País: Estados Unidos Dirección: Robert Wise y Jerome Robbins Guion: Ernest Lehman (libro: Arthur Laurents; y obra de teatro: Jerome Robbins) Música: Leonard Bernstein (letra: Stephen Sondheim) Fotografía: Daniel L. Fapp Reparto: Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, George Chakiris, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno, Simon Oakland, Ned Glass, William Bramley, Tucker Smith, Tony Mordente, David Winters, Eliot Feld, Bert Michaels, David Bean y Robert Banas. The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s month of April marks two substantial highlights to which we hope you have been looking forward all season—we certainly have! April begins with a performance that can only be described as “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” On the News Sentinel Pops Series, we present the highly anticipated Disney in Concert: Mary Poppins. For many of you, seeing Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke on the big screen again will be a trip down memory lane. For the younger members of your family, this might be their first time seeing this timeless classic. But for everybody: it will certainly be the first time experiences this film with a live symphony orchestra. Aram Demirjian Our April Masterworks is all about anthems, and if ever the classical music world had a singular anthem, it would be the ‘Ode to Joy’ from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, an optimistic statement about humanity from a composer who held progressive beliefs for his time about equality and human rights. With enduring poetic declarations including, “All men will become brothers” and “this kiss is for the entire world,” Beethoven puts forth his belief that there is space in this world for all of us, and that we need each other to survive. I am particularly proud to partner with the Knoxville Choral Society, plus two ensembles of young musicians making their debut on Masterworks: the Webb School of Knoxville Chamber Singers, and students from Tennessee School for the Deaf, who will be signing the ‘Ode’ along with the singers.
