One of the primary pharmacological treatments for anxiety and depression is the antidepressant fluoxetine (Flx). Maternal stress, depression, and Flx exposure are known to effect neurodevelopment of the offspring; however, their combined effects have been scarcely studied. In this thesis, we examine the combined effects of maternal stress during pregnancy and perinatal exposure to Flx on the behaviour and the biochemical outcomes of mice as adults.

It explores the creative aspects of thinking and learning through literature, writing, and word play, drawing connections between English and other content areas. Theory and practical applications meet in the book, linking activities and resources to current classroom concerns--to multiculturalism, imagination in reading and writing, critical thinking, and expanding language experiences. The first part of the book examines the uses of metaphor in constructing meaning. The second part takes up issues related to multiple perspectives--using metaphors to experience other lives, and exploring cultures through traditions. The third part of the book is devoted to a consideration of the history and current status of the English language and focuses on using cross-cultural stories in the English classroom, offering a number of resources for teaching multicultural literature in English. The fourth part examines the sensory Ixperience of metaphors by seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touching with the imagination.

  • John Biggart the Rehabilitation of Bogdanov1
John Biggart The Rehabilitation of Bogdanov 1 Between 1985 and 1991 the Communist Party of the Soviet Union under its General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev lifted restrictions on freedom of expression in the Soviet Union, virtually abolished censorship of the press, and set in motion the reform process which in August 1991 would bring about the ending of Communist Party rule. 2 One of the objectives of Gorbachev’s policy of glasnost’ was to encourage more free enquiry into the history of the Soviet régime, and, in particular, to dissociate the Party from many of Stalin’s policies of the late 1920s to 1950s. 3 In the evolution of this policy, the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution, was a landmark. 4 Following the Plenum of the Central 1 This is an edited version of the Introduction to: Bogdanov and his Work. A guide to the published and unpublished works of Alexander A. Bogdanov (Malinovsky 1973—1928) , edited by John Biggart, Georgii Gloveli and Avraham Yassour. Ashgate. 1998. [ISBN 1 85972 6321 2]. The introduction has not been updated to take account of the substantive amount of work that has been published on Bogdanov since 1998. Only in a few instances have later works been referred to for purposes of correction or clarification. 2 On the abolition of censorship, see Richard Sakwa, Gorbachev and his reforms 1985-1990 (London, New York, 1990), p.67. The Main Administration of Literature and State Publishing - Glavlit - lost its censorship functions in June 1986. 3 As early as September 1985, Professor Yuri Afanasiev of the Institute of World History of the Academy of Sciences was able to denounce the turpitude of the historical profession in the Communist Party journal Kommunist .

Cover photo credits: EIRNS/Stuart Lewis and Philip Ulanowsky INTRODUCTION For the Exoneration of the Most Beautiful Soul in American History by Helga Zepp-LaRouche There is no one in the history of the United States to my knowledge, for whom there is a greater discrep- ancy between the image crafted by the neo-liberal establishment and the so-called mainstream media, through decades of slanders and co- vert operations of all kinds, and the actual reality of the person himself, than Lyndon LaRouche. And that is saying a lot in the wake of the more than two-year witch hunt against President Trump. The reason why the complete exoneration of Lyn- don LaRouche is synonymous with the fate of the United States, lies both in the threat which his oppo- nents pose to the very existence of the U.S.A. as a republic, and thus for the entire world, it system, the International Development Bank, which and also in the implications of his ideas for America’s fu- he elaborated over the years into a New Bretton Woods ture survival.
