These are the energies that underlie physical reality – they form you and everything you see. Many scientific studies have been done on subtle energies, as well as the human subtle energy system, in an attempt to verify and understand how everything fits together. What is interesting to note is that even though the subtle energy systems on the earth have been verified scientifically as existing and even given names, scientists are only able to explain how some of them work. Even though we do not fully comprehend the enormity and absolute amazingness of these energies, they form an integral part of life as we know it. These various energy systems still exist regardless of whether you “believe in them” or not (unlike Santa Claus). You can liken them to micro-organisms that were unable to be seen before the invention of the microscope – they couldn’t be seen, but they killed people anyway. We, and everything in the universe, is made of energy, which can be defined most simply as “information that vibrates”. What’s more interesting is that everything vibrates at its own unique frequency / speed, for example, a brain cell vibrates differently than a hair cell, and similar organisms vibrate in similar ways, but retain a slightly different frequency than the other. There are two basic types of energies: physical and subtle. For those of you that are interested in quantum physics and all things scientific, the core evidence for subtle energies in general includes the following, which is a mere fraction of the thousands of studies conducted by universities (MIT and other prestigious institutions), research 1 laboratories and even NASA : Use of various magnetic devices such as the superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) for perceiving electromagnetic energies beyond the bounds of the body. A process that embeds a human intention onto a simple electrical device, thus showing the effects of thought on physicality. Various experiments using inorganic, organic, and living materials that reveal a unique, secondary level of physical reality affected by human intention. Measurement of meridians and chakra systems, representative subtle channels and energy bodies (including the aura), revealing that they operate at higher levels of electromagnetism than the rest of the body. 1 Excerpted from Cyndi Dale’s The Subtle Body – an Encyclopedia of your Energetic Anatomy Psychic Development Course Page 3 The determination of L-fields and T-fields, or electrical life and thought fields, which organise subtle energies. The big question then, is why are we unable to see these subtle energies? Unfortunately, human senses operate within a narrow range on the electromagnetic spectrum, which is the measurable band of energy that produces various types of light. We can, however, learn how to sense certain of these energies and some people are even able to perceive the higher levels of the aura with their physical eyes. Subtle energy fields emanate from every living source, including human cells, organs, and bodies, as well as plants and animals. There are also subtle fields in the earth and natural physical fields in the earth and skies that affect our subtle fields. In addition to this, there are also artificially produced fields, such as those emitted by power lines, radio transmitters and cellphones, that affect our subtle fields. Before going too in-depth here and perhaps cause confusion, let’s start having a look at some of the subtle energy fields, being the Aura and the Chakras. Please read through the separate booklets entitled “The Chakras” (videos also included), and “The Aura” to give you a better understanding of the human subtle energetic system, as well as attempting the Energy Sensing Exercises, which can be done alone or with a friend. Psychic Development Course Page 4 What Does Psychic Even Mean? According to Webster’s New World Dictionary, the term Psychic means: of or having to do with the psyche, or mind beyond natural or known physical processes apparently sensitive to forces beyond the physical world Psychic work is anything that involves sensitivity to non-physical or supernatural nature. Before we can understand what psychic work is, we have to understand what it is not. The normal means for gathering and processing information relies on our five senses (sight, taste, hearing, touch, smell) and our logical/linear brain. Psychic work is the process of obtaining information not using these methods. In psychic work, extra-sensory (beyond the senses) methods are used to gain insight to people, events or situations that would otherwise not be available to the normal range of senses. An example of this would be reading the personality of someone who has not yet been met, therefore negating the possibility of logically assessing them using the five senses. Psychic work is often described by those who are psychic in terms of the extra-sensory way in which they receive insight. Examples include clairvoyance (seeing without the physical eyes), clairaudience (hearing without the physical ears) and clairsentience (feeling without the physical body itself). This may seem confusing, but think of it this way: The physical senses are only physical/material expressions of spiritual senses. Just like electricity precedes the toaster turning on, so too does energetic or spiritual sense precede the physical sense. That means behind the physical eyes there are spiritual eyes. Behind the physical ears there are spiritual ears, and so on. A psychic is able to hone in on the very subtle workings of these spiritual senses and interpret the information gathered by them. A psychic can perceive those subtleties in the same way we normally perceive the road in front of us, a conversation with a friend or the taste of a fresh strawberry. All people are blessed with the ability to negotiate on the spiritual/psychic level — a psychic is just someone who has fine-tuned the art of perceiving incoming information that is normally overlooked. Some of the psychic abilities have names that begin with “clair”, which means clear in French. Many psychics use more than one of these skills. The four main clairs are: 1. Clairvoyance – clear seeing 2. Clairaudience – clear hearing 3. Clairsentience – clear feeling / sensing 4. Claircognizance – clear knowing The less common clairs are: Clairtangency – clear touching (also called psychometry) Psychic Development Course Page 5 Clairgustance – clear tasting Clairalience – clear smelling These are discussed more fully in the pages following. The Difference between a Psychic and a Medium Whether one refers to him- or herself as a psychic medium, spiritual medium, intuitive medium or any other similar title, it's all essentially the same thing - the emphasis being on talking to spirits in the afterlife or in another dimension. While some people are referred to as "psychic mediums", there is a big difference between a psychic and a medium. A psychic isn't necessarily a medium, but a medium is a psychic. This is an important distinction and a good place to start, because many people misunderstand the difference and confuse the two. Psychics tune into the energy of people or objects by feeling or sensing elements of their past, present and future. Simply put, psychics rely on their basic sense of intuition and psychic ability to gather information for the person being read. Mediums take it a step further. A medium uses their psychic or intuitive abilities to see the past, present and future events of a person by tuning into the spirit energy surrounding that person. This means mediums rely on the presence of non-physical energy outside of themselves for the information relevant to the person being read. Another important distinction is that while psychic readings often focus on predicting future events, mediums primarily tune into past and present issues. It's my opinion that predicting the future, while sometimes helpful, runs the risk of disempowering people. Always remember that you do have a say in how your future unfolds. Despite what any psychic or medium may "see" in your future, it is important to remember you were given the gift of free will when you came into this world, and at any moment in time you can absolutely redirect your course and create the life you want by changing your thoughts and actions. Psychic information is often just insight into what potentially could happen based on the road you are currently traveling, and it should be used only as a guideline to help you make the best choices for yourself.
