She recently appeared as The Queen in a new production of Křenek’s Das geheime Königreich at Oper Frankfurt, a thrilling performance the Frankfurter Allgemeine called “a mixture of Zerbinetta, Kundry, and Lady Macbeth.” In the 2018-2019 season, Ambur will join the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt singing leading roles of her repertoire in exciting new productions. Recently, Ambur returned to the Canadian Opera Company as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte conducted by Bernard Labadie and a highly-acclaimed portrayal of Dalinda in Richard Jones’s production of Ariodante conducted by Johannes Debus. She made her UK debut as a formidable Queen of the Night in Simon McBurney's production of The Magic Flute at the English National Opera, a role she also sang for Calgary Opera and her German debut at Oper Frankfurt. -

ANNICK MASSIS Soprano Acclaimed worldwide as one of the greatest sopranos and one of the most versatile singers of our time, Annick Massis has appeared in celebrated productions in the most prestigious opera houses in Europe, including Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, Madrid’s Teatro Real, Switzerland’s Grand Théâtre de Genève and Opernhaus Zürich, the famed Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna, Berlin’s Deutsche Oper and Philarmonie, Brussels’ La Monnaie, and Concertgebow in Amsteram. In the United States, Miss Massis has sung at the illustrious Metropolian Opera and in Avery Fisher Hall in New York, at the Pittsburgh Opera, and in Washington, D.C. Egykor ünnepelt, briliáns tehetségű énekművészek, „istennők”, „prima donna assoluták” voltak, kiknek lábai előtt hevert koruk zeneértő és -rajongó közönsége, aztán mintha homokba íródtak volna ezek a nevek, úgy vesztek el szépen lassan a feledés homályában. Művészek fényben és árnyékban… Köztudott, hogy a háború után a szinte tömeghisztériává duzzasztott „sztárcsinálás” éppen akkoriban élte reneszánszát, s olyan ikonokat nevelt ki, mint például az „angyali hangú” Renata Tebaldi vagy a „tigrisasszony” Maria Callas, kiknek neve s művészete, mint egyfajta cégér mind a mai napig garancia a legtökéletesebb minőségre. Az utókor a helyes megítélés tekintetében viszont sok esetben hálátlannak és felettébb méltánytalannak bizonyul, hiszen a „sztárok” árnyékában működött „másod-élvonalbelieknek” bélyegzett énekesnők sokszor éppen akkora tömegeket vonzottak, mint nagyobb celebritással bíró kolléganőik. -
