Bulletin 2015 Engaged in Arctic Research and in All Areas of the Arctic Region
[IASC] · INTERNATIONAL ARCTIC SCIENCE COMMITTEE The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) is a non-governmental, international scientific organization. IASC’s mission is to encourage and facilitate cooperation in all aspects of Arctic research, in all countries IASC engaged in Arctic research and in all areas of the Arctic region. Overall, IASC promotes and supports leading-edge multi-disciplinary research in Bulletin 2015 Bulletin order to foster a greater scientific understanding of the Arctic region and its role in the Earth system. However, results from two new Svalbard ice cores, at Lomonosovfonna and Austfonna, have shown that with careful site selection, high-resolution sampling and multiple chemical analyses it is possible to recover ice cores from which part of the annual signals are preserved, despite the considerable meltwater percolation. The new Svalbard ice cores are positioned in different parts of Svalbard and cover the past 800 years. In this paper we focus on the last 400 years. The d18O signals from the cores are qualitatively similar over most of the twentieth century, suggesting that they record the same atmospheric signal. -

Mr. Ekblaw, who was placed in charge of the 1916 expeditin, will present a separate report. The results of the expedition, naturally, depended upon the loca tion of its headquarters. The enforced selection of Etah, North Green- land, seriously handicapped the work of the expedition from start to finish, while the. expenses of the party were more than doubled. The. first accident, the grounding of the Diana upon the coast of Labrador, was a regrettable adventure. The consequent delay, due to unloading, chartering, and reloading, resulted in such a late arrival at Etah that our plans were disarranged. It curtailed in many ways the eageimess of the men to reach their objective point at the head of Flagler Bay, te proposed site of the winter quarters. The leader and his party being but passengers upon a chartered ship was another handicap, since the captain emphatically declared that he would not steam across Smith Sound. There was but one decision to be made, namely: to land upon the North Greenland shore within striking distance of Cape Sabine. -

Results: Maternal levels of Hg and MERCURY AND PCB 153 CONCENTRATIONS AMONG PCB 153 significantly decreased between 1992 and 2013. NUNAVIMMIUT PREGNANT WOMEN (1992-2013) Overall, concentrations of Hg and PCB 153 among pregnant women decreased respectively by 57% and 77% over the last Adamou, Therese Yero (12) ([email protected]), M. These results have to be interpreted with caution. -

Its overall objective is to improve our understanding of circum-Arctic coastal dynamics as a function of environmental forcing, coastal geology and cryology and morphodynamic behavior. The fourth IASC-sponsored ACD workshop was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, on November 10-13, 2003. Participants from Canada (7), Germany (7), Great Britain (2), the Netherlands (1), Norway (1), Russia (32), Ukraine (1) and the United States (8) attended. During the first part of the workshop, 63 papers dealing with regional and/or circum-Arctic coastal dynamics were presented. Based on the material presented, five thematic working groups were identified: (1) GIS working group to develop of a circum-Arctic coastal GIS system, (2) coastal permafrost working group to discuss processes involved in the transition of onshore to offshore permafrost, (3) biogeochemistry working group with the focus on transport and fate of eroded material (4) biodiversity working group to initiate planning of an Arctic Coastal Biodiversity research agenda, (5) environmental data working group to discuss coastal dynamics as a function of environmental forcing.
