APPENDIX C – Focus Group Report Thomas Memorial Library Cape Elizabeth, Maine A total of 103 residents and eight staff members participated in one of ten focus group discussions held the week of August 4 th . Themes that emerged across multiple sessions were: • People like and use Minerva. • The entryway is cramped and unwelcoming. • People want to be greeted when they enter the library; often that doesn’t happen. • Lack of handicapped access to multiple levels is a hindrance to library use; perhaps it keeps people with mobility challenges from coming to the library at all. • There are limited places in the library to sit and read—in both the adult and children’s areas. • People like/love the Thomas Memorial Library, but many don’t spend much time there. • Study spaces are needed. • Restrooms are needed in the children’s area. • Adult, children’s, and teen areas are cramped. • The current meeting room space is cramped and unattractive. • A larger, more inviting, technologically equipped meeting room is needed. • Having the library, Historical Society, and Arts Council in the same facility is good, but all three need more space. • The Historical Society and Arts Council need display space for 3 dimensional art/artifacts as well as “flat” art. • Friends need a larger, improved book sale space. • People think the current location is good. • Any new, remodeled facility should retain the look and feel of the Town Center; it should blend in. • Any new, remodeled facility should be green, or largely so. • Participants were mixed in their opinions about making the school libraries and public library into one facility. -

Katherine Acheson gave essential advice on the introduction. 4 Introduction From the beginning of the Reformation in 1517, philology was a crucial element of Protestant thought. Sola scriptura, “the scripture alone” was a Reformation slogan, and the nature of that scripture was defined in philological terms. Luther used Erasmus’s edition of the Greek New Testament with a revised Latin translation in an effort to reach the sources of biblical thought. When Luther understood the original languages well enough, he translated the text into German for the common reader. William Tyndale followed his example in English, laying the foundations for most of our King James Version. -

It was the 15th BR in Germany and the first of its kind in the Land of Baden-Württemberg. UNESCO BR Schwäbische Alb After a brief preparatory process of just three years, there are now 29 towns and municipalities, three administrative districts, two government regions, as well as Mountain range the federal republic of Germany (Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben) as owner of the former army training ground in Münsingen involved in the BR, which covers Low mountain range 850 km2 and has a population of ca. 150 000. Country Germany Location The low mountain range of the Swabian Alb be- longs to one of the largest karst areas in Germany. In the northeast it continues in the Franconian Alb and towards the southwest in the Swiss Jura. In Baden- Württemberg the Swabian Alb is a characteristic major landscape. For around 100 km, a steep escarpment of the Swabian Alb, the so-called Albtrauf, rises 300 – 400 metres above the foothills in the north. The Albtrauf links into the plateau of the Swabian Alb, which pre- sents a highly varied, crested relief in the north, while mild undulations dominate in the southern part. The Swabian Alb forms the European watershed between Rhine and Danube. -

William Tyndale
This article is based on an extended video-recorded interview with Tyndale Biographer Professor David Daniell and is abridged and edited for this DVD. Childhood William Tyndale was born about 1494 in the county to the west of Britain called Gloucester, which is on the border of Wales; a wonderful rich county, very beautiful still. Through it runs a river, big by British standards, called the River Severn which flows to a port called Bristol from which ships went all over the world in Tyndale’s time. From an early age, Tyndale was privileged to attend a very fine and famous school at a nearby town where among other things he would learn very good Latin, the language of scholars throughout Europe and the language of the Church. From there he proceeded to the University of Oxford when he was about 12 years of age and there he remained for 10 years. Life at Oxford Life as an Oxford student would consist of listening to lectures and reading books. But unlike books today, the books Tyndale would have studied from would have been handwritten, as there weren’t many printed books in existence and they were very scarce and very private. The two most significant things about his time in Oxford were first, that he became passionately interested in the Scriptures. (Oddly enough the Scriptures were not studied there even though he was supposed to be doing theology.) And the second most significant occurrence was that while he was at Oxford the New Testament was printed in the original Greek for the first time by a wonderful European scholar named Erasmus. -
