I came up with the idea for the almanac back in 2004, the original idea was to have a yearly one on Explosive Pro Wrestling, but that idea fell by the wayside. The idea for the almanac returned in 2009, when I started Westside Pro Wrestling and was trying to do some research on the history of Pro Wrestling in Perth and pretty much came up with very little pre-Explosive Coastal Wrestling. I have included as much history on the scene as I could, hopefully there may be some information you find interesting, and maybe some you never knew about. This project has been a huge undertaking and wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the West Australian Pro Wrestling community from the promotions, to the talent, to the photographers I would like to give special thanks to Explosive Pro Wrestling, New Horizon Pro Wrestling, Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance, Amanda, Jarod, Jenna, Liam, ShaunSean Promotions, Thomas and all the talent local, interstate and international who helped me out with their stats. I hope you enjoy the almanac and don’t forget to ALWAYS support your local product. While boasting fans in several countries from across the globe, today, professional wrestling maintains a lasting presence in five territories - USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan and Mexico. ‘Culturally embedded spectacle’ is the unique conceptual framework developed for this paper to explain the longevity of professional wrestling in these five locations and includes the following factors: a continuous history of professional wrestling, national television exposure during the Old School era highlighting larger-than-life characters playing the face, an extensive group of independent professional wrestling federations and commemorative cultural experiences for young and old fans. 2 Granted, there may be other aspects not included here.

Special thanks to my brother John for all the positive vibes, and to Joy who was there for me during some very dark days.

WEBISODE #1: DEEP FRIENDLY GOODNESS [1] WELCOME TO RPS FADE IN: TAGLINE: 2 HOURS UNTIL THE SHOW INT. WRESTLING ARENA. A split-screen shot shows the two main event stars arriving at the arena. DERRICK LA’BELL on the left, MARIANO FERNANDEZ on the right. The stark contrast between them is LA’BELL arrives like an MMA star with an entourage, dressed in quality sports brand, whereas FERNANDEZ arrives like a veteran wrestler. Solo, a bag over his back, dressed in civilian attire. They walk down their respective hallway poised as the central figure of their shot. People they pass turn their heads recognizing them almost immediately as celebrities. A subtle jazz background music is played while they walk down the hallways and enter their respective locker room. - In Fernandez’s room he drops off his bag and sits down. Over his shoulder, the shot reveals him to be on his phone and navigating Twitter. - In Derrick’s room, his entourage drops his bag, one individual begins answering a phone. La’Bell quick changes his standard black shirt to a shirt with the RPS logo on. DERRICK LA’BELL: How’s it look? One of Derrick’s entourage looks up from his phone. Immediately he half-smiles and nods slowly and approvingly. BEN HUANG: Makes you like the G.O.A.T, Beast. JAMES STOKES: And that’s free, Beast. Another member of the entourage adds. Charismatic, shorter than BEN. The camera follows La’Bell walking out of the room and THE BEAST walks over to the poster featuring himself and Mariano.
