KEYNOTE SPEAKERS David Quéré ESPCI - CNRS, Paris, France TUESDAY 6 SEPTEMBER 9:20-9:50 David Quéré is senior scientist at CNRS and joint professor at the École Poytechnique. His research field is interfacial hydrodynamics, ranging from surface coating to wetting of textured surfaces, self-propulsion or biomimetism. His work is motivated by scientific curiosity (superhydrophobic leaves, bird feeding or underwater spiders), but it is also strongly influenced by industrial applications (glass manufacturing, food processing, anti-adhesive coatings). His approach is based on elegant experimental setups and a description of physical phenomena through scaling law arguments. He received the CNRS silver medal in 2014 for his worldwide impact in the development of interfacial hydrodynamics. Piotr Garstecki Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland TUESDAY 6 SEPTEMBER 13:20-13:50 Piotr Garstecki is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Science, in Warsaw, Poland. He obtained MSc in Theoretical Physics from the College of Science of the Polish Academy in 1998 and PhD in Chemistry from the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS. He later conducted research as a postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. George Whitesides at the Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department at Harvard University. He currently leads the Research Group of Microfluidics and Complex Fluids at the Institute of Physical Chemistry in Warsaw. The group conducts research on fundamental aspects of the physics of soft matter systems and develops microfluidic tools for chemistry and biology. He coauthored close to a hundred scientific publications and multiple patent applications and cofounded two spin-out companies: Scope Fluidics and Curiosity Diagnostics, both working on the use of microfluidic technologies in medical diagnostics. -

PRESS RELEASE Safran appointments June 28, 2021 Two appointments to Safran's Executive Committee Effective July 1, 2021, Stéphane Cueille is named CEO of Safran Electrical & Power. He takes over from Alain Sauret, who is retiring. Olivier Andriès, CEO of Safran, said, “I would like to sincerely thank Alain Sauret, who joined the Group almost 40 years ago at our legacy company, Labinal. He went on to transform the company into a world-class center of electrical system excellence. Safran Electrical & Power is today a cornerstone of our decarbonized aviation roadmap.” Holding the rank of Ingénieur de l’Armement (defense scientist), Stéphane Cueille was seconded to Snecma1 from 1998 to 2001 to work on ceramic matrix composites (CMC). He returned to the French defense procurement agency DGA in 2001, taking various management positions in the aircraft propulsion sector. In 2005 he was placed in charge of the Missiles-Space unit in the industrial affairs department (S2IE). In 2008, he returned to Snecma, starting in the turbine blade quality department at the Gennevilliers plant. PROJECT GAM-2020-LPA Large Passenger Aircraft Innovative Aircraft Demonstrator Platform Funding: European (Horizon 2020) Duration: Jan 2020 - Dec 2021 Status: Ongoing Total project cost: €142,140,284 EU contribution: €106,688,121 Call for proposal: H2020-IBA-CS2-GAMS-2019 CORDIS RCN : 231017 Objectives: The main objective for the Clean Sky 2 Large Passenger Aircraft Programme (LPA) is to further mature and validate key technologies such as advanced wings and empennages design, making use of hybrid laminar airflow wing developments, the integration of most advanced engines into the large passenger aircraft aircraft design as well as an all-new next generation fuselage cabin and cockpit-navigation. Dedicated demonstrators are dealing with research on the best opportunities to combine radical propulsion concepts, and the opportunities to use scalled flight testing for the maturation and validation of these concepts via scalled flight testing. Components of hybrid electric propulsion concepts are developed and tested in a major ground based test rig. The LPA program is also contributing with a major work package to the E-Fan X program. The R&T activities in the LPA program is split in 21 so-called demonstrators. In the project period 2020 and 2021 a substantial number of hardware items ground and flight test items will be manufactured, assembled tested. For some large items like the Multifunctional Fuselage demonstrators or the HLFC wing ground demonstrator the detailed design and manufacturing of test items will be commenced. For the great majority of contributing technologies a Technology Readiness level (TRL) 3 or 4 will be accomplished or even exceeded. -

French Aeronautical Players to Fly 100% Alternative Fuel on Single-Aisle Aircraft End of 2021
French aeronautical players to fly 100% alternative fuel on single-aisle aircraft end of 2021 Toulouse, Paris, 10 June 2021- Airbus, Safran, Dassault Aviation, ONERA and Ministry of Transport are jointly launching an in-flight study, at the end of 2021, to analyse the compatibility of unblended sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with single-aisle aircraft and commercial aircraft engine and fuel systems, as well as with helicopter engines. This flight will be made with the support of the “Plan de relance aéronautique” (the French government‘s aviation recovery plan) managed by Jean Baptiste Djebbari, French Transport Minister. Known as VOLCAN (VOL avec Carburants Alternatifs Nouveaux), this project is the first time that in-flight emissions will be measured using 100% SAF in a single-aisle aircraft. Airbus is responsible for characterising and analysing the impact of 100% SAF on-ground and in- flight emissions using an A320neo test aircraft powered by a CFM LEAP-1A engine1. Safran will focus on compatibility studies related to the fuel system and engine adaptation for commercial and helicopter aircraft and their optimisation for various types of 100% SAF fuels. ONERA will support Airbus and Safran in analysing the compatibility of the fuel with aircraft systems and will be in charge of preparing, analysing and interpreting test results for the impact of 100% SAF on emissions and contrail formation. In addition, Dassault Aviation will contribute to the material and equipment compatibility studies and verify 100% SAF biocontamination susceptibility. The various SAFs used for the VOLCAN project will be provided by TotalEnergies. Moreover, this study will support efforts currently underway at Airbus and Safran to ensure the aviation sector is ready for the large-scale deployment and use of SAF as part of the wider initiative to decarbonise the industry. -

Centrale Lille au sein de l’Établissement public expérimental « Université de Lille » Principes détaillés vus par Centrale Lille Propos liminaires : Ce texte est une proposition issue des travaux et discussions d’un groupe de travail1 composé du Directeur général de Centrale Lille, de membres élus2 du Conseil d’administration de Centrale Lille, de membres nommés3 du Conseil d’administration de Centrale Lille et de la Directrice générale des services de Centrale Lille. Ce groupe de travail a été créé sur demande du Conseil d’administration du 30 juin 2020 pour rédiger un document répondant au scénario d’une intégration ambitieuse de Centrale Lille à un établissement public expérimental (EPE) qui : ñ lui permet de devenir le leader de l’ingénierie au sein de l’EPE ñ contribue à la construction d’un EPE qui a vocation à porter l’émergence d’une « université d’excellence » selon la philosophie de l’appel à projet IDEX-I-SITE. Cette proposition s’inscrit donc dans un scénario global où : 1. l’EPE permet à Centrale Lille de changer de dimension pour renforcer son action et sa reconnaissance internationale en matière d’ingénierie pour en faire le leader au sein de l’EPE, 2. l’EPE est lui-même un établissement innovant dans sa structuration et son mode de gouvernance ; construit sur une subsidiarité très forte, il permet de porter avec efficacité le projet scientifique issu de l’I-SITE. 1 Le groupe de travail s’est réuni le 13 juillet et le 11 septembre. The latter will also take on the role of Chairman of the Monitoring Committee. For the shareholders and the group's CEO, this strengthening is clearly in line with Mecachrome's roadmap to regain an ambitious commercial dynamic and position itself as a platform for consolidation in the aeronautics sector despite difficult market conditions. About the Contributors
358 About the Contributors Li-minn Ang received his Ph.D and Bachelor degrees from Edith Cowan University, Australia in 2001 and 1996 respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. His research interests are in the fields of visual information processing, intelligent processing techniques, hardware architectures, reconfigurable computing, and engineering education. He has authored or coauthored a number of journal and conference papers in these areas. Currently he leads the research activities at the Visual Information Engineering Research Group at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. He has received research grants from the Malaysian government and industry for his research activities and has served as a reviewer and committee member for a number of journals and conferences. Dr. Ang is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK). Kah Phooi Seng received her Ph.D and Bachelor degrees from the University of Tasmania, Australia in 2001 and 1997 respectively. She is currently a Professor of Computer Science at Sunway University, Malaysia. Her research interests are in the fields of intelligent visual processing, biometrics and multi- biometrics, artificial intelligence, and signal processing. She has authored or coauthored a number of journal and conference papers in these areas. Dr. Seng has received research grants from the Malaysian government and industry for her research activities and has served as a reviewer for journals and con- ferences. * * * Ruth M.
