iron and wine full download free mp3 download Iron & Wine. Iron & Wine is the stage and recording name of folk rock singer and composer Sam Beam (born July 26, 1974). He currently resides in Dripping Springs, Texas, outside Austin. He has released four studio , several EPs and singles, as well as a few download-only releases, which include a live album (a recording of his 2005 Bonnaroo performance). The name Iron & Wine is taken from a dietary supplement named "Beef Iron & Wine" that he found in a general store. Beam was raised outside Columbia, South Carolina, United States where his father worked in land management and his mother was a schoolteacher. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor's degree and the Florida State University Film School with an MFA degree. Until the first Iron & Wine album, Beam's main source of income was as a professor of film and cinematography at the University of Miami and Miami International University of Art & Design. He had been writing songs for over seven years before a friend lent him a four-track recorder. His friends handed out copies of demos that he had made, and the owner of Sub Pop Records personally contacted Beam and proposed a deal. Beam released his first album, The Creek Drank the Cradle, on the Sub Pop label in 2002; Beam wrote, performed, recorded, and produced every track on the album by himself at a studio in his home. The album features acoustic guitars, banjo, and slide guitar; its music has been compared, variously, to that of Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, and Ralph Stanley. In 2003 The Sea & the Rhythm was released, an EP collecting other home-recorded tracks along the same lines as those on the debut. Beam's second album, Our Endless Numbered Days (2004), was recorded in a professional studio with a significant increase in fidelity. The focus still lies on acoustic material, but the inclusion of other band members gives rise to a very different sound. Beam released an EP titled in February 2005, and the EP , a collaboration with Calexico was released in September 2005. This joint work mostly features new full-band versions of previously recorded Iron and Wine rarities. One of his most famous songs is a cover, which was featured on a commercial for M&M's candies and in the 2004 film ?Garden State? (and on its popular soundtrack), of "" by The Postal Service. "" is the fourth studio album by Iron & Wine, released January 25, 2011. The album's title is taken from the lyrics of track 10, "Your Fake Name Is Good Enough for Me". The album marks a further change in style ? in an interview with SPIN magazine, Beam said ?It's more of a focused pop record. It sounds like the music people heard in their parent's car growing up? that early-to-mid-'70s FM, radio-friendly music." Iron and wine full album download free mp3 download. I visited Iron & Wine's Web site yesterday while doing a bit of research for an upcoming Song of the Day essay -- SPOILER: A song from Iron & Wine's new Around the Well collection is about to be featured on Song of the Day -- and stumbled across this sentence in the middle of the band's news feed: "Also, the 8 acoustic versions of songs from The Shepherd's Dog are available again for free download. Enjoy the music. Thanks for listening." Now, the existence of these recordings may be old news to diehards, but I was thrilled -- so much so that I delayed listening to the new Wilco stream for an hour or two while I basked in eight gorgeous Iron & Wine songs, each stripped to their barest, warmest essentials. Balancing the intimacy of Sam Beam's early home recordings with the springy sweetness of his lush later material, they're a perfect companion to one of my favorite albums of 2007. More to the point, it never hurts to pause and reflect on an age in which you can visit a Web site, click one button, and have eight beautiful songs legally dumped onto your desktop in a zip file for exactly zero dollars. I literally went from "Whoa, free songs!" to "Whoa, this is gorgeous!" in the span of 30 seconds. While I pause to thank the Internet for its very existence, a more important thank-you is in order: Thanks, Iron & Wine! Anyone who's ever liked the band should download these songs immediately -- and, if you like what you hear and haven't done so already, buy The Shepherd's Dog , too. Any other recommendations for free (and legal) downloads people should know about? While you're thinking it over, feel free to peruse NPR Music's own free music downloads here. First Listen Live: Iron And Wine. Back in 2002, Iron and Wine was a "band" in name only — a vehicle for the whispered acoustic bedroom recordings of a college film professor named Sam Beam. Beam's rustic musings sang of death and damnation, love and redemption, while packing a surprising degree of momentum and narrative thrust into what only sounded like gentle folk songs. Video by Bill Porter and Whitehorse Productions. If it weren't for Beam's softly engaging croon, the Iron and Wine of the forthcoming Kiss Each Other Clean wouldn't always be recognizable to Beam fans from eight or nine years ago. For one thing, he's evolved into a full-fledged bandleader, following 2007's engagingly springy The Shepherd's Dog with a sound that feels fuzzier, even dirtier. The opening seconds of Kiss Each Other Clean sound like no preceding Iron & Wine record — "Walking Far From Home" swaps out the clean acoustic guitars for layers of fuzz and subtly processed vocals — though the album feels like a natural extension of its marvelous predecessor, and even lets rays of sunlight peek in during songs like "Tree by the River." Like The Shepherd's Dog , Kiss Each Other Clean showcases Iron and Wine's subtly exploratory, even meandering side. But fans of the group needn't wait until the album's Jan. 25 release date to hear the new innovations for themselves: Wednesday afternoon, Beam and his bandmates appeared on WNYC's Soundcheck to announce a surprise live performance of the new album at The Greene Space in New York City that night — a concert you can now watch in its entirety or download as an mp3. NPR Music would like to extend a special thanks to WNYC engineers Irene Trudel (mix engineer), George Wellington and Edward Haber and Greene Space engineers Ricardo Fernandez (Technical Production Manager) and Gaines Legare (FOH engineer).
