(Diptera: Cyclorrliapha: Schizophora: Acalyptratae) Dem Grundanliegen und dem Aufbau des Typenkataloges unserer Sammlungen entsprechend, wie beides von P e t e r s b n 1968 im Teil I (Beitr. Ent. 18, 959 — 960) formuliert wurde, beginnt mit diesem Teil die Erfassung der Typen aus der Dipteren- Sammlung. Er beinhaltet die Sektion Acalyptratae. In Vorbereitung befinden sich Teile über die Sektion Calyptratae und die Division Aschiza. Weitere Folgen werden das übrige Material aus den Unterordnungen Brachycera und Nematocera auf­ nehmen. Begonnen wurde mit den Sektionen, die in der Sammlung das umfang­ reichste Typenmaterial enthalten. Die Anordnung der Familien folgt dem gegen­ wärtig modernsten Katalogwerk über die Dipteren: „A Catalog of the Diptera of America North of M exico“ . Agriculture H andbook No. 276 (Washington 1965). Angaben über Synonymie und Subspezies sind nicht auf ihre Aktualität hin über­ prüft worden, sondern entsprechen dem gegenwärtigen Zustand in der Sammlung. Taxa unterhalb der Subspezies wurden nicht berücksichtigt. Die Arbeit soll dazu beitragen, die Empfehlungen zu den Artikeln 72 — 74 der Internationalen Regeln für die Zoologische Nomenklatur (Int. Reg. Zool. Nomenkl., Deutscher Text, SBNCKBNBEReische Naturforschende Gesellschaft, p. 38 — 42; Frank­ furt/Main 1962) zu realisieren. Die Angaben der Beschreibung werden mit denen der Typenexemplare verglichen. Bemerkungen (in eckigen Klammern) über den Verlust von Typen, über Erhaltungszustand, mikroskopische Präparate sowie über unrechtmäßig festgelegte Typen folgen. Dort, wo in der Sammlung einzelne Typen von Spezialisten entgegen den allgemeinen Angaben der Beschreibung als Holo-, Para-, Cotypen etikettiert wurden, werden sie hiermit künftigen Revisoren als Lecto- und Paralectotypen empfohlen. Die Bezeichnung Cotypus wurde in der Sammlung, weil irreführend, durch Syn- beziehungsweise Paratypus ersetzt. Gene­ rell wurde der Begriff Typus in allen Fällen, wo dem Autor einer neuen Art nur ein einziges Exemplar bei der Beschreibung vorlag, durch Holotypus ersetzt. Der Be­ griff Allotypus wurde zwar belassen, da er aber den Internationalen Regeln der Zoologischen Nomenklatur nicht entspricht, in Anführungszeichen gesetzt. Auf den Verlust von Typenmaterial wird hingewiesen und dort, wo das einzige typische Exemplar einer A rt vollkommen oder zu großen Teilen fehlt, die Festlegung eines Neotypus empfohlen. 1 Jetzt: Institut für Pflanzenschutzforschung,, Zweigstelle Eberswalde, Abteilung Taxonomie der Insekten. MOROGORO, TANZANIA. 2018 ii EXTENDED ABSTRACT This study was undertaken to reduce the losses caused by Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) in Manica province, Mozambique, through an optimized integrated pest management (IPM) package. It involved interviews with farmers to collect baseline information on awareness of fruit producers regarding fruit fly pests and their management so that an IPM package can be developed based on the farmers’ needs. Additionally, systematic trapping data of B. dorsalis seasonality and damage were collected and economic injury level (EIL) for B. dorsalis was estimated. Based on EIL, the IPM for B. dorsalis control developed in Tanzania by the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA IPM) was optimized. The SUA IPM included calendar GF 120 NF bait sprays and orchard sanitation while for the optimized IPM the GF 120 NF was only sprayed in the subplots inside the orchard when the threshold of 30 flies/trap/week was reached. The effectiveness of SUA IPM and its optimized version were also tested. Results showed that fruit flies were the main pest problem in mango and citrus orchards. More than 70% the respondents indicated low fruit quality and increasing volumes of uncommercial zed fruits as consequences of fruit flies infestation. The monetary value of losses reached a value of USD 135,784.8 during 2014/15 mango season.

    ,;rAXONOMY OF PHILIPPINE DIPTERA * / Clare R. Baltazar ** Introduction The Diptera or true flies are insects with a pair of functional wings , except for a relatively few wiqgless forms. Other insects with only two wings are some species of mayflies or Ephemeroptera and male Coccoidea. Dipterans have been a favorite subject of study because of their importance as human or animal pests, or as vectors of diseases. Among such pests and or vectors are mosquitoes, biting midges, black flies , sandflies, houseflies, horseflies and blow­ flies. Mosquitoes transmit malaria, filariasis, and a number of viral diseases such as dengue, H-fever and encephalitides. Many species such as fruittlies, leafminer flies and gall midges are pests of agricultural crops or forest trees. Others, however, are beneficial as parasites or predators that help regulate the populations of many plant and animal pests. This paper attempts to present important taxonomic literature on Diptera described or recorded in the Philippines from 1758 to 1984, or a period of 226 years. A brief history of taxonomic studies on Philippine materials, including the preparation of Diptera catalogs, will be reviewed . In Table 1 is a classification scheme showing the diversity and taxonomic arrangement of families and higher categories, as well as the present count of genera and species under each family , and endemism expressed in percent. The predominant groups of Diptera in the Philippines are shown in Table 2 and the rare families, in Table 3. Table 4 presents the families of Diptera that are known in the Oriental region but are missing or unrecorded in the Philippines.

MCALPINE Australian Museum, 6 College Street, Sydney NSW 2010, Australia ABSTRACT. The distribution patterns of platystomatid genera in the 12 recognized provinces of the Australasian Region are recorded. Notes are provided on biology and behaviour, including parasitism by fungi and strepsipterans, and mimicry of other insects and spiders. Means of separation from other acalyptrate families are provided. A key to Australasian genera is given. The subfamily Angitulinae is placed in synonymy of Platystomatinae. The subfamily classification is briefly discussed. The following new genera are described: Aetha, Bama, Eumeka, Hysma, Par, Phlyax, Signa, Tarfa, Terzia, Tomeus. Gonga and Polimen are new subgenera of Naupoda and Bama respectively. The genus Lasioxiria Hendel is a new synonym of Atopognathus Bigot. Chaetostichia Enderlein is a new synonym of Scholastes Loew. Eopiara Frey, described as a subgenus of Piara Loew, is raised to generic status. The genera Angituloides Hendel and Giraffomyia Sharp are reduced to subgenera of Angitula Walker. The following new species are described: Aetha cowanae, Bama (Polimen) shinonagai, Eumeka hendeli, Hysma lacteum, Paryphodes hospes, Signa mouldsi, Tarfa bowleyae, Terzia saigusai, Tomeus wyliei, Zealandortalis gregi.
