sin and forgiveness is yours.

(Students look at their new garment, give high fives, hugs, pats on the back, etc. Jesus exits down center aisle.)

Prisoner #6 (Lauren) (Youth dressed in black robe comes from behind the altar. ) “Wait, who is that man that freed you? Can I be rescued too? I’ve been a prisoner far too long. How can I get to know Jesus?

Narrator 2(Max): Yes! We would love to tell you about Jesus! Wait until you hear this story! It’s the greatest story ever told, of Jesus’ love for you.

2. The Rescue Plan (6th)

Narrator 3 (Ethan) : The “Rescue Plan” was prophesied right after Adam and Eve sinned. Jesus came to earth because he knew his blood had to wash away the sins of every human being. He has rescued us from the punishment we deserve.

Narrator 4 (Andy): He’s like the greatest superhero to come and rescue us! Listen to the prophets tell of God’s rescue plan.

Prophet # 1 (Toby) - Isaiah 9:2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light: On those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.

Prophet # 2 (Andrew)- Isaiah 61:1-2a The Spirit of the Lord and King is on me. The Lord has anointed me to tell the good news to poor people. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts have been broken.

Prophet #3 (Charlie)- He has sent me to announce freedom for those who have been captured. He wants me to set prisoners free from their dark prisons. He has sent me to announce the year when he will set his people free!!!

Prophet # 4 (Matthew C)- Isaiah 11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord – and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

Prophet # 5 (Owen)- Isaiah 9:6 A child will be given to us. A son will be born. He will rule over us and he will be called Wonderful counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. The authority of his rule will continue to grow. The peace he brings will never end.

Prophet #6 (Brady)- Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. 5

Narrator 5 (Hudson): Listen to the words of the New Testament celebrating Jesus’ faithfulness to the rescue plan.

Prophet #7 (Hunter)– Luke 1:68 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel because he has come and has redeemed his people.

Prophet # 8 (Jayden)- He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David as he said through his holy prophets of long ago, salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us – to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days!!!

Narrator 6 (Calli): Because of God’s Mercy, he made a promise to us to rescue us from the devil and strengthen us to be able to serve him.

Narrator 7(Leah): Jesus did all that for us! He really is our superhero!! (take black robe and chains off last person)

Narrator 8(Bryan): It’s hard to imagine the depth of love Jesus has for us.

Narrator 9 (Simeon): I know, to come to earth knowing you were going to have to die and willingly following his Father’s rescue plan.

Narrator 10 (Noah): To think that the King of Kings, the Lord of Lord, the Son of God Almighty died for ME is very humbling. It makes me wonder how I could ever repay him for all he has done.

Narrator 11 (Livia ): That’s the pure beauty of God’s plan. Because of God’s great love for us .. all he wants in … return is our love for him.

Narrator 12 (Delaney): Then out of that great love for him grows this uncontrollable desire to share his love with others. That’s when we tell the good news of Jesus to everyone we know.

3. Truth is Born! (5th) nativity / Mary and Joseph

Narrator 13 (Caleb): Luke 2:1-7 In those days, Caesar Augustus made a law. It required that a list be made of everyone in the whole Roman world. It was the first time a list was made of the people while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be listed.

Narrator 14 (Piercen): So Joseph went also. He went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea. That is where Bethlehem, the town of David, was.

Narrator 15 (Nora): Joseph went there because he belonged to the family line of David. He went there with Mary to be listed. Mary was engaged to him. She was expecting a baby.

Narrator 16 (Amelia): While Joseph and Mary were there, the time came for the child to be born. She gave birth to her first baby. It was a boy. She wrapped him in large strips of cloth. Then she placed him in a manger. There was no room for them in the inn.

4. Following Truth (7th Gr) Shepherds

Narrator 17(Gabe): Luke 2:8-12 says, “There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby. It was night, and they were looking after their sheep.

Narrator 18(Ellyson): An angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them. They were terrified.

Narrator 19 (Allison): But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy. It is for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord. 7

Narrator 20 (Cayden S): Here is how you will know I am telling you the truth. You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manager.

Narrator 21(Alexa): Luke 2:15-20. The angels left and went into heaven. Then the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go the Bethlehem and see this great thing the Lord has done.

Narrator 22(Zak): So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and the baby. The baby was lying in the manger.

Narrator 23(JJ): After the shepherds had seen him, they told everyone. They reported what the angel had said about this child. All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

Narrator 24 (Cayden P): The shepherds returned. They gave glory and praise to God. Everything they had seen and heard was just as they had been told.

Song: Go Tell it on the Mountain Picked because it’s about the shepherds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxoejOJgtLI

(Gr. 6-8 -memorize) Refrain: (Congregation joins) 2 The shepherds feared and Go tell it on the mountain, trembled Over the hills and ev'rywhere; When lo, above the earth Go tell it on the mountain Rang out the angel chorus That Jesus Christ is born! That hailed our Savior's birth. [Refrain]

1 While shepherds kept their watching 3 Down in a lonely manger O'er silent flocks by night, The humble Christ was born; Behold, throughout the heavens And God set us salvation There shone a holy light. [Refrain] That blessed Christmas morn. [Refrain]

Narrator 25 (Natalie): The shepherds followed Jesus. They knew worshipping Jesus was the most important thing, so they left and followed him.

Student 1(Michael): So, you say we are to follow Jesus everyday, but what does that mean to me when I’m still a kid in 7th grade?

Narrator 26 (Madison): Let’s see if this helps you understand. Each day in school there are different crowds or groups to follow right?

Group: Yah I guess so sure … … …

Narrator 27 (Josie): Well, they influence you and some decisions you make. Is that correct?

Group: Sometimes .I suppose so .maybe . … … … 8

Narrator 28 (Austin): Let’s look at a couple of influences. Come on in, we have here the popular crowd trying to be like music superstars with the latest, greatest and coolest things.

( 3-4 4th graders walk across front- very dressed up, very trendy with new gadgets, in style. As they walk forward they chant together:) We are cool X, we are great X, Follow us, don’t hesitate. (repeat as needed)

Narrator 29 (Abby): Do they look familiar? You know the crowd. You know their influence and power over people at school. They are right now gossiping about people and laughing at others. Do you join in and follow them, or follow what Jesus would do and show love to everyone?

Narrator 30 (Trevor): Here’s group two .another strong influence ..the ones on the sports teams.. … …

(3-4 4th graders enter dressed in the favorite sporting gear. They walk to the right. As they do they chant:) Go team Go X Fight team Fight X Follow us for joy tonight!

Narrator 31 (Brandon): Talk about power to influence people. These are just a couple groups which you may choose to follow.

Student 1 (Michael): But what’s wrong with being popular or with being on the basketball team?

Narrator 32 (Matthew): Nothing is wrong with either one, but if they become too important to you, then it becomes wrong.

Narrator 33 (Sierra): We are not to follow false gods, and if you eat, sleep, talk, and walk music or sports or video games or anything else, then you are following the wrong path.

Student 1 (Michael): So you are saying to be careful who you follow for they may lead you into places you don’t want to go?

Narrator 34 (Jacob S): We are to follow Jesus’ example by being loving and kind to one another, bearing each other’s burdens. Look at these groups. Look at one another. As humans we are often NOT kind and loving towards each other. Instead we can be selfish and proud and think only of others.

Narrator 30 (Trevor): Following Jesus is a daily job and it is NOT natural to our human nature. It does get easier however, and when we keep our eyes focused on him, it can become automatic to follow in his footsteps.

5. Proclaiming Truth (4th Gr in groups of 2) Angels come

Nar. 36 (Phallyn & Paige): Luke 2:13-14 Suddenly a large group of angels from heaven also appeared. They were praising God. (response by all 4th graders) g.(Rachel & Parker Sh) To earth to wash our sins away! Jesus came to rescue me! h. (Paisley & Parker St) God’s love is great for you and me. Jesus came to rescue me! i. (Jeremy & Isabella) God’s rescue plan has set me free! Jesus came to rescue me!

6. Seeking Truth (5th Gr) wise men will come forward to the nativity

Narrator 37 (Colton): Matthew 2: 1-2 Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea. This happened while Herod was king of Judea.

Narrator 38 (Luke) : After Jesus birth, Wise Men from the east came to Jerusalem. They asked, “Where is the child who has been born to be king of the Jews? When we were in the east, we saw his star. Now we have come to worship him.

Narrator 39 (Darcy): They went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

Narrator 40 (Lilyana): On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.

Narrator 41 (Grayson) : Do you all realize the Wise Men searched for about two years for Jesus? They did not give up after a month or even a year, but kept seeking to find the King of Kings.

10 Narrator 42 (Dani): Jeremiah 29:13 tells us that You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Narrator 43 (Ethan): Seeking God is seeking His truth or searching for what God has to say about things. It is seeking His wisdom and guidance in making all decisions.

Narrator 44 (Will): We have a little quiz of True or False to show you what we mean. One person will make a statement and the group needs to answer either True or False. We then will give you the Bible verse to confirm the Truth from God’s Word. Go ahead with your first statement. (two people will hold up cards for the entire group to respond)

Narrator 55 (Rook): Following Jesus and doing what is right is too hard for me to do. FALSE!

Narrator 56 (Cody): Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength and power.

Narrator 57 (Carter): I have made so many mistakes and acted badly to my parents so many times, I don’t think I can change and Jesus. FALSE!

Narrator 58 (Max): Ephesians 5:8 You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of Light!

Narrator 59 (Claire) Great job!! You passed with flying colors! Continue to seek God’s Truth by studying the Bible. He has written it for us to learn to walk in His ways.
