In addition, any quotation or extract must include full attribution. 1 Abstract Classic Indonesian exploitation films (originally produced, distributed, and exhibited in the New Order’s Indonesia from 1979 to 1995) are commonly negligible in both national and transnational cinema contexts, in the discourses of film criticism, journalism, and studies. Nonetheless, in the 2000s, there has been a global interest in re-circulating and consuming this kind of films. The films are internationally considered as “cult movies” and celebrated by global fans. This thesis will focus on the cultural traffic of the films, from late 1970s to early 2010s, from Indonesia to other countries. By analyzing the global flows of the films I will argue that despite the marginal status of the films, classic Indonesian exploitation films become the center of a taste battle among a variety of interest groups and agencies. The process will include challenging the official history of Indonesian cinema by investigating the framework of cultural traffic as well as politics of taste, and highlighting the significance of exploitation and B-films, paving the way into some findings that recommend accommodating the movies in serious discourses on cinema, nationally and globally. -

PREFERENSI PENONTON TERHADAP FILM INDONESIA Muhammad Yaumul Rizky, Yolanda Stellarosa STIKOM The London School of Public Relations – Jakarta [email protected], [email protected] ABSTRACT This research aims to discover the preference of audiences towards Indonesian movie, located in Jakarta. The purpose of this study is to understand the audience preferences of Indonesia movie through movie attributes such as genre, symbolism, actor, director, sequel, production house, film set, and marketing. Quantitative descriptive research method was used in the research and questionnaire distributed to 200 respondents by applying purposive sampling technique. This research found that the most average of audience preferences from film attributes are: genre, marketing, sequel, symbolism, director, actor, film set and production house. Keywords: Preference, Audience, Indonesian Movie, Quantitative, Uses and Gratification Theory, Film Attribute. ABSTRAK Perkembangan perfilman Indonesia dari tahun ke tahun cenderung lambat. Dikabarkan juga bahwa perfilman Indonesia akan redup. Namun saat ini perfilman Indonesia justru semakin berkembang dan mulai diminati. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui tentang preferensi penonton terhadap film Indonesia di Jakarta dilihat dari atribut film seperti genre, karya saduran, pemain, sutradara, sekuel, rumah produksi, latar, dan pemasaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif deskriptif, kuesioner dibagikan kepada 200 orang responden dengan teknik purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa preferensi penonton terhadap film Indonesia cenderung pada atribut film genre film, preferensi kedua adalah pemasaran, preferensi ketiga adalah sekuel, preferensi keempat adalah karya saduran, preferensi kelima adalah sutradara, preferensi keenam adalah pemain, preferensi ketujuh adalah latar dan preferensi terakhir adalah rumah produksi. Dalam langkahnya sebagai guru muda yang ingin menerapkan ilmunya di tengah masyarakat ia menemui banyak sekali tantangan dan lika-liku dalam kehidupannya, namun semua itu ia hadapi dengan keikhlasan dan kesabaran serta perjuangan. Kemudian yang menjadi pertanyaan utama adalah bagaimana gagasan atau wacana yang terdapat dalam film Titian Serambut Dibelah Tujuh yang di sutradarai oleh Chaerul umam? Selanjutnya akan melahirkan sub-question mengenai nilai-nilai moral apa saja yang terdapat dalam film titian serambut dibelah tujuh ini? Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis wacana dari model Teun Van Dijk. Dalam model Van Dijk ada tiga dimensi yang menjadi objek penelitiannya, yaitu dimensi teks, kognisi sosial, dan juga konteks sosial adalah pandangan atau pemahaman komunikator terhadap situasi yang melatar belakangi dibuatnya film tersebut. Sedangkan dimensi teks adalah susunan struktur teks yang terdapat dalam film ini. Jika dianalisa, secara umum guru Ibrahim dalam film titian serambut dibelah tujuh ini hendak mengkonstruksi tema besar yakni tentang keikhlasan, kesabaran dan perjuangan menegakkan amar ma’ruf nahi munkar serta cobaan yang dihadapinya. -

33 From Populism to Democratic Polity: Problems and Challenges in Surakarta, Indonesia Pratikno and Cornelis Lay Abstract The paper discusses democratisation practiced in Surakarta, Indonesia, which has been claimed by many experts as a municipality with “best practices” of democratic local governance in Indonesia. Their analyses focus on the actors and claim that participation is a possible way of crafting stable democracy. This participation in turn, they suggest, is a result of decentralisation which thus strengthen local democracy. Presenting the civil society participation and the decentralisation in the city of Surakarta, this paper shows that what actually happens is otherwise. It argues that the rise of popular participation was rooted in contentious local politics. Besides, the constitution of the new forms of popular representation are not supported by, and produced within, a clear ideological framework from the people in Surakarta. Introduction Participation through civil society and decentralisation has become the main theme within the current debates about democratisation.1 The assumption is that participation and decentralisation will strengthen democracy. This paper discusses the controversy surrounding Sultan HB X’s decision by measuring the impact of his proclamations and orders for the Sultanate’s long-term regime effectiveness. I argue that Sultan HB X’s proclamations and orders based, which were based on mysticism and a sense of divinity, have been ineffectual for maintaining regime effectiveness inside and outside of the Sultanate. Within the Sultanate, the Sultan’s siblings have argued that his decisions contradict the Sultanate’s centuries-long tradition of rules (paugeran). Outside the palace walls, broader society has been divided over Sultan HB X’s choice. One group supports Sultan HB X’s decision, while the other group is determined to hold on firmly to their patriarchal cultural and historical traditions. While Sultan HB X’s proclamations and orders have been ineffectual in maintaining the Sultanate and its influence, his decisions have even brought about an enormous challenge to the survival prospects of the Sultanate itself. There is still a debate on film and literature relationship. Some argued that films and videos were in the opposite site of language activities, that is, films and videos tried to present the concrete, particular, and sensational forms of life. While others argued that films might be the objects of literary researches. This article aims at exploring the relationship of films and literature and uncovering the position of films as the object of research of literature students. Films and literatue’s relationship cannot be separated from the activity of adapting literary work into movie, or ecranisation. Ecranisation theory bridges the relationship of film and literature and make a film suitable object of a literary research. Yet, there are some who argue that a film which is not the product of ecranisation can become the object of a literary research under the umbrella of culture study, that everything may undergo a redefinition. Key words: literature, film, ecranisation, text, redefinition Pendahuluan Dari fenomena tersebut, sastra dan Sastra dan film adalah dua hal film adalah peluang yang paling mudah yang akrab dalam kehidupan manusia saat bagi manusia mengisi ruang sunyi untuk ini. Di antara hiruk pikuk aktivitas sehari- mendapatkan pleasure. Novel, misalnya, hari, sastra dan film hadir sebagai alternatif dapat dibawa kemana saja dan dibaca saat yang gampang ditemui untuk santai atau di waktu senggang. Demikian menghilangkan kebosanan, mengatasi juga film, sepulang kerja atau ketika kejenuhan, dan mengusir kepenatan di sela- liburan, orang dapat pergi ke biosskop sela pekerjaan. -

BAB II GAMBARAN UMUM FILM SANG PENCERAH A. Film Sang Pencerah Film Sang Pencerah merupakan film karya Hanung Bramantyo yang berangkat dari kisah sejarah perjuangan salah satu tokoh besar K.H. Ahmad Dahlan sebagai pendiri Muhammadiyah. Kisah ini diadopsi dan dikembangkan oleh Hanung Bramantyo menjadi skenario film yang selanjutnya diproduksi menjadi film yang berjudul “Sang Pencerah”. Film Sang Pencerah berdurasi 112 menit dan menghabiskan biaya 12 Miliyar ini ditulis dan disutradarai oleh Hanung Bramantyo. Film ini diproduseri oleh Raam Punjabi di bawah naungan PT Multivision Plus (MVP) dan mendapat dukungan penuh dari PP Muhammadiyah. Pemain film ini diantaranya: Lukman Sardi, Ihsan Taroreh, Slamet Rahardjo, Zazkia Adya Mecca, Yati Surachman, Pangki Suwito, Ikranegara, Sujewo Tejo, Ricky Perdana, Mario Irwansyah, Denis Adhiswara, Abdurrahman Afif, serta penampilan perdana dari Giring Nidji. Syuting perdana Film Sang Pencerah dimulai tanggal 21 Mei 2010 sekaligus menandai rangkaian proses produksi film yang menjadi kado istemewa Milad ke-100 warga Muhammadiyah di seluruh Indonesia. Berbicara masalah proses pembuatan film serta sukses atau tidaknya dalam proses produksinya, tentu saja tidak akan pernah lepas dari peran tim kreatif yang terlibat. 30 Berikut beberapa tim kreatif yang terlibat di dalam proses produksi film, diantaranya : (Gambar 2 : Cover Film Sang Pencerah) Sumber: www.wikepedia.com B. Tokoh-tokoh Dalam Film Sang Pencerah Keberhasilan sebuah film ditentukan oleh performa pemain (cast) dan akting, keberhasilan film tentu juga tidak lepas dari orang-orang yang bekerja dibalik layar yang biasa dikenal sebagai crew film (Pratista, 2008: 154). Interestingly, it examines the encounters of American, European, Asian and Muslim cultures through Indonesian screen culture. The researcher chose the film Ayat-Ayat Cinta, as a study material because it got the attention of contemporary Indonesian Muslim audiences, making it interesting to observe. This research examines the workings of Indonesian popular religious films in shaping public opinion regarding the rise of post-Islamism by educated young Indonesian Muslims. The integration between Islam and consumption of popular culture is significantly studied in this study. Through text observation, This research finds that the relationship between religion and popular culture is not a simple cause and effect relationship. Through the perspective of semiotics and the theory of reality construction from Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, this study suggests that Indonesian Muslim youths shape themselves as subjects of modern Islam. This adjustment is modified from certain values offered by Islamic films very subtly. I. Introduction In this century, religion has become a practice of commodification and commercialization in such a way. This situation is possible because films, music, radio, television, tabloids, and newspapers have become the main concern of contemporary society, which spends most of its time constructing itself in the formation of identity.
