Clarence Darrow Timeline of His Life and Legal Career Michael Hannon (2010) Clarence Seward Darrow was born on April 18, 1857 in Farmdale, Ohio. Farmdale is a small community in southwestern Kinsman which is one of twenty-four townships in Trumbull County, Ohio. His parents were Ammirus Darrow1 and Emily (Eddy) Darrow. He spent most of his childhood in Kinsman. His mother chose the name Clarence. It was an early example of the work of fate that he could not control: Where they found the name to which I have answered so many years I never knew. Perhaps my mother read a story where a minor character was called Clarence, but I fancy I have not turned out to be anything like him. The one satisfaction I have had in connection with this cross was that the boys never could think up any nickname half so inane as the real one my parents adorned me with.2 Darrow’s parents so admired Senator William H. Seward of New York, an outspoken abolitionist, that they gave him the middle name “Seward.” The first of the Darrow line in America was a Darrow who left England along with fifteen other men and sailed to New London, Connecticut a century before the Revolutionary War. They had a land grant from the King of England for the town of New London. This early Darrow was an undertaker which prompted his descendant to write this “shows that he had some appreciation of a good business, and so chose a profession where the demand for his services would be fairly steady.

The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre USA | 1967 | 100 minutes Credits In Brief Director Roger Corman Director Corman and writer Howard Browne construct The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre as a Screenplay Howard Browne docudrama. Paul Frees narrates the entire film, introducing characters, providing their backstories–Corman sometimes mutes the film’s dialogue so Frees can explain a little about Music Lionel Newman, the person. Massacre might be mostly authentic in its portrayal of the titular event, but it Fred Steiner doesn’t matter. Frees, Browne and Corman could sell anything. Photography Milton R. Krasner The film’s layered. It opens after the massacre and quietly backs up to explain it. It uses flashbacks a couple more times, specifically to explain the hatred between gangsters Al Cast Capone and Bugs Moran. Corman doesn’t open with either of them. Instead he opens with Al Capone Jason Robards George Segal as a sociopathic gangster working for Meeker. It’s good Segal and Robards never Peter Gusenberg George Segal have a scene together because they would have ripped the sets apart with their teeth. George Clarence Ralph Meeker Robards’s performance has a couple weak spots, but he still transfixes. As written, the 'Bugs' Moran character ranges from sorrow to anger immediately and Robards plays it beautifully. Segal Myrtle Jean Hale has almost no quite moments; watching him is waiting for him to erupt. But he always remains somehow likable, probably because no one in Massacre is particularly likable. Segal just has the charisma to weather it. http://thestopbutton.com/ Historical Background Al Capone had been brought to Chicago from New York in late 1919 to help Johnny Torrio, his mentor, operate a network of brothels and gambling establishments.
