Ahlam The Female Gulf Star

Fans call her “The Star of the Gulf” and according to famous Saudi singer Mohamad Abdo, she is an Arab superstar. Her name is Ahlam Al Shamsi and her powerful voice has captivated audiences in the Gulf and across the Arab world for years.

She was born in 1969 in Al Bsayteen village in Muharak, Bahrain. Growing up, she was musically influenced by her father and local artist, Ali Al Shamsi. At an early age, Ahlam began singing at weddings and ceremonies, where Kuwaiti music composer Anwar Abdullah first discovered her talent. She went on to sign a contract with Fonoon Emarat Productions and Abdullah composed music for her debut “Ahlam 95 (Ahebak Mot)’’. With the success of her album, Ahlam produced 5 music videos.

In all, Ahlam has released ten with the latest being “Hatha Ana” in 2009. This album, which includes 14 songs ranging from classical to pop hits, has stayed at the top of the charts for 11 months.

Ahlam has been a regular guest at Arab music festivals, including Hala Febrayer and Febrayer Nights in Kuwait, the Arab Song Festival in Qatar, Muscat and Salala Khareef Festivals in Oman and other events in Bahrain. Her performance at the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts in Jordan is still remembered today for catapulting her career and resonating with Jordanian audiences.

Recently, Ahlam joined the judging panel of the hit TV talent show, Arab Idol. Her presence attracted large audiences and left them eagerly awaiting the next season.
