The Centenary Connection April 2020 The Centenary Connection June 2021 1 Casey’s Corner Sunday Worship Update • In-person worship is at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 a.m. • Live-streamed worship is at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m., on our website (centenaryumc.com/sermons) or YouTube channel (search “Granville Centenary”). • The 8:00 and 11:00 services are traditional, and the 9:30 service contemporary. • Nursery care and Sunday school for children and youth are offered at 9:30 and 11:00. Children and youth go directly to their Sunday school classes. • The pews are no longer restricted, and masks are not required in the building. • Unvaccinated people and those at high risk are encouraged (but not required) to continue to wear masks. There will be no judgment in word or stare for mask-wearing choices. • Be aware that people have different comfort levels regarding physical distance, shaking hands, etc. Before you sit next to someone or shake a hand, ask. Then kindly respect the answer. • If you have a fever or feel ill in any way, please worship with us online. We don’t want to pass around a cold, the flu, COVID, or anything else! Communion in June We will celebrate Holy Communion on Sunday, June 6, in all worship services. Breakthrough and Concealment: The Formulaic Dynamics of Character Behavior in Lucan Howard Chen Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2012 © 2012 Howard Chen All rights reserved ABSTRACT Breakthrough and Concealment: The Formulaic Dynamics of Character Behavior in Lucan Howard Chen This dissertation analyzes the three main protagonists of Lucan’s Bellum Civile through their attempts to utilize, resist, or match a pattern of action which I call the “formula.” Most evident in Caesar, the formula is a cycle of alternating states of energy that allows him to gain a decisive edge over his opponents by granting him the ability of perpetual regeneration. However, a similar dynamic is also found in rivers, which thus prove to be formidable adversaries of Caesar in their own right. Although neither Pompey nor Cato is able to draw on the Caesarian formula successfully, Lucan eventually associates them with the river-derived variant, thus granting them a measure of resistance (if only in the non-physical realm). By tracing the development of the formula throughout the epic, the dissertation provides a deeper understanding of the importance of natural forces in Lucan’s poem as well as the presence of an underlying drive that unites its fractured world. Telecommunications Provider Locator This report lists the contact information and the types of services sold by 5,364 telecommunications providers. The last report was released November 27, 2001.1 All information in this report is drawn from providers’ April 1, 2002, filing of the Telecommunications Reporting Worksheet (FCC Form 499-A).2 This report can be used by customers to identify and locate telecommunications providers, by telecommunications providers to identify and locate others in the industry, and by equipment vendors to identify potential customers. Virtually all providers of telecommunications must file FCC Form 499-A each year.3 These forms are not filed with the FCC but rather with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), which serves as the data collection agent. Information from filings received after November 22, 2002, and from filings that were incomplete has been excluded from the tables. Although many telecommunications providers offer an extensive menu of services, each filer is asked on Line 105 of FCC Form 499-A to select the single category that best describes its telecommunications business.
