Rcpsych Wales 2020 Highlights Report. 2020 Has Been a Year Full of Challenges, a Year Full of Adaptation
RCPsych Wales 2020 Highlights Report. 2020 has been a year full of challenges, a year full of adaptation. It felt right to highlight some of the achievements, and reflect on the strength shown by the Psychiatry community in Wales. We hope you enjoy this short report. Dr Clementine Maddock, Vice-Chair Ollie John, Manager Royal College of Psychiatrists Wales In July, Prof Keith Lloyd came to the end of his term of office as Chair of RCPsych Wales, and was succeeded by Dr Maria Atkins. We owe a great deal to Keith and he departed on the announcement of several further notable achievements: Wales saw the highest % of members attaining fellowship across any region of the UK, and the highest % of members voting for the RCPsych presidential elections. In 2019 and 2020, Wales has achieved an 100% fill rate into core training, and between 2019 and 2020, Wales achieved the highest fill rate for specialty training across the UK at 92%. Whilst a number of projects initiated and overseen during his tenure are littered throughout this report, we’ll be issuing a report on his full term of office in February. Thank you Keith and welcome Maria Recognition Wales saw much recognition at this year's RCPsych Annual Awards, the first virtual award ceremony that the College has held. CWTCH Cymru won RCPsych Team of the Year in recognition for there work in Sustainability. Veryan Richards was awarded a presidential medal for her work in advocating the patient representative voice. Prof Sir Mike Owen, Cardiff University, was awarded an honorary fellowship in recognition of this work in neuroscience. -

Learned Society of Wales Response Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee Consultation – A Stronger Voice for Wales September 2017 1. The Learned Society of Wales (LSW) is an independent, all-Wales, self-governing, pan-discipline educational charity that was established in 2010. As Wales’s first National Academy of science and letters, the Learned Society of Wales, like similar societies in Ireland and Scotland, brings together the most successful and talented Fellows connected with Wales, for the shared purpose and common good of advancing and promoting excellence in all scholarly discipline across Wales. 2. The Learned Society of Wales welcomes this opportunity to submit comment to the Stronger Voice for Wales consultation. 3. Relations between Westminster/Whitehall and Cardiff of necessity assumed greater importance following devolution. The need for a better system of consultation and coordination grew with successive Government of Wales Acts. This development of devolution has increased the requirement for better functioning inter-governmental mechanisms. 4. In practice the process of consultation and coordination has been patchy. The lack of a coherent strategic approach to devolution hampered progress from the beginning. Additionally there was a tendency, still sometimes discernible, for parts of Whitehall to be reluctant to cede competence to devolved administrations, and even to seek to claw back powers which had been devolved. That risk is now in sharp focus in the draft EU Withdrawal Bill which by legislating for a retained EU law element would reduce and limit the exercise of powers already devolved to Wales. Additionally the public statements of some Ministers in London show scant regard or knowledge of the UK’s constitutional arrangements. -

NHS WALES COVID 19 OPERATING FRAMEWORK - QUARTER 2 (20/21) 1. PURPOSE In line with the shorter planning cycles that we have agreed for 20/21, the purpose of this document is to provide the NHS with an Operating Framework for Q2 and a look ahead to the rest of the year. This framework will build on the themes and principles from Q1, based on a “proceed with caution” approach and will continue to focus on the four harms; 2. CONTEXT There have been a number of developments since the publication of the Operating Framework Guidance for Q 1. In Wales lockdown measures are being eased in a steady and cautious approach, in line with the Welsh Government’s recovery plan, focused on maintaining and controlling the Rt value. In parallel with this, the Test, Trace, Protect Programme has been launched across Wales to improve access to testing and contact tracing to help contain and isolate the virus. Health Boards, Local Authorities, NWIS, Public Health Wales and our military colleagues have been working hard to implement this at scale and pace and this will continue to develop and evolve in Q2. From an NHS perspective, although our understanding of the virus is improving there is still a high degree of uncertainty in the months ahead. This will continue to make planning challenging as we interpret modelling, and as evidence about the virus requires us to continually update guidance and policies in this area at pace. Since the first COVID-19 peak in April the NHS in Wales has been developing and implementing its plans for a dual track approach to delivery of services across all care settings. -

Daines Barrington, in his preface to his first edition of the work, published in 1770, has well said, "The MS. hath, for above.a cent~ry, been so prized in North Wales, that many in those parts have thought it worth while to make fair and complete transcripts of it." Of these transcripts the earliest known to exist is one in the Library at Brogyntyn. It was probably written within 45 years of the death of the author; but besides that, it contains a great number of notes and additions of nearly the same date, which have never yet appeared in print. The History of the Gwydir Family has been thrice published. The first editiun, edited by the Hon. Daines Barrington, issued from the press in 1770. The second was published in Mr. -

04 Guy_Studia Celtica 50 06/12/2016 09:34 Page 69 STUDIA CELTICA, L (2016), 69 –105, 10.16922/SC.50.4 A Lost Medieval Manuscript from North Wales: Hengwrt 33, The Hanesyn Hên BEN GUY Cambridge University In 1658, William Maurice made a catalogue of the most important manuscripts in the library of Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt, in which 158 items were listed. 1 Many copies of Maurice’s catalogue exist, deriving from two variant versions, best represented respec - tively by the copies in Aberystwyth, National Library of Wales [= NLW], Wynnstay 10, written by Maurice’s amanuenses in 1671 and annotated by Maurice himself, and in NLW Peniarth 119, written by Edward Lhwyd and his collaborators around 1700. 2 In 1843, Aneirin Owen created a list of those manuscripts in Maurice’s catalogue which he was able to find still present in the Hengwrt (later Peniarth) collection. 3 W. W. E. Wynne later responded by publishing a list, based on Maurice’s catalogue, of the manuscripts which Owen believed to be missing, some of which Wynne was able to identify as extant. 4 Among the manuscripts remaining unidentified was item 33, the manuscript which Edward Lhwyd had called the ‘ Hanesyn Hên ’. 5 The contents list provided by Maurice in his catalogue shows that this manuscript was of considerable interest. 6 The entries for Hengwrt 33 in both Wynnstay 10 and Peniarth 119 are identical in all significant respects. These lists are supplemented by a briefer list compiled by Lhwyd and included elsewhere in Peniarth 119 as part of a document entitled ‘A Catalogue of some MSS. -

When the first productions moved into Roath Lock in September 2011, they fulfilled a BBC commitment to create a centre of excellence for Drama in Cardiff. Located in Porth Teigr, Cardiff Bay, the 170,000 square foot facility, including nine studios and equivalent in length to three football pitches, is now the permanent, purpose-built home of four flagship BBC dramas - Casualty, Pobol y Cwm, Doctor Who - as well as new productions in the future. Job Description Sound Assistants are a member of the Production Sound Crew and provide general back up and support to the Production Sound Mixer and the Boom Operator. They are responsible for checking all stock, microphones and batteries and making sure that the sound department runs as smoothly as possible. Although the work is physically demanding, the hours are long and are sometimes performed on location in extreme terrain and/or severe weather the work can be very rewarding. Sound Assistants usually begin work early arriving on set half at least an hour before call time, with the rest of the Sound Crew. They help to unload the sound van, and working with the Boom Operator, check that all equipment is prepared and fully operational.
