National Minimum Wage

16 – 17 year olds (above school leaving age but under 18) £3.79 per hour

18 – 20 year olds £5.13 per hour

21 years and over £6.50 per hour

Apprentices under 19 or in the first year of an apprenticeship £2.73 per hour

Apprentices work alongside experienced staff to gain specific skills. Apprentices also attend a training provider such as a local college (usually on a day release basis) to receive additional training which leads to recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships usually last between one and three years depending on the training programme. Looking for an apprenticeship is like looking for a job. You will be interviewed and may need to take a test for the employer or training provider to check an apprenticeship is right for you.

How much do you get paid:

The new National Minimum Wage (NMW) came into force on 1 October 2012 where all apprentices will be paid a minimum of £2.68 per hour*. The new apprentice NMW applies to all 16 to 18 year olds and to those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. If you reach age 19 and have completed the first year of your Apprenticeship your employer must pay you at least the full NMW rate for those aged 18 to 20. If you are already 19 and have completed the first year of your Apprenticeship you must be paid at least the NMW rate for your age. Princes Trust are now recruiting!!! 30th March – 19th June 2015 in Blandford

Princes Trust are currently recruiting for a team of 16 to 25 year olds to join them on their Team Programme running from the Retained Station, St Leonards Avenue, Blandford.

The programme runs for roughly 12 weeks and includes a Princes Trust Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills that can be achieved at Entry Level 3, Level 1 or Level 2.

Young people join a team of up to 13 participants. During the 12 week programme, Team members:  Undertake a project based in their local community  Complete a work placement  Participate in a team challenge, involving caring for others  As well as gaining important employability skills

A taster session is being held on 25th March from 10-3pm at the Retained Station, St Leonards Avenue, Blandford – please come along and see what it’s all about !

The Pathway Programme

The Pathway Programme is an employment and skills project in partnership with government work programme provider, Working Links. It offers eight weeks unpaid work experience with the potential to progress onto a six month paid placement. Placements are available in a variety of locations across Dorset including Blandford, Christchurch and Fleetsbridge and for a range of office-based and trade positions.
