Maar een van die letterlik kleurryke tonele aan die voet van dié berg is waarskynlik eweneens sinoniem met die stad: Adderleystraat se “beroemde” blommeverkopers. Tog word hulle al minder, hoewel hulle deel van Kaapstad se lewende geskiedenis is en letterlik tot die Moederstad se kleurryke lewe bygedra het en ’n toerismebaken is. Waar kom hulle vandaan, en belangrik, wat is hulle toekoms? Dié beskrywende artikel binne die paradigma van mikrogeskiedenis is sover bekend ’n eerste sosiaal-wetenskaplike verkenning van die geskiedenis van dié unieke groep Kapenaars, die oorsprong van die blommemark en sy kleurryke blommenalatenskap. Sleutelwoorde: Adderleystraat; blommemark; blommeverkopers; Kaapstad; kultuurgeskiedenis; snyblomme; toerisme; veldblomme. Cape Town is probably synonymous with Table Mountain. But one of the colourful scenes at the foot of the mountain may also be described as synonymous with the city: Adderley Street’s “famous” fl ower market. Yet, although the fl ower sellers are part of Cape Town’s living history, a beacon for tourists, and literally contributes to the Mother City’s vibrant and colourful life, they represent a dying breed. Where do they come from, and more importantly, what is their future? This descriptive article within the paradigm of microhistory is, thus far known, a fi rst social scientifi c exploration of the history of this unique group of Capetonians, the origins of the fl ower market, and its fl ower legacy. -

Apartheid Space and Identity in Post-Apartheid Cape Town: The Case of the Bo-Kaap DIANE GHIRARDO University of Southern California The Bo-Kaap district spreads out along the northeastern flanks of cheaper housing, they also standardized windows and doors and Signal Hill in the shadow of CapeTown's most significant topograplucal eliminated the decorative gables and parapets typical of hgher income feature, Table Mountain, and overlooks the city's business &strict. areas.7 While the some of the eighteenth century terraces exhibited Accordmg to contemporary hstorical constructions, the district includes typical Cape Dutch detads such as undulating parapets, two panel portals, four areas - Schotschekloof, Schoonekloof, Stadzicht and the Old and fixed upper sash and movable lower sash windows, the arrival of Malay Quarter, but none of these names appear on official maps (except the British at the end of the eighteenth century altered the style once Schotschekloof, which is the official name for the entire area).' The claim is in respect of Erf 12377, Cape Town, at Woodstock, 1 Act 22 of 1994, as amended. 2 also known as 3 Lever Street, Woodstock (“the subject property”).2 Mr Mahatey claimed that he was dispossessed of a right in land when the area of Woodstock was declared “Coloured” in terms of the Group Areas Act,3 and he was forced to sell the property to the Community Development Board (“the Board”) in December 1979 for a sum which did not constitute just and equitable compensation as contemplated in the Restitution Act.4 [2] Section 2 of the Restitution Act deals with entitlement to restitution and sets out the prerequisites for restitution as follows: “(1) A -
