The score of Asian countries water security indicator has been formulated and calculated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). However water security at the river basin level, including irrigation water security, has not been assessed. Like other Asian countries, irrigation in Indonesia is the largest water user, therefore irrigation water security plays important role in water resources management. This paper formulates and calculates the water security for irrigation in all river basins in Indonesia. The computation method is adopted from ADB, and developed according to the conditions of data availability and characteristics of river basins in Indonesia, under the assumption of homogeneity within river basin. It is concluded that the irrigation water security in the river basin in Indonesia is generally in "medium" condition. The "very bad" condition occurs only in Ciliwung-Cisadane and Progo- Opak-Serang river basins. The "bad" conditions include the Bangka, Belitung, Cidanau-Ciujung-Cidurian, Ciliman- Cibungur, Bali-Penida and Lombok river basins. Measures to improve irrigation water security are developing and improving performance of irrigation networks, improve reliability of water supplies by constructing reservoirs and ponds, and reducing water stress with water savings. -

BELSKY Department of Sociology University of Montana Missoula, Montana, USA Soil conservation efforts in Indonesia since the Dutch colonial era have focused on in- troducing bench terraces—a costly soil conservation method for poor, upland farm- ers. Data from two villages in the Kerinci uplands of Sumatra illustrate that even with state underwriting of bench terrace construction, farmers across all economic strata still resist using this method. Why the state has not pursued alternative soil conserva- tion approaches—especially ones that entail the "conservation farming " approach and that can better build upon the diversity of upland farming systems—is discussed in the context of the state's emphasis on productivist and commodity-led agricultural development and on broader geopolitical institutions and forces that perpetuate this approach. Given these constraints, state underwriting of soil conservation for poor farmers (i.e., providing "landesque capital" in Blaikie and Brookfield's 1987 termi- nology) suggests undue hope through economic remedies and the ability of the state to implement environmental and social reform, especially to benefit the poor. The aims of this study were to evaluate the diversity and longitudinal distribution of fish in Klawing River, Purbalingga (Central Java). The survey was performed using a clustered random- sampling technique. The river was divided into upstream, midstream and downstream regions. Species diversity was measured as the number of species, and the longitudinal distribution was assessed by determining the fish species present in each of the three regions. Eighteen fish species of eleven families were identified in the Klawing River: Cyprinidae, Bagridae, Mastacembelidae, Anabantidae, Cichlidae, Channidae, Eleotrididae, Beleontinidae, Osphronemidae, Poecilidae, and Siluridae. Cyprinidae exhibited the highest number of species (six), followed by Bagridae and Cichlidae (two species each). The other families were represented by one species each. A single cluster analysis showed that the upstream population had a similarity of 78% and 50% with the midstream and downstream populations, respectively. Species and family diversities were higher in the midstream populations than in the upstream and downstream populations. -

Indonesia (Republic of) Last updated: 31-01-2004 Location and area Indonesia is an island republic and largest nation of South East Asia, stretching across some 5,000 km and with a north-south spread of about 2,000 km. The republic shares the island of Borneo with Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam; Indonesian Borneo, equivalent to about 75 per cent of the island, is called Kalimantan. The western half of New Guinea is the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya (formerly West Irian); the eastern half is part of Papua New Guinea. The marine frontiers of Indonesia include the South China Sea, the Celebes Sea, and the Pacific Ocean to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the south and west. Indonesia has a land area of 1,904,443 km2. (Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2002). According to Geoanalytics (www.geoanalytics.com/bims/bims.htm) the land area of Indonesia comprises 1,919,663 km2. Topography Indonesia comprises 13,677 islands on both sides of the equator, 6,000 of which are inhabited. Kalimantan and Irian Jaya, together with Sumatra (also called Sumatera), Java (Jawa), and Celebes (Sulawesi) are the largest islands and, together with the insular provinces of Kalimantan and Irian Jaya, account for about 95 per cent of its land area. The smaller islands, including Madura, Timor, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, and Bali predominantly form part of island groups. The Moluccas (Maluku) and the Lesser Sunda Islands (Nusatenggara) are the largest island groups. The Java, Flores, and Banda seas divide the major islands of Indonesia into two unequal strings. The comparatively long, narrow islands of Sumatra, Java, Timor (in the Nusatenggara group), and others lie to the south; Borneo, Celebes, the Moluccas, and New Guinea lie to the north. -

This study provided understanding of morphometric variation and diet composition of three species of mudskippers, i.e. Boleophthalmus boddarti, Periophthalmodon schlosseri, and Periophthalmus chrysospilos. The data obtained can be used for fish cultivation in the future. The relation of weight and length of species B. boddarti, P. schlosseri and P. chrysospilos had a correlation of 72.2%, 98.2%, and 94.5% , respectively with the value of b = 1.474, 3.189, and 2.271, respectively. This suggests that the growth patterns of B. boddarti and P. chrysospilos are allometrically negative, while P. schlosseri is allometrically positive. B. boddarti is classified as a herbivore, the main food of phytoplankton from Bacillariophyceae class with percentage 100%; 80% of Chlorophyceae; 95.6% of Cyanophyceae; 13.33% of Desmidiaceae; 13.33% of Euglenophyceae and 37.78% of Xanthophyceae. P. schlosseri is classified as carnivores, the main food is Uca sp. -

ABSTRACT For the past 200 years most, if not all Australian Tree Frogs have been treated as being in a single genus. For many years this was Hyla Laurenti, 1768, before the genus name Litoria Tschudi, 1838 was adopted by Cogger et al. (1983) and has been in general use by most herpetologists since, including Cogger (2014). Tyler and Davies (1978) divided the putative genus Litoria into 37 “species groups” and this type of classification has been used by numerous authors since, including most recently Menzies (2006) for the New Guinea species and Anstis (2014) for the Australian ones. -

Sungai Kampar mempunyai peran penting bagi masyarakat untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pertanian, perikanan, transportasi dan juga domestik. Perubahan tutupan lahan di DAS Kampar terutama menurunnya luas hutan dipicu oleh pertumbuhan penduduk dan pembangunan yang sangat cepat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara curah hujan dan tutupan lahan di DTA Lipat Kain dengan besaran debit aliran sungai Kampar kiri di outlet Lipat kain.
