This past week your Senior Class Officers attended a Prom A N S W E R E D preparation meeting with the planning team, which consist of some of your Principals , Senior sponsors, and fellow students. During this meeting we discussed all the exciting plans and details about on Senior Prom. Which include scenic decor to transform the perimeter of our football stadium into a truly enchanted venue, food trucks with a variety of different cuisines, professional photographers to capture candid memories all night long , fun and comfortable lounge seating areas, two separate dj's and dance areas , along with many other special surprises throughout the night. (August 2012) Jeremy Russell Miller, B.A., University of Arkansas; M.A., University of Arkansas Co-Chairs of Advisory Committee: Dr. Joshua Heuman Dr. Aisha Durham Transgender representations generally distance the transgender characters from the audience as objects of ridicule, fear, and sympathy. This distancing is accomplished through the use of specific narrative conventions and visual codes. In this dissertation, I analyze representations of transgender individuals in popular film comedies, thrillers, and independent dramas. Through a textual analysis of 24 films, I argue that the narrative conventions and visual codes of the films work to prevent identification or connection between the transgender characters and the audience. The purpose of this distancing is to privilege the heteronormative identities of the characters over their transgender identities. This dissertation is grounded in a cultural studies approach to representation as constitutive and constraining and a positional approach to gender that views gender identity as a position taken in a specific social context.

In the educational setting, female students are required to take additional steps to ensure that they are not disrupting the learning environment at school (Glickman, 2016). These additional steps are laid out in educational policies like dress codes, which state the dress code rules, the rationales for those dress code rules, and the sanctions attached to dress code violations.

The proms of today are lavish affairs that come complete with hotel ballrooms, live bands, glamorous clothing, and stretch limousines. As the first formal event in the life of a teenager, attendance at the prom is now popularly considered a vital rite of passage to adulthood. Yet, proms were not always so lavish, expensive, or widespread. At one point during their history, proms were actually quite simple affairs. Proms were first mentioned in the high school yearbooks of the 1930s and 1940s, but historians believe they may have existed as early as the late 1800s. Proms first began in the elite colleges of the Northeast, taking their cue from the debutante balls of the rich and well bred. Middle class parents admired the poise and composure of debutantes and their escorts and began to institute formal dances as a means of instilling social skills and etiquette in their children.

    Prom Dress Code ▪ All dresses worn to the dance must be photographed, while being worn and submitted via email to [email protected] – [email protected] – [email protected] -- [email protected] ▪ Dresses may be strapless (if they fit properly) or include spaghetti straps. ▪ Dresses may be backless, if they are not cut below the naval. ▪ Midriffs will not be exposed. This includes both front and side. ▪ Two-piece dresses must have solid fabric (not mesh) added to cover midriff. ▪ Dresses may not have a slit that exceeds mid-thigh. This is fingertip length. This also includes short dresses. ▪ The top of the dress bodice must be above the bust line. ▪ Undergarments should not be visible. See-through apparel is not permitted. ▪ Garments that are tight or low-cut are also unacceptable. ▪ Fabric inserts must be sewn, not pinned, on the dress if without the inserts the dress does not meet dress code. ▪ Cover-ups are permitted to cover a dress that does not meet expectations, if they are worn the entire night. ▪ Pictures taken at the dance must meet dress code. You may not alter a dress to take a picture. Gentlemen, you are expected to wear formal attire. Formal prom attire may be classified as a tuxedo or dress suit, including a tie or bow tie, a dress shirt, which may include a vest or cummerbund. Shirts are always to be worn. If you are bringing a date from another school, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to have your date follow LCA approval procedures, guest approval form must be submitted with the email.
