The prize also includes an additional $250 for the purchase of poetry books by KEC’s library. Friday 23 April 2021 9 students win $25K in prizes at 2021 Poetry In Voice finals Source: CBC Books High school students Thierney Dignadice, Sarah Hamdi and Romy Magdalena Pueyo all earned first place honours in the 2021 Poetry in Voice national poetry recitation competition. Poetry in Voice challenges students in Grades 9-12 to learn two to three poems by heart and perform them in front of an audience. They can compete in English, French or a bilingual category. A prize of $25,000 is given out to the winners across the three categories. Students are tasked with selecting two or three poems from a list and then memorize and perform those poems. The final competition will be broadcast live online on April 22, 2021 on the Poetry in Voice website. The finals will be hosted by former CBC Radio personality Johanne Blais. Forty-two students in grades 9 to 12 — including students from Toronto and the GTA — were chosen from thousands of students from 1,400 schools across the country to compete in the semifinals of the annual Poetry In Voice competition.
