Philadelphia, PA— MOVIES UNLIMITED TUNES INTO RADIO OFFERING AUDIO PROGRAMS OF CLASSIC MOVIES AND TV SHOWS ON CD
Movies Unlimited, one of the world’s top video retailers, is proud to present a series of rare vintage radio programs on audio CD in which movies and TV shows featuring famous stars are dramatized. The Radio’s Golden Age series, which retail for $9.99 each and feature original commer- cials of the era, is comprised of scores of exciting, dramatic and funny radio programs from the 1930s to the 1950s. Most of the programs run about 60 minutes and, in many cases, were originally broadcast on the “Lux Radio Theater.” In several programs, the stars of the original movies were recruited to play the same role in their audio versions. So, we have Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert performing in a 1930 broadcast of It Happened One Night; Al Jolson in a 1947 version of the landmark sound film The Jazz Singer; Ginger Rogers repeating her Oscar-winning part as Kitty Foyle; and Cary Grant returning as Mr. Lucky for radio enthusiasts. In addition, different performers were recruited for some of the radio programs bringing their own unique talents to famous roles. For example, Charlton Heston takes over the lead role Marlon Brando originated in a 1951 version of Viva Zapata! Greer Garson steps into Katherine Hepburn’s shoes for The African Queen. And Alan Ladd and Hedy Lamaar perform the roles Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman made famous in the 1944 radio edition of Casablanca. Also offered are such radio and TV favorites asDragnet with Jack Webb as Sgt. Joe Friday, Gunsmoke starring William Conrad as Marshal Matt Dillon and The Lone Ranger boasting Earle Graser as the masked hero.
