Edition 2019 YEAR-END EDITION 2019 Global Headquarters Republic Records 1755 Broadway, New York City 10019 © 2019 Mediabase 1 REPUBLIC #1 FOR 6TH STRAIGHT YEAR UMG SCORES TOP 3 -- AS INTERSCOPE, CAPITOL CLAIM #2 AND #3 SPOTS For the sixth consecutive year, REPUBLIC is the #1 label for Mediabase chart share. • The 2019 chart year is based on the time period from November 11, 2018 through November 9, 2019. • All spins are tallied for the full 52 weeks and then converted into percentages for the chart share. • The final chart share includes all applicable label split-credit as submitted to Mediabase during the year. • For artists, if a song had split-credit, each artist featured was given the same percentage for the artist category that was assigned to the label share. REPUBLIC’S total chart share was 19.2% -- up from 16.3% last year. Their Top 40 chart share of 28.0% was a notable gain over the 22.1% they had in 2018. REPUBLIC took the #1 spot at Rhythmic with 20.8%. They were also the leader at Hot AC; where a fourth quarter surge landed them at #1 with 20.0%, that was up from a second place 14.0% finish in 2018. Other highlights for REPUBLIC in 2019: • The label’s total spin counts for the year across all formats came in at 8.38 million, an increase of 20.2% over 2018. • This marks the label’s second highest spin total in its history. • REPUBLIC had several artist accomplishments, scoring three of the top four at Top 40 with Ariana Grande (#1), Post Malone (#2), and the Jonas Brothers (#4). Shawn Mendes also garnered a top 10 finish at #8. • Drake and Post Malone were the top 2 respectively at Rhythmic, with Ariana Grande at #6. • Drake also landed the #1 artist slot at Urban. • Taylor Swift scored the #2 spot at Hot AC and #3 at AC. • Swift, the Jonas Brothers (#3), Dean Lewis (#9), and Ariana Grande (#10) gave REPUBLIC four spots in the Top 10 at Hot AC. © 2019 Mediabase 2 INTERSCOPE had another stellar year, landing at #2 overall for the second straight year, and top 3 for a third consecutive year. • INTERSCOPE had 12.7% of the overall label share. • There are nine formats that count toward the total share. INTERSCOPE had the most top 3 finishes of any label in 2019, doing so in eight of the nine formats. • INTERSCOPE ranked #1 at AC and Triple A, #2 at Urban, Urban AC, and Alternative, and #3 at Top 40, Rhythmic, and Hot AC. On the artist front, a veteran act took the top spot: • Maroon 5 captured the #1 artist spot at AC and was #7 Hot AC. • Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper landed the #4 slot at AC. • Ella Mai was #1 at Urban AC and #7 Urban. • Billie Eilish was #3 at Alternative and #9 Top 40. • DaBaby scored the #4 spot at Urban. Turning to big hits, INTERSCOPE had several in 2019: • “Eastside” by Benny Blanco featuring Halsey and Khalid was #5 at on the Big Picture chart, #2 at Top 40, and #6 at Hot AC. • DaBaby nabbed the #3 slot at Urban with “Suge.” • Ella Mai’s “Trip” was the #1 song of 2019 at Urban AC, while “Boo’ed Up” finished the year at #5. • INTERSCOPE also scored the top two songs for the year at AC with Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You” at #1 and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” at #2. Universal Music Group had the top three labels for chart share in 2019, as Hollywood, CA based CAPITOL RECORDS moved into the top 3 this year. CAPITOL has improved in each of the past four years, going 3.0%-6.1%-8.2%-11.6%. © 2019 Mediabase 3 CAPITOL continued to make great strides, up 43% in chart label share from 2018, after improving 34% from 2017. • CAPITOL took the #2 spot at Top 40, moving from 8.3% to 14.0% — a huge jump of 68% from last year. • The label increased their share at Rhythmic (8.3%-8.7%) and landed in the #6 slot. • CAPITOL moved from 5th to 4th at Urban (10.2%-11.9%), while remaining in the #3 spot for the second year in-a-row at Urban AC. • The label jumped into the top 5 at AC, moving 5.2%-7.7%. • At Hot AC, CAPITOL soared from the sixth slot to #2 (8.3%-15.5%) — a gain of 87% in market share. • CAPITOL also moved into the top 3 at Alternative, moving from #6 last year and rising from 6.9%-9.2%. On the artist and song front, big contributions came from a number of key artists: • Halsey’s “Without Me” was the #1 song of the year at Top 40, and #2 at Big Picture and Hot AC. • Marshmello’s “Happier,” featuring Bastille was a multi-format smash, ranking 3rd on the Big Picture chart, while claiming the #6 spot at Top 40, and #3 at both Hot AC and Alternative. • Lil Baby & Gunna’s “Drip Too Hard” was the #1 song for the year at Urban, and Lil Baby’s “Close Friends” landed in the #8 slot. • Sam Smith & Normani’s “Dancing With A Stranger” ranked seventh on the Big Picture chart, was top 5 at Top 40, and #9 at Hot AC. • Maggie Rogers “Light On” was #8 at Triple A. • Halsey was the #6 Most Played Artist at Top 40 and #5 at Hot AC. • Lil Baby was the seventh Most Played Artist at Rhythmic and #9 at Urban. • Other top 10 Most Played Artists for CAPITOL included City Girls #6 at Urban, and Queen Naija #3 at Urban AC. • Finally, finishing the year with a flourish, CAPITOL’S chart year concluded with the multi-format #1 “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi. © 2019 Mediabase 4 ATLANTIC finished #4 in 2019, scoring double digit shares again at 10.9%. • ATLANTIC took the #1 position at Urban with a 16.7% chart share, • The label drove a lot of the same artist success over to Rhythmic, where they finished a strong #2 with their highest share of any format at 17.1%. • ATLANTIC landed the #2 slot at Active Rock with an 11.5% chart share. • The label also scored top 5 finishes at AC (#4), and #5 at Top 40 and Urban AC. ATLANTIC, always has a very balanced roster among genres, and 2019 was no exception. • Cardi B was the #2 Most Played Artist at Urban and #4 at Rhythmic. • Meek Mill was #3 at Urban and #8 at Rhythmic. • ATLANTIC had two additional artists that scored the #2 Most Played Artists spots: Ed Sheeran at AC, and Shinedown at Active Rock. ATLANTIC had a number of hits where they split share credit, and these songs turned out to be massive hits in 2019: • Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber’s “I Don’t Care” was #9 on the Big Picture and Top 40 charts, and #8 at Hot AC. • Meek Mill & Drake’s “Going Bad” nabbed #2 at Urban and #5 at Rhythmic. • Death Cab For Cutie’s “Northern Lights” was #2 at Triple A. • Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” carried through most of 2019 at AC and landed in the #3 slot. • Cardi B’s “Money” was #4 at Urban. • A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s “Look Back At It” was #6 at Rhythmic. • Gucci Mane’s “Wake Up In The Sky,” featuring Bruno Mars and Kodak Black was #7 at Rhythmic. • Shinedown and Rival Sons both had songs in the top 10 at Active Rock, #4 and #9 respectively. • Matt Maeson’s “Cringe” was #7 at Alternative. © 2019 Mediabase 5 RCA rounds out the top 5 with a 9.3% overall. • RCA saw growth at the Top 40 format, where they climbed from #6 last year to #4 in 2019 (8.0%-10.5%) – a gain of 33%. • RCA scored the #1 spot at Urban AC, with an 18.2%. • The label finished 4th at Hot AC, Alternative and Triple A, #5 at Rhythmic and #6 at Urban and AC. The label’s field of artists had another big year on the Most Played Artists charts: • Khalid ranked #3 at Top 40 and Rhythmic, and #10 at Urban AC. • Grammy winner H.E.R. came in second at Urban AC. • P!nk was #4 at Hot AC, as well as #5 at AC. • Cage The Elephant landed the #6 position at both Alternative and Triple A. On the song front, Chris Brown’s “No Guidance,” featuring Drake was split credit. “No Guidance” went to #1 six different times on the Rhythmic chart in 2019, setting an all-time record. The song finished as the #9 song of the year at the format, and was still #2 at year’s end. “No Guidance” also ranked as the #7 most played song at Urban. • Khalid’s “Talk” was #4 Big Picture, #10 Top 40, #3 Rhythmic, and #6 at Urban AC. • Khalid’s “Better” was #8 at Rhythmic. • H.E.R. had two of the top three songs at Urban AC with “Focus” at #2 and “Could’ve Been,” featuring Bryson Tiller at #3. • P!nk’s “Walk Me Home” slotted at #10 at both AC and Hot AC. • Flora Cash’s “You’re Somebody Else” finished in the top 5 for the year at Alternative and Triple A.
