    October 08 to 15, 2011 Marco Bruzzone Colli Opening: October 08, 2011, 7pm Galleria collicaligreggi is proud to present the first solo show by Marco Bruzzone in Italy. Marco Bruzzone has lived for more than ten years in Berlin, where he works as an artist as well as curator, cook and DJ. His artistic practice is interdisciplinary – many of his works are of a transitory nature, such as a meeting or collaboration with other artists, and often become visible only at certain moments. In 2007, Bruzzone used stencils to spray the phrase “Less is cool“ on the wall just above the floor of the exhibition space (The importance not to be seen, Café Moskau/Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin 2007). Instead of spray paint, however, he used spray glue. The statement first became legible over the course of time as dust collected in the room. Marco Bruzzone’s diverse works are unified by a sense of lightness and reduction, as well as a consistent rejection of grand artistic gestures. At galleria collicaligreggi the artist presents his new project Colli [engl. necks], which deals with the change of seasons from hot summer to autumn. In his installation of images, music, poetry and flowers, Bruzzone examines the shift from a time of leisurely distraction to the reality of everyday life. For the exhibition he stretched beach towels across frames like canvases: through their differing wear and tear and their printed or woven motifs they recall personal and collective memories. For some time now, Bruzzone has addressed issues of painting, examining its surface structures and forms of representation with unusual materials.

    IshDARR brings a crowd Photo by Jun Taek Lee A packed crowd gathered in Gardner on Friday, Nov. 6, to hear from three young hip-hop artists—Young Eddy, Kweku Collins and IshDARR (pictured to the left). IshDARR is based out of Milwaukee, Wis. The sharp-tongued 19- year-old released a critically acclaimed album, “Old Soul, Young Spirit,” earlier this year. He largely pulled material from that album during the performance. The youthful, ecstatic energy of his recorded material transferred seamlessly to the stage. IshDARR was totally engaging for the duration of the set and did not shy away from talking with the audience, eliciting laughter and cheers. It wasn’t a terribly long set, but one that kept the people in attendance rapt from start to finish. Milwaukee is an exciting place to be an MC in 2015. The Midwestern city has recently cultivated a vibrant and dynamic DIY hip hop scene that’s only getting larger. IshDaRR, one of the youngest and most prominent members of the scene, proved on Friday night that he’s got a lot to share with the world. Assuredly, he is only getting started. Friday night was the third time that Young Eddy, aka Greg Margida ’16, has performed on campus and he is sure to have more performances next semester. Kweku Collins hails from Evanston, Ill., and this was his first time performing in Grinnell.     PALCO DAS MARÉS | 21 DE AGOSTO, DOMINGO Diferentes desde o primeiro dia. Tem sido uma das características dos Expensive Soul não só na música que criam mas também na atitude que dedicam ao que fazem. A estreia, por exemplo, foi ao contrário do que é normal em Portugal. O disco “B.I.” viu a luz do dia no circuito independente da auto‐edição e caminhou sozinho, conquistando os “media” mais exigentes (incluído na lista dos 30 melhores discos portugueses do ano pelo Blitz e pela Antena 3); ou seja, já era um sucesso quando foi albergado no catálogo de uma editora instituída como a EMI. Para trás ficavam 5 anos de trabalho em que 2 amigos de escola resolveram transformar a sua paixão por música… em música. New Max e Demo acabaram por pôr Leça da Palmeira no mapa musical português e focar os olhos e ouvidos de uma inteira nação musical nesta freguesia do concelho de Matosinhos, de onde mais tarde viriam a sair os Mundo Secreto e os Souls On Fire. 1999‐2004 ‐ As primeiras “demo tapes” surgiram em 1999 e uma delas recebeu apoio massivo do rádio‐guru português do “hip‐hop”, José Mariño. Vencedor de um concurso de talentos lançado pelo realizador da Antena 3 no seu programa de domingo à noite, o duo foi convidado a abrir uma digressão de Kika Santos, a ex‐Blackout e Loopless. Na altura os Expensive Soul levavam as bases instrumentais num Mini Disc ou em discos e foi aqui que Demo e New Max sentiram a força e a diferença que uma banda suporte podia fazer ao projecto.
