A comparative study study of Thomas Hobbes . John Locke and J.J. Rousseau on Origin of State, Sovereignty and Right, Social Contract Theories. 3. Montesquieu: History and View of Montesquieu, Practical effects of the theory, Criticism of the Theory of separation of power.

MODERN POLITICAL THOUGHT 1. Jeremy Bentham: Utilitarianism, Political and Legal Reforms. 2. J.S. Mill: Utilitarianism, Liberty, Representative Government, Political Reform. 3. Analysis of Utilitarianism.

UNIT-III

MODERN POLITICAL THOUGHT 1. Fredrick Hegel: Dialectical Method, Theory of state. 2. Karl Marx: Dialectical Materialism, Class struggle, socialism and withering away of state. 3. Gandhism and Sarvodaya: Non-violence (Ahimsa) and Satyagraha, Gandhiji’s influence on Modern India, Comparison and Contrast between Gandhism and Marxism, Sarvodaya.
