Ordained a priest in 1920, he was eventually recruited for the Vatican diplomatic service. For thirty years he worked at the Vatican Secretariat of State. In 1954 he was named archbishop of , where he sought to win disaffected workers back to the . In 1958, Montini was the first of twenty-three cardinals named by Pope John XXIII, and helped in preparing Vatican II. Elected pope in and taking the name Paul VI, he immediately decided to continue the work of the Council which concluded on 8 . The previous day, Paul VI and Athenagoras revoked the that their predecessors had made in 1054. Paul VI increased the number of cardinals significantly, giving many countries their first cardinal. Hello all. I’m Father David Bailey. I will be your new Parochial Vicar and I’m super excited to have this opportunity to serve the there at St. Mary Magdalene. I recently graduated from Notre Dame in New Orleans and this will be my first parish assignment as a priest. Before that, I was in the U.S. Navy before going to work for Native Americans on reservations throughout the country. Before answering God’s call to enter seminary for the Diocese of Tyler, I spent several years in Ireland. Rumor has it Fr. Rowland is vaguely familiar with the place. I’m looking forward to serving as his apprentice and I can’t wait to get to know each and every one of you as we journey together along the path to holiness. God bless you all!

Catechist Training Seminars Catechist Training Seminars are being scheduled around the Diocese of Tyler for the rest of this year as part of a renewed effort to launch catechist certification again. Marriage Formation Coordinator Training The Family Life Office is offering Marriage Formation Coordinator Training in the diocese to help parishes establish the marriage formation program for engaged and civilly married couples. These training sessions are for anyone involved in marriage formation ministry and will cover the Witness to Love mentor couple program, best practices for implementing marriage formation at the parish, how to use the PREPARE-ENRICH couple assessment, and much more. The next training session will be held at St. Therese parish in Canton on June 18, 2021, from 6-8 pm in Spanish, and on June 19, 2021, from 10:00, am-12 pm in English.
