FISHING in REISA RIVER, (Nordreisa Municipality, Troms County, Norway
FISHING IN THE REISA RIVER 2004 (Nordreisa Municipality, Troms County, Norway) The Reisa River figures at the top in Norway regarding total catch of the exclusive Arctic Char, (about 1200 kg, with an average 0,75 kgs). Sea Trout: among the 10-15 best Norwegian rivers. The catches of salmon in Reisa were considerably reduced during 1990-ies, due to various reasons. That is why rather strict regulations of salmon fishing have been introduced, see below. Salmon catches are now increasing. Reisa River is one of the most spectacular river systems in the Nordic Countries, running from the Finnish Border to the Atlantic, having a runoff area of abot 2700 square km, being available for salmonides (and traditional narrow river boats!) until about 80 km from sea, close to the famous Imo waterfall. Another famous waterfall is the Mollis, 261 m. (River boat transport the rapid streaming river is to be ordered at the Elvebåtsenteret, 9151 Storslett). The valley bottom in the northern part of Reisa is undulating terraces with pine forests, with small clusters of farmland. Upstream is the mountain part of the National Park of Reisa, including Reisa National park, about 700 square kms. The region is famous for its arctic alpine vegetation, its varied animal life, geology, gorges and canyons as well as for its reindeer husbandry. The river rights to salmon fishery is owned and administered by the Reisa Elvelag (Reisa River Association). You get to Reisa by air to the city of Tromsoe (1 hour 45 min from Oslo) and hence by the corresponding Wideroe Air (20 min) to Soerkjosen Airport, Nordreisa, 5 km from river. -

Destination Norway
© Lonely Planet Publications 16 Destination Norway Norway is a country at a crossroads, although given Norway’s natural wonders and significant wealth, it’s a situation in which most countries in the world would love to find themselves. Norway is, by any standards, one of the most beautiful countries on earth, but that beauty brings with it a responsibility that weighs heavily upon Norwegians. For here is a people with an enduring love for the natural world that is profoundly etched into the national character. In the past, this was expressed in the Norwegian tradition of isolated farm- steads that colonised the most secluded corners of the country’s wilder- ness. Increasingly, however, the irrevocable movement of Norwegians towards the cities – cities that are themselves places of great beauty, such FAST FACTS as Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger and Tromsø – has altered the relation- Population: 4.7 million ship between Norwegians and their natural world.
Statistisk Sentralbyrå, Oslo, 13. mars 1978 Petter Jakob Bjerve PREFACE In connection with the Population and Housing Census 1970 an additional survey was carried out in pre-selected census tracts in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark. The purpose was to give information on persons with Lappish connection resident in the tracts. Figures are previously published in Weekly Bulletin of Statistics no. 16-17/76 and New District Figures no. 4/76 for Nordland, Troms and Finnmark. Central Bureau of Statistics asked the author for an analysis of the information from the additional survey. In this article he tries to mark the bounds of the Lappish population and to give a description based on demographic and social characteristics.
