This quirky film gives us constant comedy, a great sound track full of 70’s rock and pop music and some surprisingly heartfelt moments scattered throughout. In his breakthrough role, Parks and Recreation actor Chris Pratt plays the main character Peter Quill, who has nicknamed himself Starlord. Star Trek star Zoe Saldana plays Gamora, a fiery green alien who has been surgically enhanced to be the perfect weapon. Bradley Cooper voices the rambunctious and foul-mouthed cybernetic raccoon named Rocket. Vin Diesel plays a lovable tree alien named Groot. Finally breakthrough actor and former wrestler Dave Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer, a vengeful brute with a personal vendetta against the main villain, . In this crazy adventure, these five outlaws get together to stop Ronan in his endeavors to destroy the galaxy, making them the guardians of the galaxy. Although their journey gets off to a somewhat rocky start, what with being thrown in jail and fighting amongst themselves, eventually all five misfits band together and work to defeat their foe for the good of the galaxy. Then three of the five girls in the group all shared that we also were pastor’s daughters. We had hidden this from the people closest to us for months trying to run away from the perfection and rebellion boxes people would put us into. Keep up with social media? So do we. Here I was, for months, surrounded by people who were sharing the exact same experiences as me, and we were all frightened of the weight the title “pastor’s daughter” bestowed upon us. As our small group began to share with others that yes, in fact, our dads are pastors, I’m disappointed to say that on multiple occasions I was met with disbelief from others. Some of the reactions were sadly responses I had heard many times before: “There’s no way, you’re not crazy enough.” “What? I would have never guessed. So have you stolen anything?” Or even, “So do you secretly have a lot of tattoos?” Although these examples are clearly just the extreme responses it does not dilute the fact that these are questions coming from people who have known me for months. These people had seen my daily life, and yet they were still putting me into a box. Photos I think it really speaks to the power of the title that only months into college in the safety of a few confidants did our small group of pastor’s daughters finally reveal our identity. Although there are a Comments lot of joys of being a pastor’s daughter and hilarious experiences only a lucky few get to have in their Breaking News lifetime, it’s a great disappointment that we are put into these two boxes.
